Ron Watches Drag Race France Season 2 Episode 9

It’s the live finale! I put up the Meet the Queens video so everyone is reappraised of all the previous queens that have come and gone this season. Also because Kam Hugh hasn’t uploaded a video with Piche who got eliminated for a second time this season.

Let’s watch the finale!

I think Drag Race France is the first to film a finale like the US one? It’s in a theater, it’s live, there’s a huge audience present to appreciate the queens coming back with upgraded looks.

And the looks are upgraded. I especially loved Piche’s look among the non-finalists. I knew there was going to be a reveal but she did it so smoothly! It’s not on her Instagram just yet but it looked really good!

I’m not checking the Instagrams of the top four because I might get spoiled about who wins, but Keiona is a masterclass in wearing the dress and not wearing you. Her outfit isn’t as elaborate as the other four finalists, but the way she enters the room makes the outfit seem like it’s the most elaborate of them all.

The queens perform the theme for the season and honestly maybe this should have been the opening instead? So they could have work more performance-ready outfits? They all do their best but the gowns aren’t exactly helping out.

So, the finale is sort of a hybrid of the Season 8 and Season 9 finales of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The queens will perform individual songs and then Nicky picks the top two from those. The top two will then battle it out in a final lip sync.

I got to say, I love that Drag Race France has come up with a different term for the Lip Sync for Your Life, calling it a Legendary Lip Sync instead. It gives the show something distinctive and unique to it, aside from the fact that it showcases French drag, of course.

Keiona performs a disco-inspired number which was very high energy when it came to the dancing, but I do have to say that the sound during her performance wasn’t the best? I guess that’s the peril of doing things like this live!

Oh and they’re doing the “What would you say to child you?” segment in the finale! And they’re doing it after the words of encouragement from the queens’ loved one so you know they’re gunning for those sweet, sweet reality show tears.

Punani is up next and the sound is better for her performance. Did she perform better than Keiona? Well that’s a different story. Are Punani and her boyfriend Romain skinny white homos that I would crush on? Yes.

Before Mami Watta and Sara Forever’s performances we get a little conversation with the eliminated queens, and it’s Piche that gets the biggest moment, I guess? Her mom is there and tells her that parents would be so lucky to have a child like Piche.

Then we get back to the competition, with Mami Watta putting in a good performance but really what did we expect? Yes, it’s a stereotype, but you just expect and get good performances from the POC queens.

Sara Forever also performs well with what I think is an 80s-inspired number? What this finale is teaching me is that the French are very into retro right now. So far, the only one that looks to be not in contention for the top two to me is Punani. Sorry about that but you’re cute, you’re boyfriend’s cute, you’ve already won in life.

The queens do another performance of the Rusical and then we go on to the awarding of Miss Congeniality, which goes to Moon! She asks about a cheque again and while this may be a running joke with her maybe she really has fallen on hard times? Somebody book her!

We get a recap of the prizes with one additional thing — whoever wins gets to be the cover star of Elle France! Wow! The two finalists heading to the final lip synce are Keiona and Sara Forever, and I think rightfully so.

And you know what, that final lip sync actually HAD surprises that paid off! From Keiona’s TWO outfit reveals to her wig reveal, and Sara Forever’s wig reveal as well. If there’s anything that put one over the other, I’d say that Keiona’s reveals were on beat. It did not look awkward at all, or at least not too awkward.

Paloma’s back to crown her successor and the gown is great! But here now we come to the moment of ttruth and the winner is Keiona! Very well deserved and a great end to what has been a great season overall! Can’t wait for Season 3!
