Ron Watches Drag Race Thailand Season 3 Episode 2

I’m finally going to get all caught up! Hopefully, nothing else is sprung up on me so I can get a nice schedule going.

Nobody went home in the first episode, and obviously the girls are happy about it. Srirasha does think it should have been Siam Phusri lip syncing and not her, but what’s done is done and she’s happy that she’s still in the running.

The next day, the complete set of queens enter and Gigi Ferocious talks about how the northern girls act and I’m really curious about all those subtle cultural differences that I’m probably missing out on. Is this similar to the city queens versus provincial queens debate on Drag Race Philippines?

Maybe that’s something that they’ll explore further down in the season, but for now the argument is between Zepee and Frankie Wonga, because Zepee doesn’t think Frankie deserved the win. Like…this early and the claws are out! At least wait until the third episode! And it’s not just Zepee picking on Frankie either, because Srirasha and Spicy join in and Benze notes in the confessionals that it’s three friends ganging up on Frankie and then Frankie is crying in the confessionals MY GHAD. IT’S EPISODE TWO CALM DOWN.

Before the queens come to blows or whatever, Pangina walks in and has them all lined up in row for the mini challenge. We’ll overlook the fact that she asked the queens what they thought about the winner and there was silence. The queens are tasked to get into quick drag resembling their younger selves and they’re playing what I assume is a Thai children’s game. It looks fun! At the end of it all, Nane Sphera ends up the mini challenge winner.

Aside from the cash prize, Nane Sphera gets to choose the Thai goods and products that will go to the other contestants for today’s Maxi Challenge, the Ball. It’s going to be pageant-themed, with the runways being swimsuit, Thai futuristic, and E.T.- evening gown. Shortgun felt that Nane was picking the better materials for people that she liked but to be quite honest I thought all of the materials on offer were difficult to work with? But maybe that’s just me.

Pangina does her walkthrough and apparently it wasn’t shown in the previous episode but Shortgun was criticized for her walk. Which I quite honestly didn’t notice! Although they only showed one instance of it, I did like how Pangina actually gave advice to Gawdland. The other hosts from other franchises probably do the same but the trend has been to edit those out.

I really do feel like this third season of Drag Race Thailand is their “first” season because I think the people behind the production are entirely new so they haven’t figured out how to craft a story yet. The tension between Frankie and Spicy when they had a fight early in the episode — Frankie cried in the confessionals! — wasn’t carried throughout the episode so when they do finally make up I had actually forgotten they had fought? But I feel like as they get to do more seasons they’re going to firm it up. Drag Race Philippines only really found its stride in the third season!

Nana Sphera is up first on the runway and it’s really only now that I’m realizing what other drag queens say about feminizing and proportionizing the body. I know it’s been said MULTIPLE times over many seasons but Nana Sphera has broad shoulders and it’s really obvious with the swimsuit she chose to go out with. And I think you can say the same for a lot of the other queens. I think Zepee is the only one of them who really succeeded. Siam Phusri’s outfit maybe could have worked but the breastplate’s colors is too different from her actual skin color.

The first few entries for the Thai futuristic category weren’t tickling me either until Frankie Wonga walked in. DAMN. Just look at it!

Frankie actually had a photo of it on her Instagram account but it’s just of the head and I kinda wanted the full shebang. It looked so good and the judges think so too. I’m sorry to all the other queens that followed after that but you kinda had your asses handed to you. Couldn’t even think of anything else. And it’s really unfair because I think Kara and Siam’s outfits were good too but Frankie Wonga’s just fucked me up.

Now we get to the final batch of outfits, the ones the queens made on their own and I’m sorry to say this but Frankie is winning this episode again, I think. How’d she find the time to do those face prosthetics? It offset the simplicity of her outfit a little.

Gigi Ferocious, Frankie Wonga, Siam Phusri, Shortgun, and Kara Might are all safe and I am like…what? Frankie’s safe? But okay, maybe they didn’t want a two-badge queen so early in the competition. Or maybe they weren’t that impressed with Frankie’s simple evening gown.

The judges also go in on the queens, especially the looks that they didn’t like. Gawdland was not happy in the confessionals, although I think he didn’t get the worst critiques? I think Spicy and Srirasha got the brunt of the negativity.

Is there not gonna be an Untucked for Drag Race Thailand? Because it looks like the girls had a good cry before they went back to the main stage. Either way, Nane Sphera wins the Maxi Challenge and its Spicy and Srirasha lip syncing. Unfortunately for Srirasha, Spicy really just commanded all attention with her performance.
