Ron Watches My Lovely Liar Episode 2

Apparently, the show’s seventh episode released just yesterday? Recently? Either way, I have a lot of catching up to do. I’m trying to pace myself in a way where this doesn’t feel like an obligation, but I don’t want for the series to literally end and I’m not even halfway through it.

So here we are now with the second episode of My Lovely Liar. Let’s dive in!

We were left with a cliffhanger in the previous episode, with the members of the shop owners association ready to unmask Do Ha until Sol Hee stepped in to stop it. Sol Hee says her signature line “If I say so, then it is”, which prompts the production to take us back on 2018 when the two of them are on that bus ride to Seoul.

They give us this sweet moment which trust me no one will do for you in a bus but if someone as hot as Minhyun did that to me I would fold immediately.

Anyways, we go back to the “present” and the shop owners are asking Sol Hee how she can prove that Do Ha isn’t the pervert. Sol Hee’s assistant steps in and says that Do Ha doesn’t smell like her attacker because she had accidentally sprayed her perfume on her attacker instead of pepper spray. The shop owners literally sniff out the attacker and immediately resolves this subplot. I thought it would be a season-long thing!

Do Ha is a little miffed that Sol Hee doesn’t remember him, which makes me wanna tell him that dude…her meeting you five years ago was hardly the high point of her life. With her skills and the people she meets, you were probably the least interesting person she’s met. But then again, this is a K-drama and Sol Hee may have some shining recollection of him that will be revealed further on.

And in true K-dram fashion, Sol Hee and Do Ha are living right next to each other, with neither one of them knowing about it. Sol Hee is also a Manchester United fan, which is going to play a part in the story because this whole thing started off with the 2018 World Cup being part of the story.

Do Ha’s current apartment is a far cry from his previous accommodations, and when the lone light turns off he ends up finding the imprint of a girl on the wall of his apartment, like one of those stains from a water leak. Is his mind playing tricks on him or is this going to be a season-long thing? Or is it going to be just for the episode?

The next day Do Ha wakes up to an idyllic scene and it’s lit so well that I immediately suspect it of being a dream sequence. But the scene ends and nothing happens so I guess Do Ha actually found a nice escape from the anxiety that being a famous but mysterious songwriter brought him!

Sol Hee, on the other hand, is hiking up a mountain with her “mother”, and what I can guess from the dialogue is that the two of them are going to look at a plot of land. They encounter a deer along the way, which provides a nice opportunity for a product placement for a product I can’t actually identify? Seems like it’s cat food? There’s an illustration of a cat on the packaging, at least. Either way, it was just a real estate agent trying to con Sol Hee’s “mother”. It’s another one of her clients!

We then have a scene of Sol Hee at the bank, where it looks like she’s using the money she earns to buy gold bars? I don’t know if that’s a smart way to invest but then again I am a poor person in a developing country so what do I know? But before she can fully enjoy that new addition to her gold haul, she gets a notification on what I assume is her credit card bill and she has to head on over to her mother to resolve it. Her mother, in typical K-drama fashion, is a con woman and holds the hardships she has gone through — such as going to jail — over Sol Hee’s head. It’s an Asian thing!

Over at the idol industry side of things, Syaon still hasn’t realized she isn’t the female lead and continues to insist that Do Ha wants her, he just doesn’t know it yet. Girl, you’re just setting yourself up for heartbreak.

Do Ha, meanwhile, has taken to his new location like a fish to water and is even playing in jazz clubs now. Obviously, he gets the ladies all hot and bothered, with one particular lady shooting her shot. She takes off the sunglasses he’s wearing without his consent and I don’t know if it’s meant to be hilarious but he pulls another pair from his coat and faces her wearing it. That said, ladies and gentlemen, don’t take stuff off of people without their consent!

Back at home, Do Ha gets woken up by the football match Sol Hee is watching. Sol Hee also finds out that the two of them are neighbors after they both pick up their food delivery. And then it turns out that the food delivery person mixed up their orders, so they have to switch and Sol Hee finds out he’s a Liverpool fan, which is one of Manchester United’s rivals. And as someone who knows a number of football fans, snap judgments are always made depending on the team you support.

We then get a montage of Do Ha and Sol Hee reacting to the football match and I am not gonna lie, it is so stinking cute. The next day, when Do Ha’s stuff starts being moved in, he tells his company CEO that he’s sleeping better in this new place, which of course is the mark of not just any K-drama but any “rich boy moving to a humbler location” story.

After being blackmailed by a senior songwriter, Do Ha’s CEO visits him at his new apartment — which looks considerably larget compared to Sol Hee’s but let’s not worry about that — along with several bags of product placement almonds. He pleads with Do Ha to please meet this songwriter so he doesn’t get blackmailed, and he eventually agrees since this is just a one-time thing. Do Ha does ask the CEO to take his Maserati MC20 because it stands out too much, which Sol Hee witnesses.

On the elevator back up to their units, Sol Hee asks Do Ha if he’s running away from creditors, since she did say his car get taken away. He tells the truth and Sol Hee knows that it’s the truth because…well, she’s the Liar Hunter.

Do Ha then gets summoned back to…his province, I guess? By his mom, who looks to be a politician. She asked for Syaon tickets from him to gain some points from the chairman and asks if he and Syaon actually are an item. He denies it, and when his mother suggests the two of them having dinner alone he provokes her by asking if she thinks that he’s going to kill her too. So did Do Ha really murder his ex?

But we’ll have to think about that another time because Sol Hee’s next client is the senior songwriter that blackmailed the CEO to get him a meeting with Do Ha. Its not revealed what exactly he wants to know about Do Ha, but it can’t be good.

We then travel all the way back to Do Ha’s hometown, which I am assuming is Busan just basing on the accent of the character that was just apprehended by the policeman. It’s the brother of Do Ha’s ex, and he’s still insisting that it’s Do Ha who killed his sister. Now I understand that it’s hard to deal with the possible death of a loved one, but the show has so clearly established Do Ha’s innocence (partial? He could still be involved in her death somehow) that it’s hard to sympathize with him. You wouldn’t even listen to his side five years ago! The scene also tells us what Do Ha’s real name is, which is Kim Seung Ju.

And I know this scene was meant to show that Do Ha is Seung Ju because one of the police officers said that the brother stabbed the suspect in the back but my mind blanked out instead and went “Naked???”

Anyways, the dinner happens and the senior songwriter tries to get Do Ha drunk and get some dirt on him using Sol Hee but alas, he answers all of the questions truthfully and even inadvertently exposes the songwriter as a plagiarist. Do Ha manages to leave the meeting uncompromised, but because he’s a little tipsy, he calls for a driver but gives his old luxury accommodation address.

Sol Hee’s driver/bodyguard, who’s a big Syaon fan, figures out that Do Ha was part of the job she was on and tails him back to his home with Sol Hee in tow. Sol Hee manages to stop him before he does something stupid and drives herself home instead, where she finds a drunk Do Ha in the parking lot. What happened to his car then? But we’ll think about that later because Sol Hee has begun putting the pieces together and sort of figures out that her next door neighboor might just be the mysterious Kim Do Ha. She takes off his mask to finally see his face and as she starts to put it back on Do Ha wakes up and we get that lovely K-drama two-shot of their faces.

What will happen in the next episode? We shall see!
