Another week has gone by, and with it is a weeks worth of books news from here and abroad. Let’s dive in!
Captain America: Brave New World trailer
Marvel Studios just released the official trailer for Captain America: Brave New World and I gotta say I am convinced. Can’t wait to watch this in the cinemas.
November book celebrations
I’m going to be perfectly honest here, I didn’t even know all of this was happening this November. Good thing that the National Book Development Board put up this post so I know that this month is National Children’s Month, National Reading Month, and National Book Development Month. I guess I picked the right time to get back to reading and posting book reviews again!
Louis Sachar’s first adult novel

Disclosure: I haven’t actually read what has to be Louis Sachar’s most popular work — Holes. But I do now that a lot of readers love that book and even the movie adaptation that was made. So I thought that they’d also be excited to know that Louis Sachar is coming out with his first adult novel — The Magician of Tiger Castle.
According to People, the book is a “modern fantasy novel” that tells the story of Princess Tullia of Esquaveta who is “set to marry a prince from a neighboring village in order to form an alliance. When the princess falls for a lowly scribe instead, her father the King enlists the help of a magician named Anatole, who must decide if he wants to betray the kingdom or the princess’s trust in the process.”
Head on over to People for a short email interview with Sachar. The Magician of Tiger Castle is set to be published on August 5, 2025 but it’s already available for pre-order.
Asian Festival of Children’s Content Circle Philippines
If you’re in Baguio from November 21 to November 23, there are going to be “workshops, lectures, and panel discussions celebrating children’s and young adult literature” in the city as it is hosting the Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC) Circle Philippines. Special guests include Singaporean illustrator Quek Hong Shin (The Incredible Basket, Grandma’s Tiger) and writer Melanie Lee (Amazing Ash & Superhero Ah Ma).
‘The Wizard of Oz’ ruby slippers to be auctioned
I’m exposing my age here, but I’m one of those people who kept on watching and rewatching The Wizard of Oz on VHS as a child. And just like any good little baby gay, I was fascinated by Dorothy’s ruby slippers.
Decades later, one of the four pairs that Judy Garland wore for the movie is being auctioned by Heritage Auctions. I don’t know if just one lone The Wizard of Oz or Jidy Garland fan will win that auction thought, because the Judy Garland Museum and Minnesota lawmakers have raised a lot of money to ensure those shoes end up with them.
National Book Award winners
The Manila Critics Circle just recently announced the winners of its 42nd National Book Awards. It’s awarding is going to be held at Intramuros this month.
The last National Book Awards nominated book I read was The Secret of Derek Guerrero.
Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light
Like I said last week, I haven’t read any of the Wolf Hall books or its adaptations. If any of you are planning on watching the latest adaptation, though, The Guardian has given it a positive review!
‘Thunderbolts*’ D23 Brazil Special Look
And just so we end on a theme, here’s the Thunderbolts* D23 Brazil Special Look that Marvel has also just released!
