Ron Watches My Lovely Liar Episode 3

So I just found out that they released yet another new episode so I am five episodes behind? I’m trying to catch up, okay! But I don’t get paid for this and I have a job that actually pays me so I can eat and do stuff like this to destress.

When we last left off, Sol Hee unmasked Do Ha and Do Ha found out about it, resulting in that K-drama close-up that we all love.

So what’s the fallout then? Do Ha is not having it. He won’t even let Sol Hee help out his obviously drunk ass. He doesn’t go back to his apartment hideout, but instead retreats to his palatial digs instead. Which is really confusing for me because you first asked to be sent there and then you went back to the hideout but know you go back to the fancy place but maybe this is why I don’t get drunk.

Sol Hee’s feeling guilty about taking his mask off, but also — reasonably! — asks if that’s really enough for Do Ha to leave the apartment. It’s not like she knows about his possibly murderous past so bolting does really look like an overreaction.

I also get to know a little about the geography of the series as Do Ha talks to Deuk Chan — the company CEO — about his and Sol Hee’s past. Apparently, the setting in episode 1 was Hakcheon/Hapcheon, which isn’t exactly in the Busan area like I thought but nearer to Daegu. Hearing that now, I realize that the accent I was hearing was Jungkook imitating Yoongi’s dad.

Sol Hee, on the other hand, is not doing her Do Ha deep dive, realizing that some of her assumptions about him were wrong. She’s also curious why he hides his face when he looks the way he does, which is like so:

Do Ha, back in his palatial digs, has breakfast along with a side of product placement for almonds. Which seem to be working because I am now curious about those almonds myself. Got to check the grocery later. ANYWAY, breakfast just doesn’t feel as good for a rich pretty boy unless he’s eating it in a homey neighborhood away from all the glitz and glamor.

Sol Hee, on the other hand, is having her breakfast in the neighborhood resto and two guys from the shop owners association and trying out pick-up lines on her, which of course does not work out for them.

We’re then introduced to a new character and I don’t know is this maybe a little too much? I remember them introducing the brother in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? and that whole subplot was part of what was wrong. He then introduces himself as a police officer from Hakcheon/Hapcheon so he may not be a new character after all but the same policeman who apprehended the brother of Do Ha’s ex-girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Do Ha can’t sleep in his palatial home, and when a press conference is held there — does he live in a hotel? It doesn’t seem like it? Why hold a press conference in a residential building? — his anxiety is triggered and he heads back to the humbler apartment complex where Sol Hee lives.

The two of them end up bumping into each other, with Do Ha asking Sol Hee what she thought of him when she saw his face, giving me “This is the skin of a killer, Bella” vibes. Sol Hee, understandably, said that she thought he was handsome.

Syaon, despite ostensibly being the top idol right now, doesn’t really have her priorities sorted out just yet as she fakes an injury to get a call from Do Ha. I am all for dodging professional responsibilities for cock but the cock owner needs to like you back first boo.

BUT WHAT HAS ME CACKLING IS THE FREAKING PROTEST TRUCKS AT THE HOSPITAL WHERE SYAON’S AT. I CAN’T. Anyways, Sol Hee’s driver/bodyguard is at the truck protest since he’s a Syaon fan, and when he steps out for a bit to eat he ends up eating beside Syaon herself, who snuck out of her room since she was craving food. When he ends up recognizing her, Syaon bribes her with an egg and honestly if it was my bias I would keep quiet forever.

Meanwhile, Sol Hee’s mom is trying to siphon more money from her daughter by pretending like she’s fallen on hard times and is lining up at what’s probably South Korea’s vesion of a food bank. She doesn’t buy it of course.

It turns out that Sol Hee isn’t the only one with freeloading relatives, as Deuk Chan’s brother is also living off of what he’s earning without lifting a finger himself. When Deuk Chan refuses to help him out with his latest venture, the younger brother tales a photo of his…itinerary? Maybe it’s to sell the information to the press.

While Deuk Chan’s brother is doing whatever it is he’s doing, Sol Hee’s mother has managed to track her down and is piling on the guilt on her daughter. It seems Sol Hee “broke” the family when she was just an elementary school student? Will this be revealed down the line or in this episode, since Do Ha heard part of this conversation?

Nope, we get that flashback immediately! One of the victims of Sol Hee’s mother used Sol Hee to get back at her mother, resulting in the family losing what amounts to more than $700,00. That’s a lot of money!

Anyways, both Sol Hee and Do Ha have strained relationships with their mother, and it’s something the two of them bond over. The next day, as they share an elevator ride, Do Ha is intrigued when he overhears Sol Hee talking about a blind date on the phone, not knowing that this is just Sol Hee’s latest client.

We finally find out what Deuk Chan was going to use the itinerary for. He wasn’t going to sell the info to the press. Instead, he dangled it as “payment” for Syaon to eat at his burger place. Syaon gets Do Ha’s current location in return.

While Sol Hee is on her latest job, one of the client’s questions triggers a memory of her own, which reveals that the newly transferred policeman used to be her boyfriend! We have our second lead and unfortunately judging from the few moments we’ve seen him it’s not going to be a Kim Seon Ho situation.

Sol Hee’s latest job is heartbreaking though, because the client wants to know if her fiancé is lying to her and it turns out that he is, but she is too in love with him to give up on the relationship. BUT! As it turns out while the fiancé was lying, it was to cover up the surprise engagement he was arranging! He was a good guy all along! This does put a nice complication when it comes to Sol Hee’s abilities. Sure, a person may not be telling the truth, but the reasons for the lie give it context that could change the whole picture.

We get treated to another flashback where we see Kang Min — her ex, the reassigned cop — lying to her about why he’s been so busy, as well as his commitment to marry her next year. Turns out he was lying about those things, but with this new information we’re left thinking…what was the reason?

Anyways, as she walks along, reminiscing, she ends up at the same jazz bar Do Ha has been playing at. She gets drunk and also has a run-in with the boytoy from episode one. He is understandably pissed and of course ends up threatening Sol Hee, allowing Do Ha to step in and give us that K-drama male lead moment.

Do Ha gets her out of the jazz bar and the two of them have a few cute moments in his car before ending up in a restaurant whose hangover soup is Sol Hee’s go-to. The cuteness continues there, and when they drive back home Sol Hee tells Do Ha that people have their own troubled lives and won’t waste their time thinking about others, so Do Ha can ditch the mask.

Of course, Sol Hee immediately gets a reality check because the Dispatch people are at the apartment complex, drawn there by Syaon driving around trying to find where Do Ha is. Once Sol Hee figures out who they are, she does her best to distract them. Was she successful? We’ll find out in the next episode!
