Again, I’ve been playing catch up with the Drag Race franchises this week. I still have errands to run today and I’m squeezing in the time to watch the latest episode of Drag Race France before I have to go out and run some errands again.
We saw Misty Phoenix go home in the previous episode, although to be quite frank I think both her and Leona Winter should have gone home. That lip sync was…not good.
Anyway, we have Lula Strega, Ruby On The Nail, Le Filip, and Leon Winter in the finale. But before we do that we get the returning queens of the season! Magnetica really was a lost opportunity for the show because I like her finale look! I wonder what else she could have showcased if she stayed.
All the other queens look beautiful as well…but they really didn’t stray far away from what they already showcased on the show, if that makes sense? I feel like the finale is the opportunity for the queens to really show their drag at its draggiest and I feel like they didn’t take that opportunity. Thankfully, the top four got the memo and really amped up their finale looks.
Then we get Nicky doing her Ru on with a musical number where, just like Ru, she doesn’t do much. Truly the dream! That said, I feel like Drag Race France really became its own thing and I love how they have their own expressions now like “legendary”.
Now I don’t speak French, but I could have sworn that Kiddy Smile said Paloma’s name during his little speech but the subtitles didn’t include her name. Is there drama there, hmmm, hmmm? Although probably it’s nothing malicious and the translator just missed. Don’t subscribe to malice what you can attribute to incompetence!
It’s going to be a lip sync performance determining the winner of this season of Drag Race France and I guess it’s time to say goodbye to Le Filip now because I don’t think she’s the best one at that. She’s up first to perform as well and…it was okay! A winning lip sync? I don’t think so. I’d still watch that Bel Ami video if it ever comes out!
Up next is Lula Strega, who’s really only had an upward trajectory since the first episode. Feel like she’s going to be in the final two up against maybe Leona Winter? I feel like Leona Winter’s being pushed to win. She starts her lip sync performance and…how late were these songs given to the queens? I feel like they weren’t given any time to rehearse because this is the second whelming lip sync in a row. Lula does cry after the performance so that may give her a leg up.
We get a small reunion with the eliminated queens but if I’m being honest the highlight for me was the surprise appearance of Jan and Jackie Cox from Season 12. What a pleasant surprise!
And furthering my theory that Leona is being pushed to win, she gets the musical performance that really leans into her strengths and actually stands out from the other two performances. Rigga Morris girl. Rigga Morris.
And then of course Leona says that she found out she was HIV-positive right before filming the show. Thanks Leona now I feel bad. But come on, now she’s a shoo-in to win. HIV-positive queen winning the crown? Imagine the articles.
Ruby has I think the strongest non-Leona performance but I was kinda morose watching it because they practically handed the crown to Leona with everything that went down during her segment. Leona even had the sad background music!
We get another performance from the queens and the announcement of their tour before we get to the awarding of the Miss Congeniality of the season. Moon is awarding it and boy that look is great. And apparently it was inspired by Aaliyah from Queen of the Damned!
Norma Bell gets it this season and deserved, I feel! But now that’s done let’s get to which one from the top four is headed to the final two lip sync! But before that we get a little gag about the pink telephone but really that pink telephone was one of the great things about this season of Drag Race France. That phone really made it different from the other seasons and actually made the episode more exciting!
And we get Le Filip and Ruby On The Nail for the final lip sync! Oh my goodness I did not expect that! Fully thought they were going to hand over the crown to Leona Winter. I guess I shouldn’t jump immediately to conclusions!
We get to the final lip sync and Le Filip is dressed like a Stepford Wife and Ruby On The Nail is like a witch from that Nicole Kidman version of His Dark Materials. They perform to Celine Dion’s “I’m Alive” which I have to admit isn’t the best song to get the crowd going but Le Filip’s multiple dress changes was a lot more attention-grabbing than Ruby’s tricks. Was the lip sync as a whole a great showcase for both the queens? Meh.
Keiona comes in with her step-down look which is deceptively simple but this is the reason why black is a staple in the fashion industry. Keiona looks so sleek and elegant in it and the gold around her neck is a nice touch. Along with that wig and that butt crack? She looked gorge.
And this season’s winner is Le Filip! Congratulations on France’s Next Drag Superstar!
