Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 Episode 4

A new episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race is upon us once more and considering how shady the queens were to each other in the previous episode, this new episode will have an argumentative beginning, to put it nicely.

Let’s go!

Nymphia had a deserved win last week and I’m not entertaining any objections. But of course the one that has something to say the moment they return to the Werk Room is Geneva Karr, who was in the bottom with Hershii. She said her outfit speaks for itself and…well…it did, I guess. She also points out that Mirage should have been in the bottom since her outfit was worse but to be quite frank you couldn’t quite notice how bad it was when Mirage was walking the runway.

Q isn’t happy about the results either, because she was fully expecting to win the challenge and TO BE FAIR, I think she and Nymphia were neck and neck for the win. I was turned off a little when she seemed miffed at Nymphia winning. You could have been fishy to the fish and at least let Nymphia have her time in the spotlight!

Then the conversation finally moves to the ~tiff~ Plane Jane and Amanda had during Untucked and she really did have a lot of nerve saying that considering the outfit she amde. Like I am no fashion gay but COME ON NOW.

This is only slightly better than what Jorgeous did during her season.

Amanda, to her credit, can verbally spar with Plane Jane and got a few nice jabs in during their whole tussle. The question now is which one of them gets to stay longer in the competition!

The next day, RuPaul tells them that the Maxi Challenge is going to be RDR Live, which has the queens performing comedy skits live in just one take and the unfunny queens are really going to struggle here. And who are this season’s unfunny queens? We don’t know yet but we’ll find out soon enough!

What we do find out immediately is that between Morphine and Plane Jane, Morphine is the Marcia Brady and Plane is Jan because Morphine always has a cutting thing to say to Plane every time Plane tries it with her. I gotta say the casting has done great by what we’ve seen in the season so far!

There is also a little tension between Sapphira and Mirage because Sapphira is a bad bitch that doesn’t take any lip from anyone and honestly I wanna be Sapphira when I grow up. Even when she gave up the role she initially wanted she had Mirage second guessing her own choice and I wish I had that presence and power.

There’s also tension between Dawn and Plasma and HONESTLY. Clap for the casting directors because all three episodes have been action-packed so far! Not a dull moment!

So the queens break off into groups to rehearse for the show and Plasma goes into a whole Nanny Fine spiral of Barbra fangirlness I wanna watch The Nanny now.

The two queens who look to be struggling the most, at least from the way it’s been edited, is Mirage and Mhi’ya. Mirage because she outright says she’s struggling and Mhi’ya because she has not said a word or had a talking head confessional so far and we’re already 15 minutes into the episode. And with Mhi’ya not getting any airtime I am guessing Mirage is going to send her packing. This is further reinforced during Ru’s walkthrough, where it becomes painfully clear that Mirage and Mhi’ya are going to end up on the chopping block.

During this episode’s ~Learning Hour~, we find out that Xunami and Geneva are Dreamers, which allows them as the children of undocumented immigrants an opportunity to be part of American society. I don’t know enough about the intricacies of immigration in the United States so I really took this as an opportunity to learn a little bit more about what’s it about.

RDR Live starts and…well Xunami and Morphine aren’t exactly shining. Maybe Mirage and Mhi-ya won’t be lip syncing after all! Or Mhi’ya may still be lip syncing because woof. And Geneva isn’t bringing anything to the table either maybe all of them are going to lip sync my ghad.

OH GHAD MIRAGE ISN’T ANY BETTER WHEN WILL THIS TORTURE END. Plane and Megami are slight better but maybe it’s because everything before it was horrible? Why would this be the episode you invite Sarah Michelle Gellar to judge?

QNN is slightly better but the segment that really got the laughs — I use the term generously — from me is the Barbra Shop Quartet, where Plasma really did bring Barbra. At least Nymphia and Sapphira are going to be safe this episode!

So the runway theme is Everything, Every-Cher All at Once and…it’s underwhelming. Chad Michaels would be appalled. But Chad isn’t here probably because she about to die and Ru wanted her to be happy.

It’s Q who finally shows up having done her homewerk because my ghad was it stunning. Unfortunately it’s not up on her Instagram yet but it really was so good!

In fact, things really started looking up after Q. Plasma’s was good as well as well as Nymphia’s, while Sapphira’s was stunning. A feast for the eyes! And it was in blue which is her color!

So just like I thought early on, Mhi’ya and Mirage are not part of the safe girls and Nymphia and Sapphira are not safe but some of the judge’s critiques I couldn’t get, to be honest. I really found the voice Plane chose for her character really grating and not funny and I did not like Geneva’s outfit at all but what does it matter! I’m all the way here in the ~Global South~ as the wyts call it!

Plasma wins this week and I was a little moved at her crying. I dunno, it just felt so earnest and sincere and in this day and age I really am missing that a lot. Q does look a little gooped at not winning this week!

And Mhi’ya is safe from elimination because of her horrible Cher impersonation which HONESTLY I would have saved her for as well. It was SO BAD IT WAS GOOD.

Geneva and Mirage battle it out and while I thought Mirage definitely outdanced her, she didn’t know the words and it is a lip sync. You gotta know the words! She gets sent home and she is devastated and honestly I teared up a little! It felt like such a real moment and to see the other queens also crying was hard. Who would have thought that this more than a decade-old show could still wring some emotion!
