Oh my golly gosh I am on time today! I did all my errands yesterday so I get to actually watch my shows today. Let’s jump right in!
Last episode was the Snatch Game and thankfully, despite what is honestly not her best performance, Marina was able to make it through to this new episode.
Marina is shocked that Keta was sent home but as a viewer, it really didn’t come as a surprise especially after Tia reaffirmed with the fellow UK girls that she is loyal to their alliance. What’s funny is that Gothy didn’t even expect to survive the last episode but she’s a little miffed at Hannah’s perfectly reasonable choice of picking her lipstick.
Anyways, the queens decide to de-drag and PROPS TO THE EDITING TEAM for putting all the queens saying “Ugh” every time Choriza mentioned who already has a badge. Hilarious!
The next day the girls have to read each other for the mini challenge and Gothy puts in a better performance than I expected! BUT HANNAH CONDA SAYING MARINA IS GOING TO GROW A MOUTH FOR HER TEETH? I SCREAMED???? Tia had some great reads too but I never got over Hannah’s read for Marina, fuck that was such a good read? I feel like she should have won the mini challenge instead of Tia.
Ru announces that the Maxi challenge for this week is the Rusical and while I did not think the Drag Race Philippines season 1 musical was any good if there’s one thing a Filipina drag queen is going to do it’s fucking perform.
And Marina is a recording artist herself! If the previous episode was laying down the storyline of her less than stellar performance this episode is already building her up to be one of the top queens this episode.
Meanwhile, Gothy is being set up to fail by the editing because she’s already saying in the confessional that she’s looking to just blend in. You’re already five episodes in, girl. They want you to stand out!
Tia, having won the mini challenge, is generally chill with handing out the parts and the only friction that happens is when Gothy and La Grande Dame both want the same verse in the song. But even then Tia’s Solomonic about it and hands out the roles pretty fairly!
The queens get some vocal coaching from Self Esteem and I feel like she really was looking out for the queens’ self esteem because I did not like some of those voices but then again I can’t carry a tune either so who am I to speak?
During the choreography rehearsal, Scarlet and Hannah kind of get into it a little as Hannah doesn’t think Scarlet has a choreo planned for the rest of the girls during her part while Scarlet thinks that Hannah is being purposely obtuse and making it harder than it should be.
Meanwhile, La Grande Dame looks to be on her vulnerability storyline because she really isn’t grasping the dancing part of the challenge. Her instructions are confusing everyone and Tia even points it out in the confessional.
On the day of the challenge, Tia shares with Hannah about how difficult it was to lose her mother during COVID, and this really cements in my mind that Tia is going to be one of the queens in the finale because this is the second time that she’s been given a moment like this, with the first one being her tribute to Cherry Valentine.
The Rusical starts and it’s actually okay! But Choriza and Gothy really stood out when they weren’t the ones performing and not in the best way, which pretty much puts them in the bottom two.
The runway theme is When I Glow Up and Tia starts it off strong with her upgraded pterodactyl look with freaking wings that move. Is it a Courtney Act season six moment? Not quite, but it is an upgrade from the original look!
Marina is also STUNNING with a glow up of her already good terno outfit from the first season of Drag Race Philippines. And of course it’s going to look good it’s an Axel Que creation he dresses beauty queens!
La Grande Dame also delivers although I disagree with her initial assessment of her condom dress from her season. I thought that looked great! But this one definitely takes it to another level and the ~fluid~ later on just adds to it.
Tia and Marina are the top two queens of the week and Choriza and Gothy are the bottom two and honestly. it’s all correct. These four really stood out this week in the best and worst ways.
Tia and Marina lip sync against each other and here’s where Marina shows her smarts. She does the Pia Wrutzbach smize that the judges loved so much and she ends up winning the lip sync! Well deserved!
With Marina winning the lip sync, she dispatches another one of the UK girls and sends Gothy home, which as fun as it is watching Gothy, it really was her time to go. At least she’s gone WAY FURTHER than she did in her season!
