Ron Watches Drag Race España Season 4 Episode 6

I am finally back on track! Let’s take a look at the latest episode of Drag Race España!

We said ¡Adios! to Miss Khristo in the previous episode, and Angelita is mad and frustrated. She’s incredibly pouty throughout when the “pretty” girls console her and Le Coco and there’s a tense moment when La Niña thought Angelita was “clapping” sarcastically and goodness me nobody has any chill left.

I do think that the season has been leaning heavily towards the “pretty” girls. So far it’s only been the “weird” queens who have been eliminated and I hope the trend doesn’t continue because it’s going to be a very boring finale if it’s all going to be look queens. And look queens that champion a specific type.

The next day, Angelita is a lot calmer but the “weird” queen narrative continues unabated. In the confessionals, Le Coco says her nightmare is Mariana Stars winning the whole thing and I am worried for the state of these queens’ social media accounts.

The queens also take about the badge count and Le Coco gets some attention because while she hasn’t won any yet, she’s always been one of the top queens. She declares that she’s never going to be in the bottom but considering the “weird” queens trend I think it’s safe to say that she’s going to be in the bottom in this episode and might even go home.

This week’s Maxi Challenge is the Rusical, with this season’s subject being flamenco artists. The queens are once again tasked with assigning the roles amongst themselves and oh my god this is what caused the rift between the queens in the first place.

Now, the only thing I know about flamenco is what trickles down to me from Hollywood, so I looked for a video that was actually shot in Spain.

I don’t know if that’s representative of the actual tradition or if there are other interpretations. And maybe I shouldn’t expect a straightforward representation from Drag Race España but this franchise has been good with representing its culture so I have hope!

The queens begin casting the roles and wouldn’t you know it, the conflict isn’t between the “weird” queens and the “pretty” queens but between two “pretty” queens. La Niña says she’s not going to be dramatic about not getting the role she wants but when she doesn’t get the role she wants she goes on a whole dramatic thing where she’s always been in the bottom and Mariana can succeed wherever she’s put but no she’s fine with not getting the role she wants and honestly maybe it’s because I’m old like Angelita but get over it. Pick a role and do it, I’ve had it!

During the rehearsals, it’s hard to suss out who’s going to be the top and bottom queens because it seems like all of them are very average? And while I don’t think Angelita was fully in the wrong when she got pissed off with Mariana’s group early on, I think she’s holding onto that grudge for way too long. Or at least that’s the way production is making it look.

But to be fair to production, La Niña isn’t getting the best edit either, as she seems to be misinterpreting or thinking the worst of everything that Angelita does, even if the other queens don’t seem to have a problem with it. It’s just messy all around and whether we admit it or not we love mess.

The musical finally starts and while I don’t think there’s going to be a traditional flamenco performance, right off the bat this is already a production because of the extras. It’s staged like an actual production and not just something you do in your backyard to entertain your friends. Unfortunately, I do not get a lot of the cultural references, which is a shame because the judges seem to be enjoying the Rusical. They were even crying by the end!

After what I am assuming was a layered and successful Rusical, the queens get on the runway with the theme “I am the fair” and I really liked what Angelita and Mariana wore on the runway. I kinda liked Le Coco’s outfit too but whatever it was she did at the end kinda confused me. I feel like it wasn’t needed?

Le Coco is the only safe queen this week and quite frankly I can’t figure out who the top and bottom queens are because I think they all performed uniformly well? But that’s why I’m not a judge on Drag Race España.

Angelita gets great critiques, while Mariana apparently forgot an important line. I couldn’t even tell! The judges say that Angelita really covered for Mariana and I gotta say she did it very well. Or maybe it was easy for me to miss it because I don’t speak the language.

Megui gets praised for her performance, but also gets told that she should have edited her look. Chloe also gets a sorta similar critique, being told that she needs to show as much control with her acting as she does with her looks.

La Niña, after being cunty for most of the episodes, gets dressed down for her performance and runway, while it looks like Vampirashian will be joining Angelita as the top two queens of the challenge. As to who will win? I think they’re going to give it to Vampirashian and keep Mariana’s two-badge lead. They’re already going to humble Mariana by sending her to the bottom today.

And I’m right! Vampirashian takes the win while Angelita is in the top. It’s Chloe and La Niña in the bottom two and I think this is Chloe’s first time after being safe multiple times? I think she’s going home because La Niña not only has a badge but also has an ongoing conflict with Angelita but let’s see!

The lip sync is great, with synchronized forward rolls? Wig reveals? That whole exorcist spider walk thing? I was thinking to myself that this would be a good double shantay moment but didn’t think they would do it, but they did! Congrats to both of them!
