Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 9 Episode 12

It’s the season finale! It’s another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars down and I can’t wait to see who brings home the crown! I swear!

The queens are being emotional on their last day, and Vanjie says in the confessionals that they’ve all developed bonds with each other, which I guess is unavoidable since none of them went home. We get a lot of shots of the queens crying to emphasize this.

As they start getting ready for their final talent performance, the queens talk about how ready they think they are for the final challenge. A lot of them are feeling good about where they are in the competition, especially Shannel who has had an upward trajectory in the past few episodes.

Angeria is also feeling pretty relaxed, pointing out that if there’s anything they should be confident about it should be what they do, which is whatever talent they’re going to be bringing to the main stage this episode.

While the girls are prepping for their show they get a visit for All Stars 6 winner Kylie Sonique Love, who tells them that she did All Stars because she wanted to compete just for herself and not be in her head like she was in season 2. And Plastique ends up crying and Jorgeous is on the verge of crying and I guess Ru is going to come in next with their childhood photos? Now seems the correct time!

They also get a video call from Jimbo, who tells them she enjoyed everything they brought to the season and Vanjie tells her that they did better than Jimbo’s season and…I’m gonna have to agree. I didn’t even finish watching All Stars 8.

As they prepare for the variety show the queens do the requisite look back at the season. Usually this is done with just the top queens but since no one went home we get a lot more voices in the Werk Room reminiscing.

We also get a look back at some of the fashion and lemme just bring up that gallery of Plastique ball outfits that I did because those outfits were fantastic.

The queens also talk about the Double Diamond and what went into their decisions on who to vote. It also gives Roxxxy an opportunity to talk about how it doesn’t make her feel safe at all because with it this week’s challenge could make anybody a part of the top three.

Angeria’s up first for the talent competition and that “You ugly bitch” line still hits it was the part of the song that made me laugh the most. I also thought Gottmik’s number was okay but it immediately becomes apparent that the sheer number of participants makes it hard for any of the queens to fully let loose.

But Jorgeous definitely tried her damndest to make that short performance time count! I thought it was a good performance as well but that final slide across the runway? DAMNNNN.

Plastique’s performance was…I hate to say it. Mid? Ot maybe she didn’t have enough time? I don’t know it just felt so much less than what I expected it to be. It’s the burden of high expectations.

I’m sorry I immediately tuned out from Nina’s first line. All drag is valid but this isn’t the drag I’m into. I can watch a Disney movie if I wanted something like this.

Roxxxy does a pretty good callback to her burlesque performance from All Stars 2 but I gotta admit it was immediately overshadowed by Shannel’s juggling act. Sorry but I really was impressed! Also Gottmik was smoking when they cut to her during Shannel’s act.

I thought Vanjie’s performance on it’s own was just okay but what really pushed it over the edge was the self-awareness and the constant jabs at Michelle.

We get to the runways and Gottmik’s look, wow. She doesn’t have it on her Instagram yet or maybe won’t even put it up but it’s gorgeous. And Plastique? She was definitely serving amped up Vietnamese culture and that would have been right at home in an anime or a MMORPG.

And Nina’s was…well the bottom part could have been better. It didn’t help her that Roxxxy was after her and Roxxxy in that golden look? Chef’s kiss. Shannel’s sparkly flapper dress? Also chef’s kiss. Miss Vanjie is, as Trixie always points out in the Pit Stop, consistently hoochie.

Angie and Vanjie — that’s a comedy duo name if I ever heard one — are in the top two. Angeria is at the top of the leaderboard with six badges! Nina wins the Double Diamond but it’s not enough to get her into the top three since Roxxxy has five badges and Nina only has four in total. It’s not so bad though because everyone who didn’t make it to the top three got $5,000 for their charity! That’s spectacular!

The final lip sync is to Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and…well…it happened, I guess. Honestly, I was let down by all three of them especially since it’s Janet Jackson! I expected more! It’s not like it’s a ballad or something! It’s “Rhythm Nation”!

And Angeria wins! Just as good a choice as any, considering the final lip sync I guess. And Vanjie and Roxxxy get an extra $25,000 for their charity! I think that’s all right!
