Yes, it’s been two weeks without any book updates. But as I’ve constantly pointed out in other posts, I’ve had a busy week and a less than stable mental situation so I’ve been skipping posts a lot! But I’m getting back into it now!
Wuthering Heights casting
It was all over social media several days ago, but if you’re a wise person and have totally forsaken social media, you may not have heard that Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have been cast in a new Wuthering Heights adaptation to be written, produced, and directed by Emerald Fennell.
To be quite frank, I’ve never seen a Wuthering Heights adaptation before, although I did like the novel when I read it in high school. Maybe I should check out the Filipino adaptation on Netflix.
Third Bikol Book Festival
The past week also saw the staging of the Third Bikol Book Festival, an event I’ve posted about in previous Your Week in Books installments. The Bikol Book Festival Facebook page has photos and video from the different events, such as this gallery from the talk delivered by Kristian Sendon Cordero and Neni Sta. Roman Cruz.
Romalyn Ante’s “Agimat”

The Guardian put out a review of the poetry collection Agimat by Romalyn Ante last week. Romalyn is a Filipino-British practicing nurse in the NHS and The Guardian has called this collection a “spellbinding meditation on love and loss, hope” that continues Romalyn’s use of Filipino mythology.
Sally Rooney’s “Intermezzo”

Another new release that’s gotten a good review is the new Sally Rooney novel, Intermezzo. The Associated Press‘ Curtis Yee called the novel “a portrait of grief not fully internalized.” I particularly liked his ending sentence:
In the tense, messy contradictions of communal grief, Rooney weaves together beautiful whole cloth.
Now am I in the right head space to read a book about communal grief not fully internalized? Well.
