Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Episode 3

Post is a little late today because I have a life outside of the internet! But we’re back today to watch the latest Drag Race! Let’s see how the queens get along when they finally meet each other!

So the second batch of queens are back at the Werk Room and they haven’t even spent a whole lot of time doing a post-mortem on their talent show before the Ru…Alarm? goes off. The first batch of queens arrive!

Having watched LITERALLY all the past seasons of Drag Race, it is kinda tired to have the split premiere queens meet up and pretend to be catty towards each other but then ~oh surprise~ they’re nice! You’re not following through on the premise! I prefer just having it like Season 6!

I will give the Season 16 girls this — once the niceties were over and they were back on the couches the shade immediately came out. Plane Jane, who was positioning herself as the shady queen of batch two, immediately gets squashed by Morphine Love Dion. It was very much Marsha Brady asking Jan where George Glass is.

There’s also some tension between Sapphira Cristal and Plasma but really I am interested in the sibling rivalry between Plane Jane and Morphine Love Dion. That could be a juicy conflict what with the implied history between the two of them since they have the same drag mother.

The next day, Sapphira and Plane get their immunity ~potions~ and it’s in a bottle shaped exactly like the one in Death Becomes Her. Plasma even quotes the famous line from the movie! Will they have to drink it once they decide to use it and will we get a ridiculous in the best ways special effects sequence?

In fact, when Ru explains that Sapphira and Plane can also decide to gift the potion to someone else, he also quotes the NOW A WARNING from the movie. Who is writing this season because I wanna contribute to their Patreon or something!

This week’s Maxi challenge is the ball challenge and the queens have to walk these three categories: Mother Goose, where the queens have to wear nursery rhyme-inspired outfits; Significant Mother, where they have to wear outfits inspired by famous moms; and Call Me Mother/Father Eleganza, where they have to create a mother of the ball outfit from menswear. Exciting!

Already, Morphine Love Dion looks to be in trouble after she only gets “the scraps” of the materials after Plane Jane got the blazer she was eyeing. See, now the producers have a storyline they can follow!

On the other hand, Dawn and Q, the seamstresses of the competition, are excited to make their outfits. And the way they keep talking about their skill makes me expect that neither one of them will win. Drag Race is cruel in that way!

Ru begins her walkthrough and steps right into it after asking Q how she got her skills. Q says she learned it from her grandma, Ru says aren’t you glad you had your grandma did that, and then Q said my grandma thought I would get AIDS from doing drag. AWKWARD.

The other walkthroughs also set up another rivalry for Morphine in the form of Mhi’ya Iman LePaige who Morphine says she once gave a $1 to as a tip. The shade. It also sets up Nymphia Wind as the winner of this episode OR the loser but more likely the winner because she isn’t bragging about the fact that she is also a seamstress. It’s giving Willow Pill holding her hands close to her chest!

Ru also announces that Rate A Queen returns this week and I am a little disappointed because I thought it would be a season-long thing! But apparently it was initially meant to be for the first two episodes and really ended up not. mattering at all BECAUSE NO ONE WENT HOME. This time around though, someone is going home so maybe it won’t be so useless.

Nymphia is a monster in the most positive way because she just says what she wants??? She shades Plane and actually rattles her? And from what I can see of what she’s constructing it looks really great? As they’re preparing for the runway Nymphia is just like…Nymphia??? I love her? Like all the other queens just faded into the background for me? This is a Nymphia blog now?

The Mother Goose runway lewks are generally pretty spectacular but I just am confused about some of the “characters”? Maybe they’re more American characters rather than…global one? I particularly liked Sapphira’s, Q’s, and Nymphia’s lewks.

Significant Mother is…okay. I dunno, I’m not a fashion gay but it just wasn’t it for me? I can’t explain it! Even Nymphia’s outfit just felt…okay to me. And I also confused Q and Plasma I literally thought Plasma showed up twice: first as Judy Garland and then Anne Boleyn. And I will be upfront and say that I can’t justify these opinions it there it’s all just form ~vibes~. One thing I particularly disliked and can explain why is Plane Jane’s look because I felt it was too lazy! Also rhese are lewks the queens brought with them!

Finally, the lweks they made! Geneva Karr’s lewk was…a lewk, let’s say that! Dawn’s felt…muted? Maybe it’s the colors. Hershii was giving Season 3 queens in day drag at the thrift store.

Q’s outfit looked good but again like with Dawn it didn’t feel as impactful because of the colors? At least according to me, the non-fashion guy. But Nymphia? THAT OUTFIT. How’d she make the ties look like that? And her narration was giving Jujubee talking about her cats while deciding which lipstick to choose during All Stars 5!

Plane Jane’s look was…deconstructed. Let’s say that.

So, after Rate A Queen, we end up with Geneva, Hershii, and Mhi’yah as the bottom three and Q, Nymphia, and Sapphira as the top three. Honestly, I thought Plane should have also been in the bottom but what do I know I’m just a viewer with my no drag knowledge mouth! And as much as people hate the judges I really appreciated them this episode because it made me understand why I felt a certain way about certain outfits. It’s always great to learn new things!

Geneva and Hershii end up being the bottom two and Hershii’s face! It’s so heartbreaking I couldn’t stand it. It looked like she already gave up the fight even before it started. I just want to give Hershii a hug.

I honestly thought neither of the queens gave a great lip sync? Both of them should have gone home? But it’s also not surprising that Hershii went home because she really looked defeated right from the start.
