Ron Does Stuff

It’s the third episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World season two and it looks like it’s going to be an acting challenge! I, personally, did not like the acting challenge for Drag Race Philippines when Marina was on it so I don’t know how well she’ll perform in this one? This is how you know Pangina’s elimination traumatized Southeast Asians because I expect Marina to be voted off any moment now.

Choriza is pretty affected by Arantxa’s exit and vows to make it all the way to the end for her, but honestly that’s going to be tough to do considering you have La Grande Dame and Marina in the way. Add to that the fact that Tia is starting to doubt if Choriza is going to be staying true to the UK alliance that was tentatively formed during the first episode of the show.

And maybe Tia was right to be suspicious of Choriza because Choriza is very vindictive, immediately promising retribution when Keta Minaj reveals that she would have sent Choriza home. But Keta may just be safe this episode because Scarlet is walking around essentially saying she’d send the strongest bitches home which really is production setting you up to be eliminated. She really is the drama!

The next day, La Grande Dame is wearing Tia’s vest and I go HMMMM? But there’s no time to think about that because Ru walks in and tells the queens that this week’s Maxi challenge is Drag Race World, where the queens are grouped into teams of three and have to make a video emphasizing their unique selling propositions. That corporate speak is brought to you by my time in the capitalist coal mines slowly killing our planet.

La Grande Dame, Keta Minah, and Choriza May are the team leaders for this challenge and La Grande Dame picks Hannah Conda and Jonbers Blonde, Keta picks Tia Kofi and Marina Summers, and Choriza May picks Scarlet Envy and Gothy Kendoll. This is going to be interesting!

Once they start talking about their teams, Gothy Kendoll points out that none of the season three girls from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK had a good performance during the green screen challenge and obviously Gothy has never made it that far in the competition. Scarlet ends up leading the team by default.

Tia, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be on the same page as Marina and Keta because both girls are — in Tia’s own words — doing “tourist adverts” while she is doing the challenge. And Tia does have a point here because the judges didn’t get Marina’s Dugong reference and leaning too much in things that are too Filipino might push them away? Something to consider!

Team La Grande Dame looks to be the strongest so far, as they all seem to have ideas that they all agree are good. Nobody’s being shady in the confessionals. But of course that could just mean that they’re safe!

During the walkthrough Team Keta kinda gets called out for making it look like a tourist video like Tia pointed out but Tia is definitely the PR queen of the season because she expertly spins that to make it look like the videos are going to be a tour of the different Drag Race franchises that have come out all over the world.

Team Choriza gets great feedback while Team La Grande Dame gets a little it of positive and negative feedback about their ideas which just once again makes me anxious because it looks like Team Keta is going to be in the bottom and this is going to be the episode where Marina gets sent home.

The anxiety is further heightened by Werk Room shots of Team Keta struggling to incorporate Ru’s feedback into their storyboards. This is definitely the episode where Marina gets Pangina’d I can feel it.

When the queens finally start shooting Gothy is immediately getting negative feedback from Michelle so I guess she and Marina will be in the bottom? At least maybe she gets sent home since she was already given a second chance?

Marina kinda does okay during the shoot and it’s Keta that gets the shady background music, which calms down my anxiety a bit. Maybe Marina is in the bottom but isn’t up for elimination?

Team La Grande Dame comes on and La Grande Dame kinda flubs it during the taping? Oh my golly? But she probably won’t be sent home UNLESS it’s Scarlet at the top this episode. La Grande Dame also goes overtime with her bit and now the rest of the team is scrambling to get all their stuff in and does this mean that Marina is at least safe???

On elimination day, Southeast Asian queens Marina Summers and Keta Minaj (she’s half-Indonesian!) talk about the state of queer rights in the Philippines and Holland, respectively. I think Marina paints an altogether accurate picture of the situation in the Philippines especially since she’s talking to Westerners, and I guess Keta did the same but I don’t live in Holland so can’t speak over her.

The runway looks are presented before the videos and La Grande Dame pissing herself? NOW THAT IS A REVEAL. It is such a serve that Choriza May’s “reveal” is an immediate Boot although I feel like she would have gotten a boot anyway even if she went in before La Grande Dame.

Tia Kofi’s looks are…okay? I didn’t particularly like the second outfit. Marina’s volcano look was great although I kinda wish the outfit didn’t involve leaving pieces behind? OBVIOUSLY I am not a designer but I wishe there was some way that the first outfit could transform into the second outfit without her having to leave pieces behind.

The videos get shown and oh gawd Team Keta I am disintegrating. But Tia kinda salvages it for me I think? Team La Grande Dame is slightly better but it does feel a tad long? I thought they didn’t have any time to shoot? Team Choriza is…imagine a shrug emoji here. I don’t know I had a long night yesterday and I think I’m still sleepy!

Ru then says that the queens will be judged individually and I guess that kinda means all the videos were uniformly meh? It was to me at least! Marina, Choriza, and Hannah are all pronounced safe and THE RELIEF. At least Marina gets to slay another day!

Tia Kofi and Scarlet Envy are the top two queens this episode and I agree! Tia was the high point of her group and now that the judges have laid it out for me Scarlet being in the top also made sense. La Grande Dame is saved by her piss dress and her expressing how she understands the judges’ critiques and that she’s going to incorporate them moving forward. Keta and Jonbers are the bottom two and if Scarlet wins this lip synch then it’s bye Keta.

Back in the Werk Room, Jonbers is still salty about not getting enough time to do what she wanted to do to which La Grande Dame responds that your material doesn’t work no matter how much time you’ve been given and I am SCREAMING. WHITE ON WHITE VIOLENCE.

But it’s not looking good for Keta because the safe queens are all saying that they’d send her home. And the queens are also talking about how Scarlet has outright send she would be sending her strongest competition home. And Scarlet even reinforces that in her confessional! I do still think both of them are going to send Keta home.

We get a lip sync between Tia and Scarlet and I don’t know if it’s the song or the queens but it’s not a very exciting battle. Scarlet ends up winning the lip sync and SENDS JONBERS BLONDE HOME OMG. I think she should have gone home, don’t get me wrong, but I thought she would fully send Keta home because she’s the stronger competitor I think.
