So! This week we have a shake-up in the line-up as Cookie Kunty departs and Piche takes her place after last episode‘s lip sync. I am assuming this episode is the penultimate one, so we’re going to see a top four, finally.
Let’s watch the episode and find out!
The queens return to the Werk Room after Cookie’s departure and I am immediately “Oh!” when Sara Forever says Cookie didn’t deserve to be sent home that way. Drama.
To be fair to the girls, they tell all of this to Piche face-to-face. The “original” five went through a lot together that Piche didn’t have to go through, so it’s just natural for them to feel a little miffed at the fact that Cookie had to go. AND the queens also admit that if they had the same chance that Piche was given, they would have done their utmost best to get back in as well. So all is well, I guess?
There isn’t much in the way of niceties when it comes to the Nicky Mail, as she flat out states that she’s just looking for four queens for the final. But before we head to the Maxi challenge — whatever it is — the queens have to first perform well in the mini challenge, which is the show’s own version of The Weakest Link. I haven’t seen the French version but I’ve seen the American one!
And you know what this mini challenge is actually something I can understand! Mami Watta celebrating after winning this challenge was also hilarious. Now will she get a benefit from this? I dunno just yet!
Once they’re back in the Werk Room, Nicky tells them that this week’s Maxi challenge is the makeover! And you know who they’re transforming? Rugby players.
It looks like Mami did well winning that mini challenge because she gets to assign the players to the queens. And Mami plays ~fair~ and assigns the queens the players that would work best with them. I’m sorry but in the world of Drag Race that almost always means you’re going to be sent home. This show does not reward selflessness.
At first I thought that the rugby players would be gay since they had the rainbow socks and all but it turns out that the player Mami chose for herself is straight and discovered the show through his wife! Gotta say, it’s refreshing to see him being so open and receptive to the whole thing!
Sara Forever’s rugby player is also straight and wants to show his two sons how to be accepting of all kinds of people, which is really great! This whole episode kind of reminds me of the open-minded jocks of the makeover episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season three!
It’s really nice that the rugby players who are already dads are doing this to show their children that they can “be somebody else without losing themselves”, as one of the players put it. It also gives Piche an opportunity to share his own story about his father, who threw him out of the family when he was outed at 13 by his then boyfriend.
Some of the guys get to see their faces made up and…I’m sorry but Sara’s and Mami’s were woofs and not in a good way. Mami’s guy was a brick. Punani’s looks like a clown but that’s her aesthetic, so to speak. Piche’s rugby guy, on the other hand, looks great. But then again these are unfinished looks and I may just be missing the full picture. I sure hope I am missing the full picture.
Actually you know what once they’re actually in full-on drag the looks aren’t that bad! Mami Watta’s rugby player looks sexy even! Same thing with Keiona’s rugby player. I was a little meh when she first showed him his mug but now that the wigs and everything are on she looks okay! And Sara Forever was referencing Patsy and Edina from Absolutely Fabulous and I can see it! I really should trust the process.
Based on the critiques, it looks like Sara Forever is taking another win — her fourth! — and Punani, Piche, and Mami Watta are going to be in the bottom. And I’m right! Sara Forever gets her fourth win! I am surprised that her partner doesn’t get the same prize she does. I’ve gotten so used to the makeover partners getting the same prize as the queens so I was a little let down.
Piche and Punani are in the bottom and at this point I have to say goodbye to Punani because you aren’t outdancing Piche. Unless of course the song is a slow one this time around. And you know what it is a slow song. I honestly couldn’t decide which one was the better queen, but Nicky settles that questions by picking Punani. We have our final four! AND. They’re going to be taking part in a LIVE finale. My gosh has that been done before?
