You guys (guy?) have to forgive me for the late posting for this current episode because I watched a concert yesterday and I have things to say about that but that’s for later.
Anyways, I’m here now watching the latest episode fo RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16! My whole body hurts from things not related to this episode but that’s for another post!
Adter Mirage’s emotional goodbye in the previous episode, the queens are going through it, with Nymphia even crying in the confessionals. The queens say their goodbyes to Mirage’s lipstick message and then congratulate Plasma, but it’s Q’s big Jan energy that gets attention.
Q is not happy about her consistent top placements but failure to get a win. Girl, be like Keiona from Drag Race France and just wait elegantly for your win to come! Being all pouty about it just makes production make you want to suffer more.
Plane even makes it even more painful for Q by being all Trixie Mattel about it and basically saying “That’s a lot of emotion for safe (top)” but saying it not in the confessionals but to Q’s face.
Of course, Q is not happy about it and she and Amanda Tori Meating, another one of Plane’s “victims”, bond over it while Geneva is agreeing with Plane about how it was hard to sympathize with Q.
The next day, Plane is back on Amanda Tori Meating’s ass and honestly if it weren’t for how they were fighting on Twitter post show I would think that plane want’s to be in Amanda Tori Meating’s ass with all this pigtail-pulling.
This week’s mini challenge is inspired by Ru’s new memoir — how many has she had? — and while a lot of the queen’s ideas are great it just will never top Jessica Wild’s way back in season 2.
Sort of related Nymphia’s Banana Queen branding has me craving bananas but I always seem to be late at the grocery store because all the better looking banana are always gone and I get the battered and beaten ones left.
Sapphira deservedly wins the mini challenge because I just enjoy pharyneal wall being used in Drag Race. Also Q’s face during her mini challenge loss? Jan has competition!
We then find out that this week’s Maxi challenge is girl groups! Sapphira, Plasma, and Geneva are named team captains. Sapphira choses Dawn, Morphine, and Q.
Meanwhile, Plasma picks Amanda, Xunami, and Plane Jane and come on Plasma did you not see how Plane and Amanda don’t work well together?
Finally, Geneva picks Mhi’ya, Nymphia, and Megami. Megami is feeling feelings over being picked last which just tells me she either goes home this episode or wins it! Morphine also says in confessionals that Geneva’s group is going to flop this challenge so I really feel like Megami’s going to do well!
We find out that Sapphira is in a girl group back in her hometown and that either means she’s going to micromanage and end up costing the team a win or she’ll win again.
Meanwhile, Plane Jane and Amanda are beefing and honestly if Plasma’s group ends up in the bottom this week she did this to herself.
Over at Geneva’s group Megami gets a dramatic moment about constantly feeling overlooked and I really feel like she’s going to shine this week! And I am so scared for Nymphia because it looks like she finds it difficult to write lyrics and I can’t blame her! Writing is hard! Well, writing is easy if you’re fine just putting out any old crap out there but if you want to put out something you’re proud of? It’s hard!
The girls start rehearsing and Plasma is going all theater kid and honestly I love it? Although I can understand if people might find it a little Rachel Berry-ish. But it’s so much fun watching people be passionate about something! Amanda is also shining — she was in Kinky Boots! — and Sapphira points out that Plane is probably feeling some type of way.
Geneva’s team is up next for rehearsals and the way they’re making it look, it seems Mhi’ya is going to be in the bottom this week. So I guess they’re going to be judged individually? Or maybe not because she’s struggling in the rehearsals as well so I guess Geneva’s group is going to be in the bottom today. Morphine was right!
Meanwhile, Sapphira’s group is looking correct in the girl group challenge thanks to Morphine’s choreography. Well, most of Sapphira’s group is looking correct because Q is struggling. I told you not to tempt production, now they’re going to make you look incompetent! And Nymphia is having the time of her life laughing at the proceedings. She even gets Mhi’ya to show some emotion!
The next day as they’re preparing for the stage Geneva is just hoping for her group to be mostly safe and one of them at the top. Doesn’t matter who it is. Honestly, the best case scenario would be if all of them were safe. Nymphia may have stepped up during the rehearsals but that could be editing faking us out and Geneva’s group still ends up looking horrid.
Q, on the other hand, directly confronts Jane about the whole “That’s a lot of emotion for being top” earlier in the episode and rather than this just being a Plane Jane and Q discussion it turns into an angry little ménage when Plane involves Amanda in the conversation. I am Morphine in the sense like I am enjoying watching the white people fighting!
That said, when Sapphira has a discussion with Plane about how she always gets herself into these scrapes and Plane says she’s enjoying living out her shady bitch fantasy I kinda feel even more…repelled? by her? Because it’s giving me a lot of the Regina George wannabees of stan Twitter. Okay, sure great, it’s all fun and games for you but maybe it’s not to other people? Or at least it doesn’t come off that way? It’s not like I’ve said incredibly shady things to my friends but that’s the difference. They’re my friends and there’s an understanding that there’s love or respect underneath it all. But when you say it to strangers it’s not always going to land well!
The performances start with Sapphira’s group up first and…well…Q’s a white person, let’s say that. But Sapphira kills it and so do the rest of the girls. But Q just sticks out like a sore white thumb.
Plasma’s group is so much better as a whole than Sapphira’s but it’s Geneva’s group that really shines for me! I guess the editing really did muddle things up for me because after the rehearsals I thought for sure they would be the bottom group!
We get to the runway and Sapphira’s pussycat wig being a pussycat is hilarious I love it! I also liked Amanda Tori Meating’s pussycat wig because I feel like it kinda went with how she does her make-up? I am not a drag artist so I can’t explain it well but it worked for her!
But it is motherfucking Nymphia Wind that rules the runway this week with three ways of interpreting pussycat wig. First, with a freaking cat on her head. Then a pussycat wig. And then a freaking pussy applique or something or whatever you call it. My god. And according to her Instagram she made this outfit!
Unsurprsingly, Geneva’s team wins this week’s challenge and I thought there was going to be a “Well this person stood out the most” thing but they all win and get to split the $5,000 cash prize!
During the critiques, it’s pretty obvious that Q and Amanda are going to be in the bottom and I guess it’s goodbye to Amanda because they’re not going to send Q home this early not when she’s got this unresolved “I haven’t had a win” moment. Amanda has been consistently in low placements so this is probably her time to go.
Ru asks the dreaded who should go home question and it ends up being a tie between Q and Amanda and Q is GOOPED. But of course it is Amada that goes home and the little smile on Plane’s face as she departs is cinema.
