Ron Watches Drag Race Mexico Episode 5

It’s Thursday once again, which means there’s another new episode of Drag Race Mexico! With Argennis finally delivering a lip sync that was actually worth writing home about, will this mean a marked improvement in all the queens’ performances? Or will the Lipsync for your Lifes of this season continue to be…whelming?

Let’s watch the new episode and find out!

Looks like a target is firmly on Cristian Peralta’s back as they come back from the Main Stage, and to be quite honest it wasn’t at all surprising. She’s the first of the queens to win two challenges, after all, so of course all eyes are on her.

Cristian tries to defuse it by saying that the judges deciding she should win last week’s challenge was a surprise to her, but Margaret Y Ya declares in her confessional that the only direction Cristian can go now is down. Foreshadowing? Perhaps!

The girls descend on Argennis the next day, asking her what happened. She says that maybe she was overconfident, to which Serena responds with an admonition to Argennis to practice even if people love her. Argennis, having just been the butt of multiple reads last week, volleys back by saying Serena should practice too because she’s going home this week. The shade of it all.

Before Serena can volley back, Valentin enters the workroom looking gorgeous. She says that today’s mini challenge is about who has the pointiest tip, Gala Varo says that person already left, which just makes me even more curious about Pixie Pixie’s dick pic. What does it look like?

Alas, the mini challenge wasn’t about dicks but about yassifying a pair of cowboy boots. They then have to perform in those boots and…these group of queens aren’t performance queens I guess? Like…not even a loaf of bread?

Argennis and Matraka end up winning the mini challenge, which…fair. They were the only ones who seemed to be doing something on the dance floor at least. Since the episode’s Mxi challenge is girl bands, it’s safe to assume that Argennis and Matraka are going to be the team leads.

I do like that these two queens get to pick the teams because they haven’t gotten much focus over the past few episodes — aside from Argennis’ bottom placement — and this could be their moment. Argennis even manages to throw a read at Cristian Peralta after the girls basically ganged up on her about her interactions with Cristian in last week’s reading challenge.

Serena Morena is the last one picked, and considering her performance in the past few episodes, this is basically the episode telling us she’s going home this week. Or at the very least, will be in the bottom again.

Matraka’s group — the Meximamis — are up first to record and the editing doesn’t really give us any idea what the final product is going to turn out to be. In the confessionals they’re very complimentary of each other but then again they’re teammates, so….

Meanwhile, Argennis’ group is called Las Palanquetas and the recording really sets Gala Varo up for yet another bottom placement. OR a story of triumph. Depends, really!

The next day, Serena says she feels with the girls after several bottom placements, and honestly that’s just the nail in your coffin girl. I am betting that she’s the one going home this episode.

BUT, let’s forget about that inevitability for now because apparently it’s Matraka’s birthday! She gets cake and a song, as well as an opportunity to talk about her childhood. Not only was she bullied in school, she also said that her parents weren’t exactly the best and that she had to be the parent most of the time. It was during this time that her desire to become a star started, just as a way to escape from her reality at the time.

The Maxi Challenge finally starts, and one of the judges on the panel is Alejandra Bogue. I didn’t know who she was initially, but upon Googling it turns out she’s a pretty successful trans actress in Mexico. How cool!

Las Palanquetas are up first, and I am so sorry but I was distracted constantly by Gala Varo’s meaty tuck. Did she even tuck??? Also distracting: Lady Kero’s fake titties that were an entirely different color than the rest of her body. I’m not the one to ask somebody to cover up but she really should have covered up. You could still do the big titty joke even without cleavage showing!

Las Meximamis are definitely the ones taking the win here, what with Regina Voce even hitting high notes. They also were just a lot more watchable overall compared to Las Palanquetas and Gala Varo’s meaty tuck.

This week’s runway theme is Mexican flowers, and Gala Varo’s Midsommar-inspired outfit caught my eye, as well as Matraka’s homage to mexican shamans. Serena Morena’s lily though…not wonderful at all. It’s first time in drag levels, at least for me.

Regina and Cristian are safe, and I agree with Regina’s bafflement because she at least should have been at the top. But at least you both get to go to the next episode and it also humanizes you to the audience. Because honestly, as a viewer, I am turned off with a contestant when it is so obviously telegraphed that they’re going to win the whole season.

Meanwhile, the remaining queens all get mixed critiques, which makes it hard to figure out who’s going to be the winner and who’s going to lip sync, although I do have my money on one of the bottom girls being Serena. I really did not like that outfit even though the judges complimented her about it.

Gala and her meaty tuck win the challenge and…okay. And then they announce that Matraka is also a winner and YAY! The editors then edit in a confessional of Gala saying Matraka only won because it’s her birthday because her outfit wasn’t even flower-inspired and I am S C R E A M I N G. They also include a confessional from Regina Voce saying Matraka isn’t a threat but Gala Varo is and I can’t help but think that maybe Matraka is getting that Jinkx Monsoon edit. And that edit is never a bad thing.

Argennis and Serena Morena are the bottom two and did I not Serena’s bottom placement? Serena says it is her third lip sync and GIRL. Pack your bags. Argennis delivers another good lip sync and at this point I feel like they keep sending her to the bottom because the lip syncs have been so lackluster.

Snatch game next week!
