Can you believe it’s we’re now 11 episodes into the current season of RuPaul’s Drag Race? After taking a break from anything Drag Race-related late last year I thought it would be harder for me to get back into it but I’ve discovered I just need to take time off with each edition and not watch them one after the other.
Anyways, back to this season!
Nobody went home last episode and Sapphira also notched her second win, much to Morphine’s chagrin. It was her first time in the top and with a win that close it must have been even more frustration to not get it.
Meanwhile, Plane explains why she gave the immunity potion to Nymphia. One, because she likes Nymphia. Two, taking out one of the queens she believes to be in the bottom three would result in Q and Dawn being the bottom two queens for the week.
Q and Dawn, however, think differently. They feel very much that Plane was in the bottom last week and Dawn chides Planes and tells her to just accept that it was a bad night for her. Dawn takes the extra step and calls out Plane’s gown as a “boring sparkly dress” which sets Plane off. Which honestly was so fun to watch. Just like Morphine said, the cracks were showing and it was fun.
The next day, the queens play the Spill the Tea mini challenge, where they just vote for who’s the prettiest, etc. Just to stir drama, basically, but at least the queens get to win money! All the queens, not just the winner!
After that mini challenge, the queens are told that this week’s Maxi Challenge is making a human resources seminar. You guys know what kind of seminar it is. Or at least the ones of you who are already working because some viewers might still be studying. Of all the groups, I think Sapphira’s will be the one faring a bit better since Sapphira doesn’t mind helping out her fellow queens, and Nymphia and Morphine are going to be needing some help.
The other queen that looks to be on shaky ground is Mhi’ya, who is fully trusting that Dawn will be able to do enough for both of them to be safe. Honey, she is not Sapphira, Dawn will likely drop you if the opportunity arises! Especially when it really does look like Dawn is going to be doing most of the work!
Morphine immediately gives me both arthritis and lower back pain because she does not know what a seminar is. Is she just incredibly young or am I just decrepit and ancient and about to crumble into dust any moment now?
During the walkthrough with Michelle Visage and Joel Kim Booster, most of the queens get…lukewarm…critiques. None of them seem to be hitting it out of the park and maybe next week’s episode is everyone of them lip syncing? We shall see!
As the queens prepare for the Maxi Challenge we find iut that Q is actually HIV-positive and has been for two years now. What really surprised me is how there’s still stigma surrounding it in a First World country, even among healthcare providers. First World people like calling countries like mine backwards because of prejudices they brought along when they colonized us so you think they should at least back up their superiority complex with actual progressive thinking but I guess that’s not in the cards.
The Maxi Challenge stars and Plane Jane and Q actually got me going with the slides and the clips right out of the gate. I didn’t find the rest of the presentation as funny as everyone else did but they were still funny! Just not as funny to me as it seemed to everyone else.
Mhi’ya and Dawn, on the other hand. Oh god. Oh god. I’m getting a stomachache just watching it it’s so painful. This is definitely going to send Mhi’ya to the bottom again because she was the weaker one of this weak presentation.
I don’t know if Sapphira’s group was legitimately funnier or they just seemed funnier because Mhi’ya and Dawn’s performance just stunk up the place so bad? But come on, the Noxeema Jackson shoutout? COME ON. And Nymphia’s accent slowly devolving into the accent that I constantly hear in Lau Pa Sat? COME ON.
The 80s flashback runway is hit or miss for me. I did not like Plasma’s outfit but I loved Q’s Keith Haring-inspired print. I am just…okay…with Dawn’s outfit as well as Mhi’ya’s. Sapphira says her inspiration was Dynasty but what I saw was 80s Whitney Houston, which are both compliments don’t get me wrong! Morphine’s outfit doesn’t register as 80s at all to me while Nymphia is once again just like Q but in a different font, if that makes sense. They both went for Keith Haring-inspired prints!
Durting the critiques, it looked like Sapphira and Nymphia were the top queens and they were, with Sapphira securing her third win. BUT the real star was Q’s Jan face because she was not happy and even told Sapphira TO HER FACE that she was gagged at the results.
Mhi’ya and Morphine are the bottom queens and BITCH. The cape(?) throwing? The flipping? The long splits? It’s no Brooklyn Hytes versus Yvie or even Mimi versus India but I was living!
BUT EVEN THEN AS THEY’RE ABOUT TO SAY GOODBYE Q’S STANK FACE IS PULLING FOCUS AND I AM GOOPED AND GAGGED IT’S THE REAL STAR OF THE SHOW FOR REAL.
