Ron Watches Drag Race Philippines Season 3 Episode 2

It’s another episode of Drag Race Philippines! This new season had a strong start, with immediately memorable and controversial queens, as any Filipino Drag Race fan would know by now considering the days-long drama the premiere unleashed on Twitter. Let’s see if this new episode does the same!

Nobody went home in the previous episode, so during the post-mortem at the start of the episode Zymba shares that the lip sync — and what a lip sync it was! — was enjoyable since she didn’t have to send anyone home. She also says that she isn’t aiming to win anything just yet and then we get a nasty supercut of all the times she’s said she wanted to win in just the first episode. Did we get the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 2 story producers for this season because this is so reminiscent of that Raven supercut.

We also get a resolution to the whole Versex-Khianna fight from the previous episode, a fight that really set the Filipino Twitterverse alight, and that’s putting it mildly. The queens’ names trended, apologies had to be posted, someone used neurodivergence as an excuse it was crazy!

Khianna is still high from her win and she feels she can win another one and that the season is going ot be i-Khian-nic and if reality TV has taught me anything it is that an attitude likes this assures that you will be sent home either on this episode or the next.

The next day, the do the Alarma on Angel and I have to admit being an old gay and not knowing where this trend came from. Someone younger and more supple explain it to me!

Tita Baby perfectly encapsulates my humor now as she pleads to the other queens to not eliminate her as she doesn’t have long left in this world. I feel you girl!

Anyways, this week’s Maxi Challenge is the Ball, but before we get to that we get a tumbang preso-inspired mini challenge and THIS WAS MY JAM WHEN I WAS A KID.

Tumbang preso and the other games in this video were what I grew up with.

And they aren’t just going to play tumbang preso, they have to drag up their slippers too. The mini challenge is sponsored by Auro Chocolates and I am liking that they’re actually getting sponsorships now and not just from Kumu! Which is absent this season and there have been rumors as to why but that’s not the scope of this now isn’t it?

Anyways, Versex wins, proving she is the baklang kanal of the season! She gets P20,000 from Auro. I thought she’d get an advantage of some sort but apparently not?

The Ball starts and I am confused because apparently the outfits were already made? I thought they were going to make it. I know they’re told the categories before filming even starts but I just thought since it’s a Ball the category using unconventional materials would be something they make on the spot.

The queens walk the first category and I gotta say, considering you brought these outfits and didn’t make them on the spot…they’re kinda underwhelming. Or at least those queens who had underwhelming outfits really underwhelmed. I did like Maxie, John, Versex, and Myx Chanel’s looks though!

So maybe I should have been patient instead because here comes the unconventional materials that the girls need to make outfits from. They’re provided recyclable materials by the show and they have four hours to turn them into something. My god that timeline is horrific. Anyways, Versex gets a 10-second lead which really isn’t much.

Tita Baby scares me because she doesn’t get the fashion references and I’m afraid that the judges might critique her taste level. But at least she’s very open to admitting that the younger generation does have something to teach those that came before them.

Angel is another one that could be in trouble because she admits to not having any idea what to do. Maxie tries to look out for her literal sister but Angel just keeps scrapping whatever she’s started with and she really does look like she’s in trouble.

Rajo and Paolo arrive at the Werk Room for the walkthroughs and Khianna really looks like she’s going to get a reality check because Paolo and Rajo tell her that her gown needs a pop of color and she’s like…No. All the signs are pointing to a bottom placement

Rajo, to his credit, tries to give actual advice to Angel but it is hilarious how Angel does not get it all. Versex is given advice to heat up the CDs she’s using for her outfit and I worry if she’ll have the time? Anyways, after the walkthrough, Paolo makes it clear that someone will go home in tonight’s episode.

The next day, the “learning moment” sequence is about the now infamous “This is trash” comment from Rajo Laurel to Eva Le Queen.

We find out that Myx Chanel is actually Eva’s drag daughter and she’s looking to turn this into a Rudemption runway not for herself but for Eva. We’ll wait and see if she’s successful!

Angel is up first and…well she put some stuff on some other stuff! Tita Baby looks okay except for that spot right in the in-between space between her butthole and her balls where I can see the fabric that she didn’t cover with the material from the sack.

I don’t know what material Yudipota used but I think she was able to do a lot considering they only had four hours to make their outfits. Popstar Bench’s outfit looked unfinished while J Quinn’s actually didn’t look that bad…until her foot slips out of her shoe. Poor thing.

It looks like Khianna’s confidence was not misplaced because I actually think her look was pretty well done? I was giving most of the queen’s passes because of the limited time they had to make their outfits but for Khianna to come up with this one with the same time limit? It’s great!

Versex’s outfit…there wasn’t a lot of it! It was very Jorgeous’ napkin outfit.

Myx Chanel’s outfit was okay! Was it a Rudemption for Eva’s season one outfit? I dunno, but I also didn’t think Eva had to be criticized that harshly during her season.

What’s actually getting redeemed on this episode — or at least they’re trying to redeem — is Rajo Laurel. Does it work? Well, let’s say that some may disagree.

During the judges’ critiques, Angel is immediately posed with the question of whether she would rather see Maxie or herself go home. She chooses to send Maxie home while Maxie chooses to send herself home should that situation arise and does this mean that Maxie is going home this episode because she also just released a music video two days ago?

In fairness to Paolo, she does correctly observe that the sisters Angel and Maxie seem to just be working together rather than competing against each other. She also pointed out the similarity of the silhouettes. Maxie, as well as Tita Baby, got less than stellar reviews from the judges.

Khianna, on the other hand, looks to be on the top yet again as her work is compared to designer designers like Galliano. Versex, meanwhile, gets a more mixed reception, with her sari-sari look being critiqued while her runway look getting positive responses.

Myx Chanel gets the win this episode, since the judges loved that her two looks actually told a story when put together. Khianna and Yodipota were up there with her in the top. Which means Versex, Angel, and Tita Baby are the bottom queens since Maxie was already declared safe.

Versex is pronounced safe and its Tita Baby and Angel lip syncing to “Nosi Balasi” by Sampaguita. I think Tita Baby won this but I don’t know if the judges think the same! They do and Angel is sent home and we get a heartbreaking moment between Maxie and Angel. And then we get a fucking Kandy Muse situation where Angel is still kept in the show. How many episodes are we getting?
