Ron Watches Drag Race Mexico Episode 4

It’s here, it’s here! The new episode of Drag Race Mexico is finally here, and I can’t wait to see how this turns out as they teased the reading challenge and a Rusical in last week’s teaser.

Aside from those two challenges, I hope that the Lipsync for your Life finally picks up steam because quite honestly, last episode’s lipsync was…not it, to put it kindly.

The queens, at least, are getting the hang of saying goodbye to their competitors, the most recent of which being Vermelha Noir. The queens are also beginning to size each other up, with Argennis pegging Regina Voce as someone who keeps her claws hidden until it’s necessary to bring them out.

The next day, Margaret Y Ya calls out Cristian Peralta, Gala Varo, and Regina Voce in her confessional, saying that trio already think of themselves as the eventual finalists of the show. And while that admittedly is kinda self-centered for the trio to think, it only sounds like bitterness when it’s coming from Margaret, who has been in the bottom a few times already.

In a conversation that may either have been prodded by production or completely organic, the girls talk about dancing and whoever has actual training in it, and wouldn’t you know it Pixie Pixie is not a trained dancer. Considering that this is the Rusical episode, all I have to say is you’re in danger, Pixie!

Lolita arrives in boy drag and I gotta say I really love how they’ve been styling Lolita and Valentina over the episodes. Whoever decided that Lolita be in boy clothes and Valentina in girl clothes needs to be commended. Not an actual raise because honestly it’s just respecting the two’s gender expression but you guys get what I mean.

Lolita announces that today’s mini-challenge is the reading challenge, and Margaret in particular is giddy about it. Once again, if we go by production cues in previous iterations of Drag Race, this means Margaret is going to have a great episode or she will be sashaying away shortly.

And you know what, it may really be Margaret’s time to shine because I hollered when she called Cristian as an old, plastic surgery queen using a sea turtle as a metaphor. The shade of it all. AND THEN, she called Argennis Cristians bitch.

In fact, Argennis gets a lot of reads thrown at him for being a “lap dog” and according to Serena Morena, it may have actually hurt Argennis’ feelings. I would be very interested to see what was happening that wasn’t aired. Even Crisitan joined in with the reading! Argennis is making things worse because she can’t read. As in read the girls, I’m not saying she’s illiterate.

Meanwhile, Matraka makes a reference to Pixie Pixie’s dick pic, which was referenced in episode 1, and somebody has got to post a link to that or something. Can’t somebody post a link in the comments? I know there are people reading this blog! Like three of your or something!

Gala Varo finishes the reading challenge off by telling Valentina and Lolita Banana how they feel about a Mexican finally winning Drag Race and I gasped. You in danger, girl.

Margaret wins the challenge, which isn’t a surprise because she was the only queen that had more than one read shown. I am guessing that she gets the chance to assign the roles during the Rusical. And…Margaret doesn’t get to assign roles. But she does win P18,000!

The role-picking gets tense, with conflict happening between Lady Kero and Matraka, and the argument actually makes me want to see some of the footage that got edited out. Lady Kero claims in the confessional that the other queens have been giving concessions to Matraka, and to be honest I have not been seeing that! Or maybe the translation is just bad!

Another popular part is that of the queen, with Regina and Crisitan competing for it. Regina wins out in the end, with Cristian seemingly unhappily settling for the role of the great Matryoshka. Will she regret this in the end? We shall see!

Lady Kero ends the argument with Matraka by picking a role different from the one they were arguing about, and she, Margaret, and Pixie Pixie end up being a trio of gargoyles. You might just April Carrion yourself here, Lady Kero.

Argennis is the main focus of this little role-picking though, as it turns out that she was really, really affected by the reading challenge. She shares that back in her city and at her place of work, she is already not liked and it hurts to have her competitors say the same thing. At this point I have to really question the translations because none of the queens said that they disliked her. They just read her for being Cristian’s lackey but that doesn’t necessarily mean dislike. Unless the translations I’m seeing are not telling everything.

Rehearsals finally start and good golly Pixie really can’t dance. She so cannot dance that it’s basically tbe only thing they showed from the rehearsal. YOU’RE IN DANGER GIRL

The musical is Dragapulco Shore, which I am assuming is a parody of a Jersey Shore offshoot set in Acapulco. I have watched neither show, but I did watch a bit of Geordie Shore season 1 and shows like that are ripe for a Rusical skewering.

And to be perfectly honest, the Rusical was great! Of course, there’s the caveat that I am not a professional critic and can’t hold a note to save my life, but let’s be honest here, none of the Rusicals have ever been contenders for a Tony award. But if they brought this performance to the actual Lipsync for your Life then everything would be so much better.

Now we head to the Main Stage for the runway, which is gold-themed this episode. I really would have loved to include Instagram photos of the queens’ looks, but it seems like I am posting these things way too early? Because almost all of the queens have no photos of their looks, but they do have photos of their looks from the previous episode. I can’t screencap from the Wowpresents+ site either.

ANYWAYS. Cristian Peralta is a stunner once again with a Quetzalcoatl-inspired outfit that even involved facial prosthetics and fangs. Absolutely brilliant. Matraka, dressed as the sun, is also a treat for the eyes. Margaret Y Ya also delivers, so I am guessing she is at least safe in this episode.

Pixie Pixie comes out in a Virgin Mary outfit that transforms into Jesus drag and if you’re living in the same country that I am you’ll know that Jesus drag has just recently hit mainstream news and is very, very controversial. Pixie Pixie would not have been able to do that here!

Honestly, all of the queens brought it to the runway this week, so I am interested to see who gets the negative critiques. This might be a close episode where both the Rusical and the runway matters!

Matraka, Lady Kero, and Margaret are safe (WHAT DID I SAY!), while Cristian Peralta, Serena Morena, Pixie Pixie, Argennis, Regina Voce, and Gal Varo are the tops and bottoms. Pixie, love, I really think you’re in danger here.

Cristian Peralta ends up winning this week, making her the first one of the queens to win more than one challenge. Cristian must be feeling really good about this since she had to give away the role she actually wanted. It’s giving Lady Camden winning the Rusical during her season, to be quite honest!

Pixie Pixie end up the bottom two, a fact that the show telegraphed really well throughout the episode. From the confessionals, you get the feeling that Argennis is throwing in the towel. BUT! Turns out it was just her faking it because Argennis finally delivers a lip sync that stands out from the rest of the ones that had been shown this season. Not a high bar to pass, but hey! Any improvement is good!
