We’re finally at the home stretch! The queens have been trimmed down to the final four, and this episode could possibly be the penultimate one. That is if Drag Race Mexico doesn’t pull off even more shenanigans.
Let’s go!
The ladies come back to the Werk Room after Lady Kero’s elimination, and the hot topic is whether next week is going to be the final episode or the semifinal. Cristian Peralta also talks about how she may have the most wins of the top four but that doesn’t mean her place is already assured. Gala Varo, on the other hand, is looking to eliminate one more queen before the final, and that queen is Matraka. Is this the drama?
Well, whoever’s going to be doing the lip syncs in this episode are going to be determind by the Maxi challenge, which is the makeover. There’s an additional beauty queen theme on top of that, and among the four queens it seems like Regina is the most confident. Is this going to end up well for her or will production take this as a signal to kick her out? We shall see!
The queens are assigned their makeover subject via luck of the draw — which I prefer, to be honest — and my eyebrow does rise up a little when Cristian Peralta says she has Korean features. Okay. But Cristian has bigger problems than that right now because her drag daughter says he can’t shave his beard because of his job and I am a little curious at what job could it be that prohibits shaving?
The other queens seems to have better luck with the people assigned to them, since Regina Voce’s drag daughter is okay with his beard being shaved off while Matraka’s is an actor who has stage presence and really looks beautiful and has always wanted to do drag. Gala Varo’s drag daughter has even worn heels before!
We get the usual makeover episode shenanigans but one thing that did stand out for me was Gala Varo’s tucking class. Because how do you have the nerve to teach a tucking class when your balls have been out for most of the season!
And good lord I was laughing during this lesson because there were illustraions? The balls even had hair and everything? And the drag daughter were all wide-eyed either because this fascinated them or — more likely — horrified them.
And then they show the queens actually helping them do it? The look of fear in the eyes of Cristian Peralta’s drag daughter? It was so funny? And then the drag daughters show off their new kitty cats and I am screaming.
Aside from that hilarious segment, Cristian Peralta and her drag daughter also have a nice discussion about gender expression. Cristian asked her drag daughter if losing his body or facial hair threatened his masculinity, to which the drag daughter responds that drag doesn’t have to be feminine — or at least stereotypically feminine. There are different kinds of women and different kinds of men, and drag should be inclusive and represent all those different kinds as well.
I also like the discussion about the different — or similar — attitudes to homosexuality in the different Latin American countries where the drag daughters come from. This is ignorance on my part, but because of the fact that all of them speak Spanish, my mind automatically assumes that all their countries are the same, which is of course a stupid assumption to make.
The runway finally commences and I have to say Gala Varo and her drag daughter look gorgeous. At least at first glance, because the longer you look at Gala Varo the longer her drag daughter outshines her.
Matraka and her drag daughter also look good, although I am thrown off by Matraka saying her daughter looks like a Korean. Like I know that K-pop is popular in Mexico but maybe it’s even more popular than I imagine?
Regina Voce’s drag daughter looks good as well, but that walk. That’s a man. Cristian Peralta and her drag daughter also look good, but compared to everybody else? The looks are a bit simple, to be honest. I feel like these two are going to be lip syncing.
And then the critiques start and I find out why I am not a judge on a reality show because they like Cristian Peralta’s? Regina gets the most negative critiques, with Matraka next. Gala Varo looks set to win this one.
Andddd Cristian wins this one again. Truly, Drag Race Mexico is her competition to lose. Gotta admit it’s kinda taking the shine of the show off for me but we’re almost at the end so let’s see this through all the way to the finish line.
Regina Voce and Matraka end up lip syncing and the do the whole dramatic thing of making it seem like Matraka’s the one going home tonight, but once again, the judges decide to keep them all around. If you’re contracted to film a certain number of episode why not just cast more queens???
