It’s the finale! I don’t want to get spoiled so I’m jumping right into this thing!
We start off with a RuPaul performance and, well, she’s at an advanced age! Can’t expect her to do death drops and stuff! It’s very Pointer Sisters walking around the stage and we love it.
The finale isn’t at a theater this time around with audiences who’ve already seen the show and have people they root for which from what I’ve read online is because of the writers strike? I don’t really know but it’s like a return to the ~old ways~.
The queens make their way back everybody looks great! I don’t mean for this to be shady but Amanda looks the best she’s ever looked! Xunami looks womana and Plasma really is bringing that Old Hollywood glamor. Morphine Love Dion is also bringing biological woman. And Q is giving Pia Wurtzbach down. Justice for Marina Summers!
Nymphia Wind is really committed to the banana gig and you really have to applaud for it because she’s definitely got her brand down pat. Which is more than I can say for Plane Jane who is gorgeous but doesn’t really bring more than that? At least in this runway. She’s very beautiful though!
Sapphira brings back her Fisher Price titties and see Sapphira has also understood the assignment as well! Aside from the obvious competence and seasoned queen storyline she had that titty storyline going on as well! Like how they ~evolved~ throughout the season!
Nymphia is the first finalist to perform and I am sweating buckets and it’s not just because we are in hell here in this country with the unbearable heat. And it’s a fine performance! Nymphia really shows her dancing chops, although I wish she had more of a moment with the Taiwanese traditional costume.
Nymphia gets great critiques — I think everyone will this finale — and now we get the “If you were to speak to your younger self” moment that’s now a Drag Race staple. And my goodness young Nymphia looks just like some of the kids I grew up with. Which really shouldn’t surprise me since I am Asian but I guess it’s been that long since we’ve had an Asian Queen reach this far in the competition? I was also a little worried that she was a little too calm during this moment in the competition because Mama Ru loves her drama but the supportive words from her mom made her cry and it almost made me cry too!
Plane Jane is up next and they bring up all of her hilarious moments during the season and I wish that was somehow incorporated into her runway look earlier? I don’t how but that’s why she’s the drag queen and I’m somebody just watching at home!
This performance does a better job of showcasing her brand of drop dead gorgeous bimbo with a stupid sense of humor. It’s a good performance but I guess downside is that there have been quite a number of drop dead gorgeous bimbos in the past seasons of Drag Race. Which isn’t to say that Plane Jane isn’t a great talent by herself. It’s just that because of the show’s history, you can’t help but compare her to previous contestants. Ru’s insistence on not crowning an Asian queen since Raja has just made Nymphia stand out more.
It’s finally Sapphira’s turn to perform and that opening. Talk about shock and awe! And Sapphira doesn’t really slow down after that opening. She pissed all over that stage! She really is the one to beat in this competition.
Before they announce the top placements they announce that this finale will pay tribute to Elvira who I love. I remember watching a movie of hers on Cinemax on Sky Cable and just being entranced.
Ru finally announces the top two and it’s a battle between Sapphira Cristal and Nymphia Wind! And while I love love love Nymphia as can be seen in all the posts I’ve made about this show, she’s just not going to win against Sapphira. It’s just not going to happen!
Sasha Colby takes her final walk and that gown.
I actually thought her performance was her “final walk” and I thought that would be an interesting twist to things since it’s always been one-upping with gowns ever since Violet Chacki returned for the Season 8 finale but of course there has to be a final walk involving a stunning gown it just has to happen.
Before we get to the final lip sync we get a Miss Congeniality announcement and it’s a tie between Xunami Muse and Sapphira Cristal! Oh my goodness is Sapphira going to be the first queen to win the crown and also be Miss Congeniality?
Nymphia and Sapphira are back on stage for the final lip sync and I am sorry Nymphia I love the boba outfit but it is just so obvious that there’s going to be a reveal. Like it’s a great outfit don’t get me wrong!
And maybe I did get it wrong because when she opened it up and the balloons flew up? I was gooped and gagged. I also think that the fact that Nymphia hasn’t lip synced at all during the competition just made her performance more impactful? Because who knew she could do all that? I mean her fans in Taiwan probably did but it’s all new to the Americans!
AND OMG NYMPHIA WON! OMG I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! LIKE I WANTED IT TO HAPPEN BUT STILL!
