Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 9 Episode 6

Not gonna lie — I’ve had a headache since this morning and I almost didn’t watch this new episode because it just hurts. But I can’t fall asleep either because of the pain so to just distract myself from it I’m just going to watch this episode. Let’s go.

Roxxxy is the frontrunner after the previous episode but she can’t enjoy the moment because she had to cut Gottmik from getting a badge this episode. She’s immediately defending her decision to the other queens and is very emotional about it. As Gottmik herself put it, Roxxxy is the saddest frontrunner she and the rest of the audience has ever seen.

Roxxxy tells Angeria that she truly did not intend to land on her when she was doing the random snip but Gottmik doesn’t believe it. So what is the truth? I don’t know since I wasn’t in the room but I hope that Roxxxy doesn’t get hounded online for this!

The next day, the queens do a push for registration for this year’s American elections and I don’t know if that’s going to work out for the US but it sure would be funny if the local drag queens did that here. Funny and tense because the fallout here would be…harsh.

The mini challenge involves them voting yearbook superlatives style for the other queens but unlike other mini challenges, this one doesn’t just come with a $2,500 cash prize, it also comes with a Beautiful Benfactress Badge, which Shannel is for sure eyeing. And wouldn’t you know it Shannel didn’t even win this one. They really want her to crack.

This week’s Maxi Challenge is the roast, and Jorgeous gets the additional benefit of getting to decide what the order of the roast is going to be. Hear that Drag Race France? Make the mini challenges matter!

Unlike Angeria, Jorgeous is totally looking to hobble Nina’s chances at getting another badge by putting her last. She says so in the confessionals, there’s nothing fake about it! And Nina, despite being funny, admits that stand-up comedy and roasting is an entirely different thing from what she does.

Jorgeous is going into this challenge taking up the advice Ru gave her in the previous episode and…I don’t know if it’s going to work out for her. Ru may find it funny but will it translate to the screen? We might get another Jorgeous napkin situation where she gets the win but everybody else doesn’t understand why.

Nina, at least, is aware that Jorgeous is playing strategically and tells her to her face that she’ll remember this moving forward in the competition. If she gets the Ruby Snippers, she’s heading directly for Jorgeous.

The queens get their roasts workshopped and it looks like the worst performers are going to be Jorgeous, Vanjie, and maybe Gottmik? That Glee joke didn’t really land during the rehearsal. Angeria also didn’t do all too well during the rehearsals and I hope Michelle Visage’s pep talk gives her the boost she needed.

And then we get Plastique getting hit on by Ruta Lee and girl, we understand. But Plastique immediately gets a reality check when her jokes fall flat. Like flat. Like Central Luzon flat. She does have a lightbulb moment in the end and decides to play a character to channel the funny that made her win in the previous episode.

Nina, however, looks like she’s being primed to win this episode. Both Michelle and Ruta laugh and I laughed while watching as well. But this could just be editing making the viewers feel complacent and we end up with Jorgeous winning everything!

While the queens are getting ready for the roast Roxxxy tries to divert attention away from her and her four badges and remind everyone that they could also look to the next challenge when they’re determining who they’re going to cut. Nina agress, saying that they’re just halfway through the competition and I’m like…this is going to be 12 episodes?

The roast starts and Bob the Drag Queen opens it with an invocation??? I want Bob to show up in an All Stars season but I didn’t expect it would be this way! And she was hilarious can’t wait to see her compete again if she wants to compete.

Shannel does well as an opening act! Was it uproariously funny? I wouldn’t say that. But she got a couple of laughs out of me! And Jorgeous was surprisingly funny! That butch drag really does help make everything funnier.

Plastique is up and that T in LGBT joke? I screamed. The vagina joke was also funny. And the Michelle’s vagina = RuPaul joke? I screamed again. But I feel like the whole set would have been more impactful if she wasn’t reading it all from her cards? Like at least look at the audience more? Just a non-comics opinion!

Roxxxy did so much better than her previous roast performances and I laughed at that Ru not remembering names joke. But she definitely isn’t going to be on the top for this episode. I laughed at Vanjie burping Jorgeous joke but a lot of the other jokes felt too personal? I mean I think they can do it to each other since they’re close enough but I felt awkward about some of them.

Angeria’s jokes were also funny but nothing that made me scream? I can’t articulate it well but they were funny but not funny funny. Maybe the service animal one approached that level a bit? I felt the same about Gottmik’s set.

Nina had a slow start but she got there eventually! Especially when she started taking shots at Jorgeous. And the Vanjie washing machine joke was hilarious.

The Atomic Blonde runway is…okay? I dunno, it kind felt repetitive? Jorgeous, Plastique, and — I can’t believe I’m saying this — Nina’s looks were probably the only ones that stood out? Because it was the only ones that didn’t interpret post-apocalyptic the same way?

Ru announces that the top two are Angeria and Plastique and I guess I’m okay with that. Plastique really was so funny this episode and the rest of the cast were pretty much equal. And I think Angeria pretty much won that lip sync because Plastique didn’t know the words. But I gotta be honest, this wasn’t a memorable lip sync. In fact, none of the past few episodes lip syncs haven’t been any good.

Angeria decides to snip Roxxxy and really, what other choice did she have? Roxxxy’s the frontrunner!
