It’s Drag Race Mexico time again!
I’ve really enjoyed that past two episodes of this franchise and from the looks of the teaser for this new episode I feel like I’m going to enjoy this one as well. But let’s see! After all, World of Wonder has got the art of the teaser perfected now.
On with the episode!
We’re back once again to the honestly stunning Werk Room for Drag Race Mexico and can I just say I am so jealous of it? I want it for Drag Race Philippines. Doesn’t even have to be that big, just make the Werk Room a little larger so the Filipino queens aren’t squished.
Miss Vallarta makes history as Drag Race Mexico‘s Porkchop, and shady as it is to say it, but I kinda expected it to happen with that entrance look. The queens read her mirror message and give her her props before de-dragging, with one of them commenting that those who think drag doesn’t hurt should watch this. I believe them! I wore hells way way back and they weren’t even as high as the heels some of these queens wear and my feet hurt.
The next day, Serena Morena is in her feelings and declares that Vermelha Noir and Miss Vallarta should have been the ones in the bottom. However, Cristian Peralta says in the confessionals that she thinks Serena needs to learn so much more. Are they setting the stage for a rivalry? We’ll see!
Vermelha Noir also gets her licks in, saying that she knew how to sell it and had more elements to her costume, so there. Serena says while she won the lipsync, Vermelha should have been the one doing it in the first place. Argennis shuts them both up by saying that she won and both their outfits were ugly anway. The shade.
Before it escalates any further, the queens get their…RuMail? ValentinaMail? LolitaMail? And I gotta say, Valentina and Lolita have this good cop-bad cop dynamic going that I really like. I really have to check out Drag Race Thailand because they’re really the first ones to have two hosts.
Valentina enters the Werk Room and tells the queens they have to pair up, and I am gagged at how Serena Morena literally moves away from Vermelha Noir when Vermelha goes over to partner with her. At one pount Serena even pushes her towards Argennis. The drama.
The mini challenge is eating as many tacos as they can in 90 seconds and oh god I hope nobody vomits I can’t handle vomiting. Like exaggerated movie vomiting I am fine with but actual vomiting just makes me want to vomit too.
I didn’t use to feel this way, but in my old age I’ve become more sensitive? I’ve only started feeling this last year but I can’t look at people stuffing thier face with food. Not in a metaphorical sense but a literal sense, which is what the queens are doing. I couldn’t look. Which shouldn’t be taken against the show, it’s my own personal issue. And it’s an issue for other people as well watch out for it when you watch the episode.
Vermelha Noir and Regina Voce win the mini challenge and in the confessional Vermelha Noir puts her fist in her mouth and I can’t.
AMYWAY. We move on to the Maxi challenge and the queens have to pick from five businesses — a funeral home, a travel agency, a nail salon, a mechanic shop, and a taco stand — and make a commercial for it. Vermelha and Regina pick the taco stand, Matraka and Pixie pick the funeral home, Argennis and Cristian pick the travel agency, Serena Morena and Lady Kero pick the mechanic shop so Margaret Y Ya and Gala Varo are left with the nail salon.
Margaret and Gala are feeling pretty miffed, since they already said that they want the travel agency but Argennis and Cristian picked it anyway, so this will either end up with Argennis and Cristian in the bottom or Margaret and Gala in the bottom.
They start shooting the commercials and Vermelha chokes (metaphorically), forgetting her lines, and apparently messing up the pronunciation. I speak minimal Spanish so I am trusting Valentina and Lolita on this one!
Pixie and Matraka fare better, even if Lolita does point out that Pixie’s acting is a little off. But what really caught my eye was one of the Pit Crew’s bad acting. The stiffness, I can’t.
For the mechanic shop, both Lady Kero and Serena Moreno ends up flubbing their lines. The editing even focuses on Valentina and Lolita making faces throughout the shoot and good golly you’re in danger, girls.
Cristian and Argennis’ travel agency shoot is hilarious, but there’s seems to be a little tension between the two because Cristian has a lot more experience and isn’t afraid to wield it.
Finally, it’s Margaret and Gala’s turn to shoot their commercial and…well it was something!
This episode’s emotional moment right before the runway is about found family. Vermelha shares how her grandmother told her point blank that she doesn’t want him to be gay, which made him first come out as bisexual before eventually coming out as gay later down the line. And oh boy does that story resonate for a lot of guys of a certain age ha ha ha! Vermelha’s story has a happy ending, because his family eventually embraces her being a drag queen and even takes photos of her in drag.
Gala, on the other hand, has a different story. Her mother doesn’t know, and she shares that all she wants is that they be proud of what she does when they do find out. Gala’s mother still thinks that Gala works at a university, and Gala is just holding on to the hope that her mother will be happy for her…eventually.
The theme of this episode’s runway is Night of a Thousand Maria Felix and to be quite honest I had to Wikipedia her! But this is what I love about the international franchise — I get to learn about their culture! Maria Felix was known as La Doña, and anyone who knows even just a lick of Spanish knows the connotation of that title and knows why the gays would love her.
At the time of me writing this vlog, none of the queens have posted their runways yet, so you’ll just have to trust me when I say that Cristian Peralta really shook things up for her because she didn’t go with her usual mug and went a little Vermelha Noir. I’m not mad at it!
I also loved Vermelha Noir’s lavender fantasy and Matraka’s look that had a quote that I assume is from one of Maria Felix’s movies.
We finally get to the advertisements — which I couldn’t find a clip off on YouTube — and the travel agency commercial my golly I was S C R E A M I N G. Cristian and Argennis didn’t have any trouble going there and I laughed. And I was right! Valentina ended up loving the change Crisitan did with her mug.
Special guest Danna Paola — of Elite fame — is a bitch and I love it. The casual way that she decimated Gala and Margaret’s commercial? Art. But other than Gala and Margaret, the rest of the queens got pretty good critiques. And did I not say earlier on that Margaret and Gala had a big chance of being in the bottom?
Regina Voce and Cristian Peralta end up the top two, and when Regina is announced as the winner Cristian pulls this JAN face and if the gays in Mexico do not meme this to death I will be very, very disappointed.
Vermelha Noir and Serena Morena end up in the bottom, which really should have been obvious to me since they were being pitted against each other since the start of the episode. And my god the lip sync is…well I feel bad that Danna Paola had to see this done to her song. But at least this time around someone gets sent home!
