Ron Watches My Love Mix-Up (Thai) Episode 9

I’ve been slowly, slowly trying to get back to making blogging a regular thing again after that latest episode of mental instability for me. I know what it is that causes it but I am self-destructive and keep coming back to it, ha. ha. ha. ha. hu. hu. hu. hu.

When we left these two Thai homosexuals in the previous episode, they finally kissed after eight episodes full of ups and downs and product placements. Where’s their relationship going to go from here?

Oh wait, from the subtitle/caption/whatever it seems like they’re onto the next year level? This is different from the Japanese version! Or at least I think they’ve moved up a year level I may be misunderstanding. Either way, they’ve been given a new seat allocation and the homosexuals and their straight friends are sitting near each other.

Mudmee, however is not thrilled, because even after going out on dates during the school break, complete with product placement food products, nothing happened between her and Half. Girl is gagging for it.

I’m actually curious about how these things taste now.

I know that the heterosexuals have so few avenues with which to tell their stories so this may sound heterophobic but just the way these first few minutes are progressing I feel like this is going to be a straight-focused episode and…well…I am ready to tune out! I did it to The Untamed and I’ll do it for this one too!

Turns out Counselor Not Homophobia is their homeroom teacher this year and was the one who gave out the new seat allocations. Homos helping homos, this is the future liberals want.

The guys take their career aptitude tests once more and Atom still hasn’t decided what he’s going to be in the future, other than having a lot of money. He wants to just be a housewife and I can respect that!

Atom’s friends, however, all have their lives figured out and know what they’re going to be pursuing in college, ranging from Veterinary Medicine to Communication Arts. Kongthap assures him that he still has time to find out what it is he wants to do but Atom, if you just want to be Kongthap’s kept woman there’s nothing wrong with that!

Later on in the day, Atom finds out that Kongthap’s birthday is coming up and while he thinks he should make it special for Kongthap, Kongthap is pretty nonchalant about it, saying that there’s more important things than one’s birthday.

Meanwhile, Mudmee is asking Half if they can go to a meteor shower watching activity and by they Mudmee means just the two of them and Half is asking why Mudmee wants it to just be the two of them. Half, baby, Mudmee wants you to dick her down. Either way, I’m finding it a little tiring in much the same way I found Mudmee being a fake damsel in distress in the previous episode.

Back at his home, Atom is worrying about not having enough money to treat Konthap to a nice meal and tries to ask his mom to give him some money in advance but he changes his mind once his mom starts asking about why he wants it sent in advance. Atom isn’t ready to come out just yet! Atom evades his mom’s questioning by taking a shower, but this leads to his mom finding his career aptitude test thin and her probably misunderstanding that her son want to help out with their family’s financial situation. It’s not about that mom, he’s doing this for dick!

Mudmee, on the other hand, is being asked out to watch to the astronomy club activity by a guy who isn’t Half, and sorry to this man but you are not as cute as Half. I mean I would say yes to random guy but if Half was the other option…come on now. But then again why not both?

Half, being an incompetent straight man, says he’s okay if Mudmee goes out with random guy. Understandably, Mudmee is angry and girl, the dick cannot be that good to have to go through all this. YOU HAVEN’T EVEN EXPERIENCED THE DICK. TOO MUCH WORK FOR UNCERTAIN RETURNS!

Atom, meanwhile, has turned to Sin to earn money. No, he did not prostitute himself and no there is nothing wrong with sex work. Sin is just the name of the handsome senior that taught him how to bake and is the boyfriend of Counselor Not Homophobia.

The next day, the Homosexuals™ notice that the Straights are not getting along, and once Atom figures out what the problem is, he asks Half why he doesn’t just go for it and dick Mudmee down? With consent? I mean ask her to be his girlfriend? Half, because he is straight, rejects this very good advice from the Homosexuals™.

With that issue unresolved, the Homosexuals™ retreat to the rooftop, where Atom tries to suss out what it is that Kongthap wants for his birthday. Kongthap says just being with him is present enough, but Atom insists he’s going to give him a present that he won’t be able to refuse. Is that present your bussy?

The day of Kongthap’s birthday, his mom cooks him a lot of food which kinda makes me hungry right now and maybe I should order some takeout because I’ve cooked already and I don’t wanna wash anymore dishes. BUT ANYWAY. Kongthap tells his mom that he’s thinking of going to Bangkok to study veterinary medicine and his mom is sad because his dad is already working away. Kongthap tells her it’s just two hours away which makes me laugh because a two-hour commute is normal here. It shouldn’t be, but the traffic is horrible here that it is.

Then we get a total non-sequitur of a product placement with contact lenses. And eye things freak me out so let’s move on to the café where Atom is working, where he’s urging Half to apologize to Mudmee but he’s being a Straight Man and if I wanted more heterosexual nonsense I would watch something else.

Sin, being the Elder Homo, has a talk with Half and finally gets him to say what’s on his mind. He doesn’t think he can give back as much to Mudmee as she’s given to him and it is kinda nice to see a straight man being aware of how pathetic he is. Armed as he is with the combined knowledge of the Homo Consciousness — Sin is the Homo Haderach — he finally convinces Half to ask Mudmee to be his girlfriend.

With that out of the way, the Homosexuals™ can now pull focus again, as Kongthap conveniently holds his birthday party at the same café where Atom is working. His friends call him out for it but come on guys, you’re just bit players in a gay narrative. Be happy you’re onscreen!

Back to the Heterosexuals, Mudmee has a big blow up about Half being dense and throws her eraser from the school roof. However, she’s too dickmatized to get over Half and ropes in her two girl friends to help her look for the eraser. You’re so down bad for this dense boy it’s not even funny. Anyways, Half finds the eraser and the Straights finally get their act together. Big whoop.

Back with the Homosexuals™, Atom comes clean to Sin about why he doesn’t cook — he once almost burned their house down cooking fried rice. I empathize on that one. However, it ended up burning his mom and leaving her with scars which…what? This definitely wasn’t in the Japanese original and I don’t know why this has to be introduced now when Atom’s mother has barely been present throughout the series.

I’m thinking they included this so that it’ll look like Atom has overcome something monumental to prepare these dishes for Kongthap but does it have to be a traumatic incident from childhood? I think him just not knowing how to cook but pushing through anyways is big enough of a deal! BUT ANYWAYS. This leads to a cute scene where Kongthap doesn’t want anyone else to have the food Atom cooked because it’s his and maybe I’ll let it go just this once.

But then we have to delve into that childhood trauma once more as Kongthap tries to help Atom find out what it is he wants to do with his life and honestly? All of this feels like unnecessary extenders. Anyways, we get to the gift-giving part and Atom gets Kongthap a couple shirt. Cute.

Not as cute is when the episode ending implies that Kongthap’s mom may not be cool with the whole gay thing. Which kinda makes sense I guess. There’s been so many shippers online who are fine with their idols being theoretically gay but become raging homophobes once these guys turn out to actually be gay.
