Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 Episode 8

Yet another episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race this Saturday morning? Afternoon? And I have to say that so far I have been enjoying this season! There hasn’t been an episode where I’ve basically tuned out and the queens have been a nice balance of shady and entertaining. Because you know those two aren’t always the same thing!

Let’s go watch the latest episode!

Megami’s been sent home and Mhi’ya has no qualms shading her and the other queens, especially when Morphine tries to be Miss Congeniality and Mhi’ya flat out says Morphine didn’t even like Megami. This is what the judges want from you during the challenges Mhi’ya!

During the table talk the following day, there’s a lot of playful shade being thrown around especially towards Xunami and her apparent skill at snagging the menseses. Plasma’s read about Xunami always being safe? Chef’s kiss.

Props to the editors and the production for all that playful bantering that smoothly segues in the mini challenge for toady’s episode: Reading. Admittedly, the past seasons have seen some lackluster reads but I have to say the production really chose some good reads to air this season. Xunami gets her revenge on Plasma when she asks where she was on January 6 and I am SCREAMING. I even laughed at Mhi’ya’s non-read because it was perfectly placed.

Xunami deservedly wins the reading challenge and then we are told that this episode’s Maxi challenge is Snatch Game! It’s an audience favorite but even I gotta admit that the regular seasons and honestly even some of the All-Stars seasons haven’t been delivering. Up until now I’m still hung up on Jinkx Monsoon as Judy Garland on All Stars 7.

The queens start talking about their Snatch Game picks and Nymphia Wind goes with freaking Jane Goodall. JANE GOODALL. How are you going to make it funny? I do see banana jokes down the line but I really truly do not know how this is going to be funny.

Dawn picks Meghan McCain and girl Meghan picks fights on Twitter she might send her conservative followers to swarm you! Be careful! Plasma is doing Patti LuPone and honestly it seems like a great pick for her even if Dawn thinks otherwise!

Ru enters for the walkthrough WITH CHAD FUCKING MICHAELS I HAVEN’T SEEN HER IN SO LONG SHE’S STILL SO BEAUTIFUL.

Just like the previous episodes, Mhi’ya is once again struggling and honestly I really think that this is the episode where Mhi’ya goes home. I know I’ve been saying that over and over but maybe I’ll get it right this time!

Nymphia also looks to be in trouble with Chad actually saying that she’s scared for her and girl please at least be safe in this challenge. Nymphia does stick to her guns in much the same way that she stuck to her working with ties during episode three so maybe she is safe!

The Snatch Game starts and already Sapphira looks to be taking the crown with her James Brown. Mhi’ya, SURPRISINGLY, starts off good! And Plane Jane’s Beautiful Balkan War Survivor? SCREAMING.

NYMPHIA MY GOD YOU’RE GOING TO LIP SYNC FOR YOUR LIFE I’M CRYING YOU BETTER COME OUT WITH A KILLER OUTFIT. And it looks like Xunami is going to be in the bottom with Nymphia and my ghad I am so scared for Nymphia.

Before the runway, the queens talk about the state of queer rights and their relationship with their parents and I am kinda proud that Nymphia comes from a pretty progressive place and it’s the American queens who have to deal with backwards attitudes? Asia and Asian society is almost always portrayed in Western media as much more conservative and it’s nice to see American audiences get to see that the whole continent is not a monolith.

It’s time for the runway and let’s be honest here. Nymphia’s Snatch Game? Horrible. BUT THAT RUNWAY LOOK THOUGH. GORGEOUSNESS. I hope it’s enough to save her from the bottom!

AND IT’S NOT ENOUGH. It’s Q, Plasma, and Dawn that are the safe queens and oh my golly Nymphia I am so scared!

Plane Jane wins the Snatch Game and honestly that Beautiful Balkan War Survivor had me on her side from the beginning. AND NYMPHIA IS SAVED HONESTLY ONLY THANKS TO THAT RUNWAY PRESENTATION BECAUSE HER SNATCH GAME REALLY DID STINK.

Xunami and Morphine are set to lip sync for their lives and their faces are NOT HAPPY. Xunami especially looked pretty downcast for the first time since the competition started and I can’t help but think that she’s the one going home this time. And she does go home, unfortunately. But she does go out gracefully like she said! I love her!
