Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 Episode 7

Thanks to a lot of lovely people around me, the situation I found myself in has been mostly resolved and I can flit about online and in the real world with a much lighter heart. I can now watch this new episode not as a distraction but as someone actually interested in what’s going on!

Let’s watch the new episode!

The queens file in after Geneva Karr’s elimination and Mhi’ya provides some unintentional comedy when she’s unable to read the mirror message left for her. But comedic as she may be the other queens are now very aware that she can mop the floor with a lip sync.

With Q finally winning a Maxi challenge, it looks like Dawn is the new Q because she’s itching for a win now and she’s being shady towards the other girls, at least in the confessional. Megami does land one nasty jab at Dawn by calling her in her outfit Buzz Lightyear, and Megami said it right to Dawn’s face.

In the RuMail, Ru once again very clearly telegraphs that this episode’s Maxi challenge is a Sound of Music-inspired Rusical. And as someone who watched The Sound of Music on TWO FREAKING VHS TAPES? I am expecting a LOT.

There is immediate drama since the roles are not assigned and the queens have to decide amongst themselves. The main conflict is between Megami and Q, who both want the Baroness role, but it is settled in the most diplomatic way possible: via rock, paper, scissors. Fairest way to make a decision if you ask me!

The next point of contention is Plasma, Sapphira, and Morphine duking it out over the Mariah role. I mean I guess there was a little dust-up between the Mother Superior role since Megami wanted it but nobody else saw her in it but Megami gave up too quickly. Both Morphine and Sapphira insist that the Mariah role is theirs, but in the end it’s Plasma that really digs her heels in and gets the part.

Once the roles are handed out and they get to rehearsing Plasma goes on and on about how sacred The Sound of Music is to her and DAWN gives that breaking the fourth wall moment that has me SCREAMING. THE SHADE OF IT ALL.

And then Plane, Q, and Xunami are really going method with their mean girl roles and are walking around the Werk Room throwing shade left, right, and center. Telling Morphine “I wish your role fit you”???? SCREAMING. Going to Megami and telling her the role she got was “smaller and less noticeable”???? THE SHADE.

At rehearsals the next day, there’s a little skit with Melissa McCarthy that I frankly do not get but I guess she was there to be a distraction? Sapphira was definitely distracted, or at least she said she was.

Another one that looks to be in trouble is Mhi’ya, who surprisingly is having a hard time with the choreography. And considering how many times she’s been in the bottom or close to it in the past few episodes, another bottom placement probably means the end for her on the show.

Since this is a dancing challenge, Q is once again at a disadvantage, with Adam Shankman straight out saying that she looks like a messy man during rehearsals. OUCH. Plane is also not getting the choreography and Megami is relishing the fact that the ~villains~ shit-talk might just be all talk after all.

Of course, Megami’s joy is short-lived because as it turns out, she doesn’t get the choreo either! Even self-confessed musical theater hater Dawn is commenting how easy their choreo is in the confessionals.

As the queens prepare for the Rusical the next day, we find out that Plane used to be a ballroom dancer! She quit when she was in high school because somebody told her that ballroom was gay and I don’t know if the story was meant to humanize her or something but it was…okay.

The Rusical starts and the songs are so far from the original musical so I don’t even know what Plasma was holding sacred or whatever. It’s an entirely different thing wearing a The Sound of Music skin! Like sure there are nods but come on now.

Either way, it all goes along pretty smoothly. Is it my favorite Rusical? Like was I clapping and screaming like a homosexual? Not really. But it was enjoyable!

The runway theme is flowers and Sapphira! My golly. That was beautiful. I wish it was already on her Instagram account but it’s not. Mhi’ya also looks better than she’s ever looked! Was the look outstanding? I don’t really know but it’s miles ahead of her former runway looks!

Megami’s look is…I don’t know it kind of looks like her look from the pussycat wigs runway. And it doesn’t help that the queens that follow her are Nymphia and Q, who both deliver show-stopping looks but in different fonts, if that makes sense?

The safe girls this week are Dawn, Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane, and Xunami Muse, while Plasma, Sapphira, and Q are the top queens. In the bottom are Megami, Morphone, and Mhi’ya and oh lordy they’re all M names. And I think Mhi’ya is the one going home this week because she’s been bottom-adjacent too many times!

Plasma is this week’s winner and becomes the second queen to get two wins after Nymphia! Meanwhile, Mhi’ya and Megami land in the bottom and I am so sorry to Mhi’ya but you are probably the one going home this episode.

AND WOULDN’T YOU KNOW IT MHI’YA SENDS MEGAMI HOME. COLOR ME SURPRISED!
