The finish line is just around the corner and we’re going to find out who wins this charity season by the next episode. It’s another season of Drag Race down — with several more premiering to take it’s place. But that’s a discussion for another time!
Last week’s episode saw Roxxxy Andrews become the frontrunner of this season as she wins yet another badge, upping her count to five. Is there still a way for some of the other queens to catch up? Ru’s been saying in the past few episodes that there is, but there probably isn’t.
Either way, the queens are happy because it’s the finale week and they can finally go home and take a rest maybe. But before they get to do that, they have to deal with the big furry box on the Werk Room table, something that has never been there before as Angeria points out.
Turns out it’s an easy way for them to win money for their charity! They just need to do some of the tasks in the box and they get $1,500. Nina is tasked do an impression three of the queens and she DELIVERS with great Vanjie, Gottmik, and Roxxxy impersonations. She’s now raised $6,500 for The Trevor Project which is great!
The rest of the queens do some stupid shit to get an additional $1,500 for their charities and that’s great and all but I gotta say it was only Nina West who really delivered for me. But it’s for charity so fine. And it’ll probably be a tax thing for somebody anyway.
Ru finally comes in and tells them their last mini challenge for the season: turn the crew into a Ru Girl. Oh Wintergreen they’ll never be you.
And these people will never be Wintergreen because the queens have only been given 30 minutes to drag them up! That’s not enough time! But we do get to know a little bit more about the staff behind the scenes and how long some of them have been working there. Some of them have been there since Season 5!
And you know what, given the time constraints, Gottmik’s drag daughter looks great! Shannel’s daughter looks great too, given the time constraints, but I feel like it’s not draggy enough? But then again who am I to speak I can’t even spend an hour in heels because my feet start hurting!
Roxxxy…did the best she could but it’s immediately overshadowed by Angeria’s work with her drag daughter. Of course, she may have been assisted by the fact that the crew member she got was a lot younger and probably has a better canvas to paint on, as Katya would say.
Tooda West is also spectacular, although that may also be in part to the crew members sunny personality. Not that the drag was bad, of course, but let’s be honest, it’s not as fashion as Plastique’s or Gottmik’s. But the fashion of those two was a little toned down by the crew members not being as comfortable with performing.
Somebody who was definitely ready to perform was Jorgeous’ drag daughter Justine because damn. She was really feeling it and somehow the dress with a wet stain on it matched perfectly with the vibe she wanted to give off? Like that dress isn’t going to be any best of lists but it was perfect.
Everybody wins the mini challenge and we swiftly move on to this week’s Maxi Challenge, which is a variety show where the queens not only get to showcase their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, they also have the chance to win three badges. As Shannel points out in the confessionals, she definitely still has a chance to get into the finale. But then Ru teases another twist that isn’t expounded on and of course the queens are on tenterhooks.
We get a shot of Shannel practicing juggling and I cannot WAIT for her to do that on the runway again. I tried to look for video of it on YouTube but the closest I could find was from a compilation video of all the Drag Race trailers.
Angeria is going to do an original show and…well, that’s always a little risky. But maybe not as risky as Gottmik not really having experience of competing in a talent show since they didn’t have that on her season. But she’s going to be dancing and playing the guitar!
The Tic Tac conversations start and I fell like Shannel is for sure going to the finale because not only does she credit Ru for her breakthrough in the competition, she also cries while talking with Ru. Cries very emotionally! I bet Ru loved that.
Angeria…I dunno, Ru keeps talking up her possible entertainment career and it’s like he’s setting her up to be not disappointed that she didn’t get into the finale? Because look you’re meant for other things! At least that’s how it came off to me.
Another queen that I feel like’s going to make it to the finale just from the Tic Tac conversation is Gottmik because Ru is already planning on stealing her “Get into it or get lost” catchphrase. Roxxxy also looks like she’s going to get into the finale as she has another breakdown in front of Ru because another maternal figure in her life abandoned her. She really can’t catch a break when it comes to her family.
Back at the Werk Room, there’s…lesbianism happening? Gottmik is talking about the possibility of being attracted to Vanjie and is this Vanjie’s assigned role in Drag Race now? To always be involved in a showmance? And didn’t she have that dating show on WowPresentsPlus as well?
And then we finally get the twist Ru teased at the start of the episode. TS Madison tells the queens that they need to vote for someone to received the double diamond, which doubles the badges they have. And of course they can’t vote for themselves.
So this is why they showed that whole Gottmik-Vanjie thing because now Gottmik has to choose between Vanjie and Nina since they have the least amount of badges. But after talking herself through it Gottmik eventually picks Nina.
We don’t get to see the other queens’ votes until we get to Roxxxy, who votes for Nina since Nina did give her a badge in a previous episode. Jorgeous, meanwhile, votes for Plastique since she believes that she’s slayed every challenge this season. Plastique, on the other hand, votes for Roxxxy, and so does Nina West which just tells me that Roxxxy is going to win this thing. That’s already two votes for her! Also I did not understand Nina’s math but I’ve never been good at math so that’s not surprising to me.
