It’s Drag Race the day after again! And boy do I need this break after the week I’ve had. So I’ll stop with the dilly-dallying, fiddly-faddying and get right into it!
The queens have got the post-episode routine down now. Last episode‘s top queens, Roxxxy Andrews and Plastique Tiara, enter the Werk Room happily while the last queen to get snipped, Angeria Paris VanMichaels, gets an explanation from Roxxxy why she got snipped. And I gotta say I loved Angeria talking about how she and Roxxxy are scissor sisters at this point because of how many times they’ve been snipped.
With no more snipping in the next episodes, the queens talk about what’s going to happen now and the editing is foul for focusing on Shannel’s face when Nina talks about badges. They really want her to break!
Naturally, the discussion the next day is about badges and it’s a short discussion where Shannel doesn’t have much to contribute. Again, foul on the side of production. BUT…I have to admit I can’t wait to see her inevitable breakdown.
There’s no mini challenge this week and Ru immediately announces that they’re going to do a Rosemary’s Baby Rusical for the Maxi Challenege and I gotta say I haven’t watched Rosemary’s Baby yet but I do know it’s horror! So I wonder how they’re going to do it,
But the real news is that the top two queens this week will get two badges — one to keep and one to give away. Watch Nina win the Maxi Challenge this week and not give one to Shannel again.
Gottmik is excited to do it since there is that obvious connection between horror and the queer experience, while Roxxxy is curious about which one of the queens has already done a Rusical. Shannel has never done one and Jorgeous gets a special talking head about how she was gagged that she was at the bottom during the Rusical for her season. So maybe she gets the top spot this episode!
As it is with Rusicals, the cast of characters are all parodies of whatever’s popular at the moment. Or more accurately what was popular the time this was filmed — which is either good or bad depending on how this was written. Your mileage may vary basically!
Where the conflict usually comes for the Rusical is in the role picking, and it looks like everything goes swimmingly until it comes to the role of Doctor Poltergeist, which both Nina and Angeria want. And as has been the case for most seasons of Drag Race now, they leave the casting to chance and this time around they opt for picking a name out of a hat, with Nina emerging victorious. Honestly, I couldn’t understand why Angeria was insisting it go to her. You’re already ahead and there’s no snipping!
They get to recording and Shannel is up first and I don’t know if they’re just playing a cruel joke on her or its just my lack of knowledge about music but Michelle says Shannel’s got a voice in there. Which…okay.
Nina, having spent a lot of time on Broadway and it featuring heavily in her talking heads and promo material heading into the show, performs spectacularly during the recording session.Angeria is…miffed, is the word I think.
And maybe she does have reason to be miffed because the character she ended up getting…she’s not getting. She gets I think the most notes from Michelle Visage? Although I have to say that it’s hard to make heads or tails of Michelle’s notes because she tells people who I think aren’t doing well that they are doing well so maybe I am just in the Upside Down.
Vanjie is another one of the queens who seems to be struggling in this challenge, and all because of one word. Which quire honestly I feel like they could have just let go since it doesn’t radically change the song the way letting Mercedes Iman Diamond say OPALENCE would.
It’s a totally different situation when it comes to choreography practice. The roles are reversed — Vanjie is killing it while Nina can barelt catch up. So maybe it’s not a foregone conclusion that Nina’s gonna win! What we can safely conclude though is that Shannel’s not going to win either, because production is just mean like that.
And they’re already setting the stage for yet another Shannel non-win because she is struggling with the choreography assigned to her. Whatever confidence she gained from her time with Michelle? Completely decimated.
The Rusical stars and while I honestly did not like Plastique’s voice when she was recording that body though. I think I’m ovulating! And you know what? When the monsters started streaming in? I was laughing so hard this might actually be a Rusical I truly enjoy! Sorry Drag Race France! Also give Miss Monica Beverly Hillz a check for “Not A Soul Can Clock”!
Everybody’s feeling great and Shannel even gets an individual talking head where she talks about the talk she had with Ru in the previous episode. Which either means she could place in the top this episode or that the production thinks she hasn’t been broken yet and that they need to twist the knife more.
Pearls are the theme for the runway this week and honestly? Shannel’s look was great for me. I found Plastique’s great as well but I thought it was a little too Cardi B? Gottmik’s was so great as well. Actually, I think everybody looked really great!
And during the judges critiques, Shannel got some really great feedback as well. OH MY GOD IS THIS GOING TO BE THE DAY SHANNEL WINS A CHALLENGE? BUT IMAGINE THE GAGGERY IF SHE STILL DOESN’T WIN?
AND SHANNEL FINALLY WINS A BADGE. OMG. LIKE I FEEL LIKE SHE SHOULD CRY SO THAT RU CONTINUES TO MILK IT FOR THE SHOW AND PUSHES HER TO TO THE TOP BUT OMG?!?!?!?!
AND THE LIP SYNC IS A TIE? AND JORGEOUS GIVES SHANNEL ANOTHER BADGE? OMG?
