Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 9 Episode 2

So, I absolutely did not expect for there to be another episode available of this All Stars season. Not because I thought out would be canceled after the first episode — the franchise is too big at this point — but because I thought the first episode had just premiered. Quelle surprise and all that.

Let’s get into episode 2!

In the previous episode, Angeria Paris VanMichaels won the first Maxi Challenge and gave Roxxxy Andrews the first cut of the season. However well Roxxxy performs in this episode, she won’t have a chance to earn a badge that’ll be added up for the finals.

Roxxxy isn’t too mad about it because honestly? If you get cut or blocked in this format that means you’re a threat. It’s a bit more insulting if nobody even considers you for blocking. And she still gets to win money for her charity anyway if she wins this episode.

There’s no mini challenge this week and we dive right into the Maxi Challenge, which is the Paint Ball, where the are going to serve three looks: a monochromatic look, a look inspired by a work of art, and a final look that they will make and hand paint. FUCK.

Nina West is understandably worried, because it’s something that Jorgeous brought up during the de-brief after the first episode. Jorgeous said she’d cut Nina because she sees her as threat…except during a sewing challenge. And would you look at that we get the ball challenge for the second episode.

Vanjie is also hilariously relating her troubles with sewing and the way she was struggling with what that was she had partially sewn? Oh lordy it’s good that there’s no eliminations this season!

When they showed that snippet of Roxxxy telling the girls to test out the paint on their fabric first before cutting anything, I immediately thought that Roxxxy would be the mother this season and she really is, helping out Nina because quite honestly Nina is in trouble. But it’s not just Nina she’s helping out, she’s literally helping out everybody. But I don’t think it’s going to impede her at all because Trinity the Tuck also did it for All Star 7 and baby when it’s right, it’s right.

During the walkthroughs the queens also get to talk about the charity organizations they’re representing and I gotta say that personally, I’m so proud to see Plastique lean more into her Asian-ness this season. It really is what makes her stand out compared to the other queens and is something she shouldn’t have been made to feel ashamed about growing up.

Also Angie doing the Essie product placement I love it. As you guys know from me watching K-dramas, I love me some awkward product placement.

As the queens get ready for runway day they also start discussing who they’re going to cut. Plastique and Roxxxy are looking at Nina and Angeria since they’re fully expecting next week’s challenge to be a comedy one. Shannel notices the cliques already forming two episodes in while Nina is very aware that with the ball challenge now done it’s the acting and comedy challenges left, making her a logical target for snipping.

The runway starts and overall my favorites are Gottmik and Plastique Tiara. I think all the girls had great pieces but for me it was Gottmik and Plastique who had a stronger set compared to everybody else. And the judges agree with me!

The lip sync was…okay, I guess? I don’t think it was the best song for the situation but I do agree that Gottmik had control of that stage. I fully expected she’d cut off Nina West but it also does make sense to cut Angeria off since she is a funny queen who already has a badge and a head start.
