I’ve been not as slammed at work this week so I am getting to watch this on the same day! Let’s get right into it!
After the previous episode, not only did we see Kyle Echarri’s nips and pits, we also saw J Quinn bid the other queens goodbye. Bye J Quinn!
After J Quinn’s elimination, the queens joke about how they’re not really sad about it but are they really joking. But that is quickly glossed over as production sprinkles some shade with a confessional from Myx saying that she would have preferred Tita Baby winning the Snatch Game rather than Angel.
We then find out that Popstar Bench’s outfits for these season really weren’t the ones she planned on bringing. Jesus. From what little I’ve gleaned online, that does seem to have happened to a number of the queens this season. Why are local designers dropping this bag?
We then get Myx Chanel declaring in the confessionals that she will not stop at three bottom placements which just tells me that this episode will be her fourth and final bottom placement. You in danger girl.
The next day Myx continues to declare that she’s found her fire and really that just means production will set you up either for an elimination or a win. This does not set up a safe placement for you.
Zymba, on the other hand, seems to be the one who is going to get a top placement this episode. She’s asked about her father, who she lost before entering the competition. She talks about how that demotivated her and I can already see the scene later on in the show where she wins and cries and says she’s found her new motivation.
From the RuMail, the queens easily figure out that this is going to be the Rusical episode and…well let’s just say that Drag Race Philippines doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to Rusicals. But they’ve finally achieved a good Snatch Game this season so maybe they can break the streak!
The mini challenge is a play on the viral Ogie Diaz acting workshop and I’m gonna admit I haven’t seen the original video and I don’t think I ever will! But I’ve seen the ones where the people make fun of it! And Zymba wins this mini challenge, which really bodes well for her if my prediction is correct.
Zymba gets to choose first for their Wicked-inspired Rusical and do they have to clear the songs for this or something? Does it count as parody? Will they get into trouble like that Bridgerton musical that I think was sued to oblivion? Let’s see!
Maxie, Angel, and Myx all want the role of Glenda and the queens decide they should audition for it and then we find out that the Rusical is possibly in English and my expectations for the Rusical immediately drop. What’s so wrong about doing this in Filipino or Taglish? This could possibly be a disaster.
Another disaster is Myx Chanel’s confessionals because she really seems like she’s gunning for Angel and as some of us have seen in viewing parties Angel and Maxie have no problem squaring up. Myx, you in danger girl.
Rehearsals start and my fears are assuaged a little when it become clear that no, it’s only Glenda’s part that’s possibly in English and everything else looks to be Filipino or Taglish. And there’s going to be wirework which the fuck? Are we the first Drag Race franchise to do this? Because I don’t think I’ve seen this in the other Rusicals I’ve watched!
The Rusical starts and…I dunno. I guess I kinda just wanted them to do something Filipino? Something a little more us. This feels too much like…trying to be the American version when what’s been the strength so far is leaning more into the Filipino-ness. There’s a reason why the Snatch Game episode is the highest rated one right now!
Not to say that the queens didn’t do well. I think they did well enough! But this could have been even better, I feel. Well, hopefully this at least translates better for international Drag Race reactors. Especially that whole stuff on the wires because I honestly loved it and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it any other Drag Race franchise!
The runway theme is Kum-Haute Couture and John’s outfit doesn’t fit her very well, I think? She’s definitely had better fitting clothes than these. I loved Zymba’s look and Jesus freaking Christ Khianna drinking from an arinola I can’t. Everybody’s outfits actually look real good, to be honest! Well, except for Popstar Bench’s, which is hobbled by the multiple reveals. Sure, there’s multiple reveals but all the outfits didn’t have a good silhouette?
Maxie and Khianna are the only safe queens this episode and oohhhh, let’s see what’s going to happen this episode. From the critiques, it looks like Zymba’s going to take the win this episode like I predicted. And Myx looks like she’s going to get a top placement like I predicted. But what I didn’t predict is Myx’s revealation of her HIV+ status. Is this the first time it’s happening on Drag Race Philippines? I know it’s old hat in other franchises but I think this is the first time it’s happening for Drag Race Philippines.
Zymba wins this week, while the bottom two queens are John and Popstar Bench. The song is Regine Velasquez’s “Dadalhin” and I know that Popstar is a Sarah G. impersonator but you already know that she is going to body this. John tries to go the comedic route but I don’t think this is the song to do that to and it’s she who ends up going home. And it’s a tearful goodbye too, with the queens even going on stage to give her a hug. Bye John!
