It’s a new episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars! As you all know, I was unable to write about the first two episode because I attended Eva Le Queen’s viewing party. But I’m here watching the latest episode!
Episode two saw Vanity Vain winning $10,000 after defeating Eva in the lip sync. Tessa Testicle of Germany is already being shady in the confessionals, but to be fair she’s also being shady to the girls in their faces. Because I do agree that the lip syncs were…not the best.
The morning after, Gala tells the queens that she wanted to be in the top last week just so she could perform the Danna song in front of Danna and make her proud. And she also thinks that the lip sync was kinda bad. Again, I agree.
Eva and Alyssa also discuss something important. How will the queens be sent home this time around? Will they be sending each other home? Will it be Ru sending them home? Important questions to ask, I think, since there hasn’t been press about it before.
The discussion is cut short by Ru arriving to tell them that this week’s Maxi Challenge is going to be a mystery-themed Ball and…well, let’s just say Eva didn’t do so well in the Ball that she last participated in on television.
As the queens start making their third look, we get a fun little interaction between Gala and Kitty where Gala doesn’t think Kitty can be sexy and Kitty gamely breaks the fourth wall to say that she thinks the audience does find her sexy.
I also like how Soa is throwing shade at Emily in Paris, saying that she isn’t a white girl and that she’ll be bringing the hood, but fashion. Although by her own admission, her time at the Ball in Drag Race France was “a mess”.
Pythia also makes the always valid observation — since she’s the one the girls are turning to for help — that some of these girls still haven’t learned to sew, despite getting a spot in Global All Stars. Although this does make me worry that Pythia is going to be in the bottom because she’s been helping everybody so much she doesn’t get the time to work on her outfit.
For the most part, you don’t get a sense of who’s going to be in trouble during Ru’s walkthrough, but we did get a really great exchange between Tessa Testicla and Alyssa Edwards. I don’t know where Tessa gets the literal balls but it’s definitely entertaining to watch her!
After the talk though, you kinda get the feeling that the bottom three will be Athena, Soa, and Eva, only because they don’t seem to have made a lot of outfit for the Ball. That’s the point of the challenge! But lets see, they may just pull something out of the bag!
Miranda also brings up a good point when it comes to this competition — some of the queens competing have the money and the contacts to bring stunning outfits with them. Countries like Brazil and the Philippines? Maybe not so much. I do raise my eyebrows a little at Vanity being “It’s not a talent to open a wallet” when you come from Sweden. Sure, you may not be rolling in dough over there, but you’ve still got an economic leg up over some of the queens there right now.
The Maxi Challenge starts and…well, they start off with the first prepared looks and it’s all very underwhelming? Other than Pythia’s, Miranda’s and Alyssa’s, I guess. Even the voiceovers aren’t hitting for me. The second looks aren’t any better, either.
Now as for the looks they made there? Pythia’s looks great, considering the time limit and how ambitious she was in her design. Eva’s outfit…was okay! Definitely much better than what she did for the Ball in Drag Race Philippines ALTHOUGH I didn’t think that look was all that bad either.
I think Pythia was the only one of the queens to standout because Miranda’s didn’t do it for me either and I was rooting for her to come up with something? And it’s very obvious that Alyssa’s first two outfits that looked gorgeous were acquired either through money or contacts because her self-constructed outfit was…well it stayed on her body, let’s say that!
Now we find out how eliminations are going to be conducted: the traditional Lip Sync for Your Life. Oh those queens better bring the lip syncs!
The top and bottom queens that we end up with are Pythia, Athena, Miranda, Alyssa, Soa, and Tessa. Judging from the critiques, Pythia is likely to win while it’s going to be Athena, Soa, and maybe Tessa in the bottom? Athena certainly feels that Tessa should be in the bottom with her, saying right to her face that she thinks the dress is shit.
Unfortunately for Athena and a gag for the audience, Tessa is safe. Of course they gotta keep her around because she’s a little abrasive and will definitely bring the drama in the coming episodes. The two final queens in the bottom are Athena and Soa. Let’s see what happens in the lip sync!
And…well, I think they should both been sent home? Athena was just okay while Soa didn’t even know the words at some points. But alas, the final word is Ru’s and she thinks Soa should stay. Bye Athena!
