Ron Watches Drag Race Thailand Season 3 Episode 4

Finally, finally catching Drag Race Thailand on the day it actually airs. Hopefully, this is a trend that continues!

We said goodbye to Kara Might in the previous episode but the queens don’t seem all that broken up about it. Or at least that’s the impression you get when they first enter the Werk Room. Spicy Sunshine at least feels a little bad, especially since Kara just wrote on the mirror that she thinks Spicy is going to win it all.

But pretty soon the conversation turns to Zepee, who was the challenge winner last week. She thinks that she may have a future in comedy because of the judges’ crititques and I honestly can’t say that I got it but maybe Thai viewers do. But with that out of the way, the queens quickly turn to Siam, whose look they feel should have landed her in the bottom along with Kara Might.

The next day, after Spicy gets dubbed the lip sync assassin of the season, Gigi gets asked by Spicy who she’d lip sync against if she ever found herself in the bottom two. Gigi’s pick is Siam and I gotta say these queens really have it in for Siam! What did she do to all of you? To Siam’s credit, she seems to be taking it all in stride.

This week’s RuMail — PanMail? — arrives and it’s pretty obvious that the Maxi Challenge is going to be an acting one, but before they get to that they have to do a quick drag mini challenge that requires them to look glam and like laborers at the same time. Again, I don’t think this is the exact brief but that’s what the subtitles say.

Turns out that the translations are correct. Maybe a little more context would have helped but either way, the queens get to take part in a photoshoot in their “glamagorn” looks. Siam is up first and just judging from the queens confessional thoughts and just the overall foreshadowing I feel like she’ll be the bottom queen this episode. Nane Sphera wins the mini challenge and wins money and the power to cast the roles in the acting challenge. Oh the drama this may cause.

And…well the drama isn’t verbalized, at least initially. Rock paper scissors — the great equalizer — is used whenever two queens want the same role, and no one seems willing to start a fight because all the misgivings are only mentioned in the confessionals.

While I’ve been watching some Thai dramas now — Century of Love, for one — I still haven’t watched enough or lived enough of the culture to fully catch all the humor in the acting challenge. One thing is clear though: Benze is fucking it up right off the bat. Also I was distracted because Pangina had her boy tits out.

The next day, as they prepare for the runway, the queens have a discussion about gender expression and sexual orientation, with Nane having an interesting experience. If it’s just sex, she’s okay with anything, but she’d much rather partner up with a masc guy if it’s going to be a relationship.

We get to see the hat-themed runway first before the acting challenge and I liked Benze, Spicy, and Nane’s hats. The judges really liked Nane’s hat and were very vocal about it. Not that that translates to a win because Frankie Wonga should have won episode two then.

Just look at it!

After the runway, they show the acting challenge and Benze really looks like she’s reading the script. I suppose it’s hitting all the necessary tropes and even Pangina lets out a laugh but I don’t know enough about Thai culture to fully understand this acting challenge. I’m sorry!

Spicy, Gigi, and Gawdland are safe! And it’s a mixed bag when it comes to the critiques as the judges both have great and not so great things to say about the performances and the runway. Benze Diva seems particularly in danger though.

Siam is safe, unlike my initial thoughts. Zepee, on the other hand, wins this week’s challenge. Benze, unsurprisingly, lands in the bottom and she has to go up against Shortgun. And to be quite honest, the moment she tore the top of that top hat, I knew that Benze was going to be sticking around for at least another episode.
