Episode 4 of Drag Race España is here! I honestly don’t know the time difference between here and Spain and I don’t want to find out because I just want to watch this new episode!
Porca went home in the previous episode and Miss Khristo is taking it pretty hard. Apparently they’ve been longtime collaborators and it just really hurts for Miss Khristo to not have him around.
The next day, the queens give Porca a nice send-off as they enter the Werk Room although I do miss the ancient seasons of Drag Race when they would celebrate the departure of a villain. And this season it looks like either Dita or Mariana is eager to take that role on.
Supremme enters the Werk Room and tells them that this week’s mini challenge will be opening a melon, and maybe that’s an expression in Spain that of course I am not aware of because this is somehow connected to social media? But then again, mini challenges in any Drag Race edition have always had a tenuous hold to reality.
Angelita wins this mini challegne but apparently does not get the €2,500 prize? Poor thing! But she does get the power to assign roles for this week’s Maxi Challenge, which is an acting one. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Could be either one when it comes to Drag Race!
Angelita says she going to be gracious and give the queens the roles that suit them but that is just setting yourself up to be the object of scorn by any one of these queens. After the queens talk about the roles they want for themselves, Angelita gives Mariana the one role she doesn’t want and I am CACKLING.
Vampi also doesn’t get the role she wants and just like I said, now Angelita is being called a hypocrite. It’s a no-win situation when it comes to assigning roles, honestly!
The queens start rehearsing for the acting challenge and it looks like Dita is going to be the bottom queen for this episode because everything she’s prepared goes against what Supremme wants them to do. Judging from the confessionals, it also looks like Mariana going to be down there as well.
The next day, Vampirashian starts the drama by point blank saying she wasn’t happy with the role she was given and that she didn’t think Angelita was being very fair at all when she assigned the roles. Vampi says Angelita told her that she did well and she was supportive but Vampi thinks of course she’d do well, she’s got a ~Performing Arts degree~. All that doesn’t matter because she didn’t get the part that she wanted.
Mariana joins in as well, calling Angelita a rotten snake and an underminer and it’s a good thing that she, Mariana, is a star that could salvage it. Honestly, if both Vampi and Mariana thought they did well anyway, should it still matter that you didn’t get the role that you wanted? But that’s just me.
Megui, who already has tension with Mariana from the previous episode, steps up for Angelita. Does she do it particularly well? Well, no, but there was an effort!
Finally, it’s Angelita’s turn to speak and the tension here really is between Mariana and her. The insults are flying and I think the subtitles aren’t conveying the full effect but that’s just me guessing because I can only speak Spanish at the most basic, basic, basic level. Like first-grade Spanish. IF AT ALL. In the end, apologies are made and not received and I don’t know if this is going to be a running conflict throughout the season.
We finally get to the runway and the theme is “Tales to Keep You Awake” and the runways start off great! I did feel a little disappoitted with Le Coco’s because the outfit she revealed into wasn’t as good as the one she had on top. But other than that these are really good! I don’t think American Drag Race has done horror looks as good as these ones.
The acting challenge starts and I get some of the jokes at first but just like any interntaional franchise, there are cultural references that I’m just not going to get. I’m curious to know if Spanish people who’ve actually watched the show being referenced actually find this funny.
Vampirashian, Megui, Miss Khristo, and Chloe are the safe queens this episode, so we’re definitely going to see even more tension between Angelita and Mariana. Dita didn’t get a lot of positive critique, while the judges loved Le Coco’s reveal. I mean, I’m not a fashion person, really, so I would defer to their opinions.
Mariana gets negative critiques for her performance as well, but also gets told that you have to make the role your own, even if it wasn’t the one you imagined for yourself. Angelita, on the other hand, gets great critiques and props to the shady cameraman for getting Mariana’s reactions to the positive feedback.
Let me just say here that I really like how they do critiques in Drag Race España because I feel like it’s very fair? They point out the positives of each queen but also make sure to add what the quens can do to improve. For instance, they made sure to say that La Niña has the talent, it’s just that she lacks the experience to utilize it well. That said, La Niña might just join Mariana in the bottom.
Back in the Werk Room, Vampi and Megui make up but honestly they weren’t the stars of the conflict. When the top and bottom queens come back, Angelita is still pissed even though Mariana is already repentant. Petty? Yes. Delicious? Also yes.
Angelita wins this week’s challenge, as expected, and not onyl does she win €2,500, she gets a two-night stay at Ritual Torremolinos, which I don’t really now about but it’s an adults-only hotel!
The bottom queens are Mariana and Dita and I guess this is Dita’s time to go home because Mariana just revealed she was wearing heels inside of her clown shoes. A SHOE WITHIN A SHOE. And Mariana is doing all the splits and tricks while also having LITERAL KILLER CLOWN FACE.
Dita Dubois is the one sent home this episode, which isn’t really surprising after that lip sync. Also, there needs to be conflict in the coming episodes so Mariana has to stay and fight with Angelita. ¡Adios Dita!
