Ron Watches Drag Race France Season 3 Episode 5

I chose to go with this one becayse Drag Race France doesn’t have enough oline promo 😦

It’s the freaking weekend baby I’m gonna…watch some more drag.

Let’s dig right into the newest episode of Drag Race France!

Nobody went home in the previous episode, and Leona Winter finally got herself a win…with the same challenge where Keiona got her first win in the previous season. HMMMMM. Is Leona being set up as the winner? And since we’re talking about Keiona let’s take a look back at gorgeous outfit she wore when she won in the episode.

Anyways, the queens return from the Maxi Challenge pretty happy because none of them had to go home. Le Filip concedes that Leona Winter won the lip sync, but the next week is going to be hers to win for sure. Personally, I think somebody should have gone home from the previous episode but they didn’t want to give Le Filip a win, sue me.

Today’s inconsequential mini challenge is the reading challenge and first up is Ruby On The Nail who delivers an actually funny read with that archaeology bit with Le Filip. Lula Strega is also definitely not as shy as she was in the first episode because that Ruby On The Nail read was funny and cutting!

Le Filip, however, lands the most reads and it’s no surprise that she wins this mini challenge. Which really doesn’t matter because there’s no benefit to winning mini challenges in Drag Race France.

Nicky then announces that the Maxi Challenge this week is Snatch Game and we get the requisite explanation to any straight people watching what Snatch Game is. Norma Bell then goes into a slight panic as it turns out one of the guests is the person she plans to do on Snatch Game. Is this the episode where we say goodbye to Norma?

The Werk Room discussion seems to be adding fuel to that fire, because they keep pushing Norma to do Cristina Cordula — the guest — as her Snatch Game character. Norma, you in danger girl.

Snatch Game starts and I gotta say, watching Drag Race España and Drag Race Italia has really given me a bit of an edge because I already know who La Veneno is! Drag Race, expanding your mind!

While I know who La Veneno is, I haven’t watched a lot of media with her in it, so I don’t know how accurate Perseo’s performance is. But she got a laugh from me anyway! I don’t know Lolo Ferrari and her ginormous jugs — I think this is Misty Phoenix’s character? — but I also found her funny as well. But as usual, when it comes to international Drag Race Snatch Games, I don’t immediately think the others are unfunny. It may just be that I lack the cultural context that makes what they’re saying funny. But the Lola jokes were universal enough to understand, even without the cultural context.

BUT THEN. Drag Race France spices things up a little when that glittery pink phone rings again and the queens are tasked to come up with another character in an hour. DAMN. That’s an All Stars challenge.

While we’re talking All Stars Snatch Game let’s bring back Jinkx Monsoon’s Judy Garland.

While they’re preparing their new character, Misty Phoenix — she was Lolo Ferrari! — is feeling good about her performance while Le Filip isn’t so sure about her Dalida, which just show how much I’m missing because I don’t speak the language. Le Filip wasn’t killing it but I thought she got a few good jokes in!

Lula Strega is another one who doesn’t feel good about her performance and…I gotta agree. I didn’t find a lot of her jokes funny and maybe they weren’t funny in the original language as well because the other queens aren’t exactly telling her “No, you were okay!”

The second half happens and it’s crazy how there’s all this conversation about Katy Perry online and Perseo does her as a Snatch Game character. The gays control the media, y’all.

BUT THE ONE THING THAT REALLY GAGGED ME AND HAD ME SCREAMING WAS RUBY ON THE NAIL’S ISABELLE ADJANI GOING “You’re not ugly, you’re just Isabelle Huppert.” DAMN. And then Ruby On The Nail’s Isabelle Adjani imitating Isabelle Huppert? FUCK.

Also since I interviewed Isabelle Huppert a bajillion years ago when she was here in the Philippines, does that mean I’m one degree of separation away from Drag Race France? DAMN.

As they prepare for the runway the next day, it’s Le Filip who gets the focus as she talks about her alcohol and drug addiciton and how her friends have been dying all around her. It’s a heartbreaking story that also makes me fear that she’s the one going home this week. Oh Le Filip, production really didn’t like you, I guess.

The runway theme this episode is Big Bad and Leona Winter enters with a bang and a big ol’ dragon skull on her head. Great first impression! Meanwhile, Lula Strega is my personal villain because she enters as the villain that terrorized her childhood, the Other Mother from Coraline. I was already old when Coraline came out; the only thing holding me together now is ash and spite.

And then Ruby On The Nail practically ensures her win this episode with that Nosferatu look. How hilarious was it when she suddenly does the fashion walk after the Nosferatu entrance? That’s carried over in the judges critiques, where they just love her.

As for the bottom two, it’s definitely Le Filip and maybe…Norma Bell? But befoer we find that out the queens are asked the “Who should go home and why?” question and it really does look like it’s going to be Le Filip and Norma Bell.

To no one’s surprise, it’s Ruby On The Nail bringing home th €1,000 this episode. That Isabelle Adjani really was funny and the only performance that literally made me scream. Also to no one’s surprise, it’s Norma Bell and Le Filip in the bottom and I truly believe that this is Le Filip’s farewell episode. They already foreshadowed it in the beginning!

And it’s Norma that goes home! Gotta say, those feathers really did end up hobbling her because she couldn’t do as much stuff like Le Filip did. Heartbreaking, but I think Le Filip did win that lip sync by a hair. Or a hand. Or hands. You get what I mean.
