Ron Watches Drag Race Mexico Season 2 Episode 2

I usually can’t do two episodes of Drag Race in one day — I start getting burnt out — but I’ve got a lot of things to do tomorrow so I’m doing this today rather than tomorrow.

Let’s watch the latest episode of Drag Race Mexico!

In the previous episode, we saw Elektra take the first win of the season and Ignus Ars be the first one to sashay away. And because I am a creature the moment Ava Pocket says that people will love Ignus’ OnlyFans even more I was immediately…wait what?

The next day, Elektra promises to do even better in the coming challenges in order to live up to her first win, which really just tells me that the production has got something planned for her this time around. It just happened on the latest episode of Drag Race France!

But we’ll worry about that later because today’s mini challenge is a Drag Race trivia challenge, with Shangela’s infamous sugar daddy speech even getting a special mention.

And what I like about this quiz is that it isn’t just about Drag Race US. It’s about the other international franchises as well. I’m impressed! This could have just been a USA-thon but they didn’t let it turn out that way.

Horacio ends up winning this mini challenge and since mini challenges in this franchise mean something unlike in Drag Race France, she gets to make the groups for this week’s Maxi Challenge, which is a dance battle. And because Horacio is a child in her 20s she picks all the young and pretty ones. Who also happen to be the best dancers, at least according to the other queens. I haven’t been following their work!

Horacio’s group decides on the name the C-U-N-T-S and bitch. It’s funny on its own but apparently it stands for we were all born fools so props to them! And they really do seem to be cunty just from the little bit of choreography that’s shown while Lolita is teaching them.

The other group is named Las Putitronicas and maybe there’s an inside joke there if you’re from Mexico but it doesn’t mean anything to me and they don’t explain it either. And the editing makes it very clear that they can’t keep up with Lolita’s choreography, especially Nina de la Fuente. Oh it’s going to be rough for her.

Nina talks with her drag daughter Garçonne the next day about how dancing was always an insecurity of hers because of how people told her she couldn’t do it and this could have been a touching conversation except I don’t think the start of it wasn’t edited well enough? It’s obvious that this was producer-prompted. And yes, I’m aware that the other franchises prompt these conversations as well but at least they edit it better so it’s not as obvious?

During the course of the conversation we also find out that Garçonne has diabetes and osteoporosis and my gosh the left turn this conversation took? Like at least the conversation from the latest episode of Drag Race France flowed much more organically? It’s a disservice to Garçonne because it’s such a moving story and it’s hobbled by the editing.

The dance challenge happens and…well it happened. And from what I could see and recognize, seems like Garçonne and Nina are going to be in trouble. Especially since they got the Werk Room focus today so that should pay off in some way.

The runway theme is “Silver Girls” and Horacio starts it off strong with her outfit. It was giving me Silverhawks in a good way for some reason!/

Elektra brings a great outfit to the runway again, reminding me a bit of that gorggeous silver gown that Manila Luzon wore in All Stars 4. Not as good as that, of course, but it was aiming for that glamor.

I also liked Ava Pocket’s blasphemous-lite look that was half Holy Virgin and half Jesus Christ. And her being silver all over really helped bring the fantasy to life, I have to admit.

Suculenta’s look…I dunno it felt so clunky and not just because of the scales. It felt like she was doing too much and to be frank I didn’t like the dress she revealed under the cover. Sue me.

Leexa Fox’s look is good but is immediately overshadowed by Jenary Bloom’s Game of Thrones-inspired look although I have to admit I didn’t immediately get that. What I thought it resembled was Emily Blunt’s character in that Huntsman movie.

I also liked Maria Bonita’s and Nina’s runway, and I couldn’t stop thinking baked potato couture about Unique’s outfit the moment Taiga Brava pounted it out. The shade of it all! Also did Luna just recycle the dragon head from episode 1? Or was that another queen? Or another franchise?

Garçonne is part of the safe girls and…oh Nina you in danger girl. BUT as the judges begin to talk it looks like it’s going to be Unique and Suculenta in the bottom and Suculenta has already been in those depths. I guess we know who’s going home now.

And now I guess we don’t know who’s going home because after Horacio’s announced as the winner the queens that end up in the bottom are Unique and Nina. The lip sync starts and quite frankly Nina looks to be at a disadvantage here. I also think that Unique did her wig reveal too early but Nina just looks like she’s floundering. ALSO Leexa Fox saying that Unique and Nina look like two old aunties fighting for some land? Bitch. The former Spanish colonies tea is hot.

As expected, Nina is sent home and I have to say I was moved by how devastated her drag daughters Suculenta and Garçonne were. Avenge your mother in future episodes!
