Ron Watches Drag Race Philippines Season 3 Episode 8

Not only has been the past few days been busy ones for me, I’ve also been battling a fever and a cold, so yeah, that’s all my planned posts down the drain. But I’m feeling good enough today to make another post!

Popstar Bench bid everyone goodbye in the previous episode, but even that departure was unfortunately overshadowed by the announcement that the next episode — this new one — would be a Lalaparuza.

Or at least, her departure was overshadowed in the viewers’ minds by the Lalaparuza. The queens still get to mourn her departure, before the confessional from Myx Chanel moves to Khianna and how badly she’s been shaken by her first bottom placement.

But that, in turn, is overshadowed by discussion of the upcoming Lalaparuza. The queens think Maxie is the threat, not just because she’s the only one among them with three Rubadges but also because she’s a good lip sync artist. Truth be told, I’ve only see Maxie perform live so I don’t know if the queens’ fears are founded.

The other queens are also apprehensive of their chances in the Lalaparuza, with Myx saying that she’s shaking in her boots but still excited to perform. Let’s see if their fears are unfounded!

The next day, what was meant to be lighthearted banter in the Werk Room turns a little personal when Myx makes a joke about Zymba’s outfit that Zymba’t doesn’t appreciate at all, which leads to Zymba striking back with a read and the situation devolves and just turns into a circular situation where nobody wants to give way. Eventually, the arrival of RuMail brings an end to the discussion.

But before they get into the Maxi Challenge — which they already know is the Lalaparuza — the girls are going to play pokpok palayok, which is wordplay that involves whores but I don’t have enough brain power to explain. Myx wins the mini challenge, but not without an aside from Zymba saying that Myx needs to win a mini challenge before she gets sent home which just tells me maybe Zymba is the one going home this episode.

The Lalaparuza finally starts and it’s so refreshing to have this many OPM songs? That’s one of my biggest criticisms about the previous seasons of Drag Race Philippines. I honestly thought that all the lip sync songs from previous seasons should have been all Filipino songs but that’s just me.

The first match up is between Tita Baby and Myx Chanel and I don’t know about this Tita Baby. Maybe you’re right and they do want to send you home. BUT, Tita Baby is in it as soon as the music starts and maybe she does have a chance! And Tita Baby stays, despite flubbing her last stunt! Honestly, deserved. I personally felt that Myx’s performance was too…stiff? But that’s just me.

The next match up is between Angel and Khianna and it is definitely a stunt-heavy lip sync. I wish I could have seen more of their lip sync since a lot of it was obscured by all the splits and the wig removing and all. But it’s Angel who wins in the end!

Up next is Maxie versus Zymbading and I honestly thought that Maxie was the stronger performer but the wig reveals kinda hampered her? The final reveal made her hair get into her face a lot. But even with that hindrance she very clearly mopped the floor with Zymba.

And then we get an explanation for the Golden Balut inside the Werk Room. I honestly thought it was going to be an end of the episode reveal with the ramifications felt in the next episode but I was wrong. The three winning queens get to decide which of the bottom three gets saved and the Myx and Zymba fight from earlier in the show extends to this as Zymba brings up the fact that Myx has already been in the bottom three times.

Khianna does the smart thing and makes an appeal to the top three’s emotions rather than having an out and out fight with the other two and she ends up the one that the top three saves. Wow, it really does look like this may be Myx’s farewell episode!

And while I preferred Myx’s performance — I thought Zymba was doing too much — I also understand why they chose to send Myx home. That rolling on the floor from Zymba really was something.
