Your Week In Books #2

San Diego Comic Con is ongoing right now so obviously there’s a lot of news coming out from there. But that’s not all the book news coming out!

Marvel at San Diego Comic Con

Of course, the biggest news is that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom, with both Reuters and the Associated Press picking it up. Both articles also do a good job of recapping the whole Marvel Hall H presentation, which includes updates on Thunderbolts*, Captain America: Brave New World, Fantastic Four First Steps, Avengers : Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Vampire Lestat

Anybody who knew me in my distant childhood knows that I ate up Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles like Goldilocks polvoron. The old big ones wrapped in golden cellophane not the teeny tiny ones they have now. I’ve also watched the 1994 Interview with the Vampire an ungodly amount of times. I can almost quote that “It’s a coffin!” scene line-by-line.

All of which to say that I really loved this The Vampire Lestat teaser that AMC released after the cast’s time at San Diego Comic Con.

The Book of Elsewhere

I don’t have a copy of it, but Keanu Reeves has been making the rounds for his new book with China Mieville, The Book of Elsewhere. There’s an interview about the new book in People where he talks about how the collaboration came about and how they’re both mutual fans of each other. Keanu also talked about the book on Colbert.

Kamala Harris memoir

I’m sure everyone else and their mother are very much aware that the United States is going to be voting a new president and that there’s been a whole shake-up in the candidates. Kamala Harris is running against Trump and hopefully the fact that her memoir is topping multiple Amazon lists means that she’s going to win because I honestly cannot handle another Trump presidency. The world’s going to end but let’s not speed it up, ya know?

Krysten Ritter’s new novel

Sorta Marvel related? Former Jessica Jones Krysten Ritter is writing her second novel with writer Lindsay Jamieson, who’s had a short story published in the anthology The Dark Waves of Winter. People has got a summary of the book as well as a quote from Krysten, who says she’s “always been into complex and layered female characters and wanted to explore the perspective of a con artist”.
