You know that I’m really into this show because I am taking every bit of free time that I have to catch up with it so that I am on the same page as everyone once the new episodes drop on the 23rd. Let’s go!
The previous episode left us with a cliffhanger: Who will Kazuto go on a sleepover date with? He does have three options after all. AND HE GOES WITH ALAN! I mean, first to make a move wins! Thems the breaks Ryota and Usak.
And the production does the same thing it did with the Shun and Dai date because that’s it. Only Kazuto and Alan are going on a sleepover date. I bet Dai is frustrated but also even more interested in Shun now. Although you wouldn’t have been able to tell from the snippets production showed. It looked like everything is done.
Dai goes back to his room and says he can’t understand Shun while Usak starts to write something on a tablet. Ryota is back in his room and saying that he wanted to go on that overnight date especially since overnight means “that” and we all know what “that” means.
Dai finally gets up from sulking and asks to talk with Shun in the dining room where he just ask point blank what the fucking deal is. Of course, in a much nicer way but I’m just interpreting the undertones. Shun then says that Dai really doesn’t have a darkness to him and I am guessing this has more nuance in the original Japanese because to me it just sounds like Shun wants Dai to have some angst? BUT LIKE I SAID THE EXPRESSION HE USED COULD HAVE MORE NUANCE IN THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE.
What I’m getting from the conversation is that Shun wants to date someone who’s as moody as he is and…well you like what you like I guess? Because so far the only thing that has been exhausting me between these two is Shun. But at least Shun is finally putting some punctuation to this relationship and saying they’re better off as friends.
Ryota and Usak, the two guys Kazuto rejected, lick their wounds by the pool and wish that the overnight date involves two twin beds and not a double bed. Oh guys, have you not heard of throuples or polycules? We can make this work!
Meanwhile, Kazuto and Alan arrive at the date venue and it’s two beds but they’re right next to each other. Also there’s a tub. Will they be in the tub at the same time? Questions that need answers! But before we get to that, look at Alan twerking.
Over dinner, Alan tells Kazuto about his childhood and I’m surprised to find out that Alan hasn’t actually been to Brazil, even if he identifies culturally with it. I honestly thought he at least spent some time there as an adult. Staying there as a one-year-old doesn’t count, I think.
Alan then tells a story about how his father was arrested for…something? he doesn’t really say…and how he’s been the man of the house since. He’d talk about how a lot of times, they wouldn’t have food in the house and he and his sister would visit their neighbors and eat dinner with them instead. Kazuto is pretty quiet throughout most of this but based from what we know about his own family issues maybe he relates or at least understands what Alan is talking about.
And I guess he sorta does? Because out on the balcony while they drink beer Kazuto says that he could sense that Alan’s brightness was to hide something dark, which….yeah, it was!
We then get to see Kazuto and Alan in the bath and…this is more nudity than I expected??? Alan’s got a towel down there so we’re good but I thought this was going to be shot with a wide lens and not as close as this. NOT THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH NUDITY CONSIDERING SOME OF THE THIGNS I WATCH. I just didn’t expect it from this show!
The MALICIOUS GAY FAGGOTRY starts as Alan and Kazuto start talking about what they physically like in guys, with Alan saying he likes men with a kind face and muscles and then said Kazuto is like that if he looks in a mirror and…THE MALICIOUS GAY FAGGOTRY IS OVERFLOWING.
Kazuto says he’s going to wash off and tells Alan to stay in the sauna to which Alan suggests that they wash each other and I say why not we’ve started the MALICIOUS GAY FAGGOTRY let’s keep it going but Kazuto values propriety and keeps it primp and proper like the Japanese intended.
Back at the Green Room, Ryota is checking his phone waiting to see if Kazuto has read the text message that he’s sent. Usak is in his room drawing. And back at the hotel Kazuto is asking Alan why he’s being seductive. Oh Ryota and Usak, I think you’ve lost this battle. Like…Kazuto and Alan are doing crotch grabs at the hotel. It’s time to throw in the towel.
AND THEN ALAN SUGGESTS A MASSAGE AND SAYS KAZUTO SHOULD BE IN HIS UNDERWEAR AND I HAVE WATCHED THIS PORNO YES I HAVE. The MALICIOUS GAY FAGGOTRY needs to stop…being cut off by the censors come on let’s get into it.
The next day the guys are saying that Kazuto and Alan will probably be coming back from the overnight date with big smiles on their faces and if there’s anything that reality TV has taught me is that the opposite is what’s going to happen. Maybe Alan pushes too hard and turns Kazuto off? The panel certainly suggested it.
I can’t immediately discern if the date was a disaster or not, but Usak is certainly asking a lot of questions and Alan is definitely answering all of them, no hesitation. Usak, dearie, don’t ask question you don’t want to hear the answer to.
Meanwhile, Ryota and Kazuto have a conversation by the coffee truck and Kazuto admits that the date with Alan actually got him more confused. I really do think that Alan’s straightforwardness may be a little too much to handle for the other guys. AND KAZUTO AGREES WITH ME IN THE CONFESSIONALS. He wasn’t ready for the skinship yet and to Alan that amount of touching was probably nothing. And now he also tells Ryota that maybe he should also stop asking him to talk in clandestine locations as well. So Usak may just win without doing anything? Like the panel suggests?
The guys are told that they get to decide who takes the coffee shift today and Usak immediately volunteers and says that he wants to partner with Kazuto. What does it feel like to be God’s favorite, Kazuto? Three men vying for your attention!
At the end of Kazuto and Usak’s seemingly chill shift they end up with ¥10,700 and truly just for the amount of money he always manages to bring home I would pick Kazuto over any of the other guys.
As they do the post-mortem of their work day, Usak says he wants to tell Kazuto something and that something is that he’s always been impressed by Kazuto’s work ethic and cooking skill. AND THEN HE TELLS KAZUTO THAT HE’S LEAVING. DAMN. He says he went into the Green Room to find someone he likes and then tell that person how he feels and now that he’s done that he’s ready to go. I GUESS I CALLED IT TOO EARLY BECAUSE USAK MAY HAVE JUST WON THIS BATTLE.
Before he leaves, Usak says that the Green Room gives them all a chance to say something that they may not be able to say outside of it, and I feel like this is the motivation that some of the guys (Dai) need to push even harder for what they want.
Outside of that though, isn’t it so nice to see these men cry? It’s so refreshing and beautiful and really we should stop with all the toxic men shouldn’t cry thinking because it’s stupid and toxic.
Dinner is a little subdued, understandably, which is broken up by the beautiful drawings that Usak left in the logbook. A go-go boy who’s good at art? He’s a manga hero! He’s an AO3 tag!
