I know, I know this is extremely late. I was meaning to watch this episode yesterday but I literally had no internet connection the whole day yesterday. But now the internet’s back and I can finally catch up!
Garçonne took the L in the previous episode while Unique gets to slay another day. Of course she’s sad that Garçonne’s gone and she hopes that she’ll make some clothes for her in the future. One of the queens does point out that Uniques has been getting rid of the de la Fuente family andf hmmmm. That’s interesting.
The next day, Jenary Bloom walks in with a spring in her step because she’s now one of the pinned girls. But we quickly gloss over that as Taiga and Lolita walk in to announce that this episode is going to be the Snatch Game episode.
I really don’t mean to harp on this about Drag Race Mexico but why don’t they ever film better transitions in between scenes? When Taiga comes in to deliver a twist new contestant in the form of drag queen Turbulence — who we already know is a guest judge from the show’s opening — the queens are sitting all in a row, perfectly blocked and “working” on nondescript wigs. It’s really making the whole production look “produced”. There’s not even a fake sheen of “organic”.
Anways, Turbulence and Burrita Burrona look like they’re a lot of fun and they’re there not just to guest judge but to give advice to the queens about Snatch Game. At least from the footage that we’re shown, it looks like they were helpful!
Snatch Game starts and I have to say, this is the most amount of male characters that I’ve seen on a Snatch Game in any of the franchises I’ve watched. Kennedy Davenport, the doors you’ve opened.
Snatch Game starts and let’s just say Elektra didn’t exactly start with a bang. We have yet another La Veneno but this one is definitely better than Perseo’s on Drag Race France. Apologies to the queen though because I can’t tell who it is!
Luna Lansman’s José José starts out strong though and is really a testament that with the right drag queen, any Snatch Game performance can be funny even if an international audience doesn’t get the cultural specifics. I don’t know who José José is but Luna’s given me a great window in to understanding the jokes — José José is your drunk uncle.
I think the funniest thing about Eva Blunt’s Jesus Christ is how everybody else is doing the Sign of the Cross just to hopefully not get some of the backlash because as far as I know Mexico is still very much Catholic like the Philippines.
As the Snatch Game progresses it really looks like Elektra is going to have to lip sync this episode. Any queen she interacts with immediately overshadows her own performance, and Luna Lansman’s José José really is just dominating.
Another queen that’s probably gonna lip sync is Horacio because the confessionals say she’s floundering and even Horacio herself is saying she’s run out of jokes to tell. We’re finally going to see if Horacio can actually perform!
Ava Pocket’s Paulina Rubio is also a disaster. When Burrita, a queen in a literal donkey suit, is out-funnying you? You in danger girl.
Luna Lansman’s José José really looks like it’s going to be a top performance and I actually had a full-on laugh when I googled who Rafael Inclan is. The shade of it all! I fully understood why everybody else was laughing at that.
The theme for the runway is “Anti-System” and…well the first two outfits out are cyberpunk creations. It’s not that it’s bad but it’s exactly what I thought they would come out with? I just wanted to be surprised! In fact, the girls that were up next pretty much follow the same template and…I miss the first season runways.
And then we get the second half of the runway and I like the interpretation of these queens better. Unique, for once, kinda lives up to her name as she comes out in something colorful. Her, Jenary Bloom, Eva Blunt, and Lexxa Fox rescue this runway with an interpretation of “Anti-System” that isn’t so obvious. I think this is the queer art Megami wanted us to protect.
Elektra also makes a good bookend to the runway because she chose an entirely different color scheme from everybody else but I don’t think this runway is good enough to save her from her bad Snatch Game performance.
No surprise, Luna Lansman wins this episode because she really did command that Snatch Game stage. Unique and Leexa are also safe, and now knowing who they plated, they definitely deserved those top placements as well.
As it turns out, Elektra’s great outfit doesn’t redeem her Snatch Game and it’s Ava Pocket and her in the bottom. Horacio squeaks out a safe placement which I guess I’m okay with? Honestly these bottom girls really did deserve the placement this time around.
The lip sync starts and at first I thought Ava had this in the bag BUT Elektra teaches us that the better reveals are the ones with perfect timing. I felt like Ava used all her moves immediately and she ended up not having another peak in the lip sync? No surprise that it’s Ava that ends up going home.
