All tea, all shade, I didn’t want to do this at first because of the hell I’ve been to in the past week — and will foreseeably be in the coming months — but I found myself actually forgetting about my problems a little watching and writing about RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World Season 2 so maybe I can keep doing this just to keep my mind occupied.
So here’s the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16!
Plane Jane’s nemesis, Amanda Tori Meating, was sent home in the previous episode and after the requisite sad statements in front of her mirror message, the queens immediately go to shading each other, with Dawn saying Team Geneva now each have a quarter of a win. Well, Nymphia has 1 and 1/4th of a win.
There is still some animosity between Q and Xunami after Q named Xunami as one of the queens who should go home last week, but Xunami is so much mature and honestly how I should take criticism. She realizes that there can be a lesson learned there and she is committed to improving herself.
The next day the queens talk about the work that they’ve had done on their body and it just shows that I have no eye for things like that because I couldn’t even tell Sapphira had her lips done? Also Nymphia? I don’t know why I could tell Xunami had her lips done though it just…felt like it?
The mini challenge is all about Spain and I can’t help but recommend that you guys watch Drag Race España All Stars. I’m watching it but I won’t be writing about it because honestly I have been emotionally overwhelmed the past few days and it would turn what has been a sort of relaxing activity for me into work. Which I don’t need. Like I need another job because I am in dire financial straits but writing Drag Race España All Stars reviews wouldn’t be paying me anything. Xunami wins the mini challenge and wins a trip to Spain! Wow!
Finally, Ru reveals that the Maxi challenge this week is the queens making two outfits: one for their doll version and one for themselves. It’s like the season three cake challenge! Sort of!
So, from what they’re showing us, it looks like Plane is going to be in trouble in this episode so she sets her sights on Geneva Karr, who she snipes at by saying that Geneva doesn’t know how to sew. Geneva more than holds her own so Plane then sets her sights on Plasma who is too focused on her sewing machine that she just lets Plane get a yard of fabric from her supply.
Mhi’ya is also once again looking like she’s going to be in the bottom this time around and good golly will this be the episode she goes home? Or maybe Sapphira will suffer a bottom placement because she’s helping Mhi’ya out and production does not like anybody helping anybody out. Remember Asia O’ Hara?
Side note, ever since Sapphira and Nymphia revealed they had their lips done I can’t unsee it now. Now it’s so obvious that their lips have had some work.
As the episode progresses Mhi’ya’s outfit really doesn’t look like it’s doing her any favors. So far she hasn’t had to lip sync but this may be the episode she does! And she may have to lip sync against Sapphira because it seems like she doesn’t have enough time to bring to life her ambitions designs.
Geneva also looks like she’s going to be in trouble because she’s redoing her outfit and unless you’re Trinity the Tuck — and I don’t think Trinity has had to redo an outfit she’s been working on — that never ends well.
The next day, the topic for discussion before heading onto the main stage is playing with dolls and we find out that Plane had a hard time with her father who did not approve of her playing with dolls. She also explains that maybe the ~critical~ nature of Russians is also why she is so harsh to the other girls and I can’t really say anything about that because the one time I ever met a Russian I got stranded on a mountain in Puerto Galera.
Q also shared her story of being from a family that wasn’t in the best financial shape and considering my financial situation right now I am feeling you so much Q.
The runway starts and Xunami’s look is…okay. Her face though? That face is painted. Sapphira’s outfit isn’t bad, but considering what she’s worn previously, I can see why Plane thought she’d be in the bottom. Plasma’s outfit is also…there. You really can see which queens don’t sew!
Plane’s outfit does look a little like a skating outfit but what really elevated it for me is that she acknowledges it and works it into her spiel. She’ll either be safe or on the top this episode, probably! Meanwhile, Nymphia’s outfit is very meh, especially considering the spectacle she had on during the previous episode.
Mhi’ya’s actually doesn’t look that bad, but maybe because I am “grading” her on a scale? Like compared to her previous outfits it’s not like it’s worse? But then again I am not a fashion gay at all so take everything I say about the runways with a grain of salt!
The judges really do not like Geneva’s work, just judging from the facial expressions. Nobody even makes a pun other than Ru and Michelle thinking about butter. Yikes.
The critiques start after Sapphira takes the immunity potion and Nymphia, Megami, Xunami, and Morphine Love Dion are declared safe. Law Roach really is the star on this panel for this episode. The critiques were harsh BUT on point and you really can’t argue against it! He’s right and he said it! Plane, Dawn, and Q end up at the top and Geneva Karr, Mhi’ya, and Plasma are the bottom queens.
Q finally wins and I am really happy for her because her look WAS gorge. Plasma is safe and like I said earlier, Mhi’ya and Geneva are in the bottom this time around. They’re lip syncing to Janet freaking Jackson and while I still feel like this lip sync could have been fiercer because it’s Janet freaking Jackson I think Mhi’ya won this one.
