We’re halfway through the season! I personally think no clear frontrunners have emerged, but maybe that’s going to change this episode!
Shortgun went home in the last episode and after a cursory goodbye from the queens, they congratulate Zepee on her win and ask how Benze’s feeling about her performance. At least Benze’s very honest with herself, acknowledging that she really did not do well in the acting challenge. I do have to note that in Gawdland’s confessional, she shared the opinion that Shortgun should have gone home in the first episode. I’d call her the villain of the season but we’re already halfway through.
The next day, the queens are playfully teasing Nane Sphera for her multiple mini challenge wins. Nane deflects it onto Siam and maybe I am not just understanding the nuances of the language because the translation is subpar but what is their problem with Siam? Is it because she’s not part of the local scene? She hasn’t done anything particularly egregious but maybe things are happening behind the scenes we’re not seeing?
As the conversation goes on it looks like the queens think Siam is being fake and since I’m not there they may have incidents to support this assertion. The problem is that the show hasn’t provided the viewers — or at least me — those incidents to support that assertion. Maybe it’s in the nuances of the language, but they way they’ve edited the show makes it look like they’re picking on Siam simply because she’s an outsider.
Pangina enters the Werk Room to tell the queens that it’s time for the reading challenge and they really do not like Siam! Which, again, could be justified emotions but the show hasn’t given the audience the information to come up with that same conclusion! Or at least the non-Thai audience because maybe the Thai audience understands why the queens feel the way they do about Siam. Anyways, Gawdland wins the challenge and I think it’s the correct decision because her reads actually translated well.
I’ll be honest here, when they started talking with Pangina about the characters they chose to play, I literally could not get any of the references they were saying. Hopefully, the Snatch Games jokes translate very well! And when the Snatch Game started, it was…well it was very local-centric, let’s say that. I think there needs to be a person who explains the jokes for non-Thai folk like the one that does for Drag Race Philippines? Because I honestly just could not get the jokes but I think maybe it’s just because I couldn’t get the references?
After the Snatch Game, Gawdland and Gigi begin questioning Siam’s sincerity again and I have to be honest…I really don’t see the problem! I think the show needs to get better story editors for the plots to make sense because they either didn’t show the scenes where Siam is a problem or it was maybe too subtle for non-Thai people to notice it.
Up next is a clown-themed runway and Zepee starts if off well but then…clownery happens with some of the other queens. I couldn’t get Benze’s outfit, sorry! Nane Sphera’s? I got the idea but I think the execution was mid? Thankfully, Frankie Wonga comes out with something good.
Spicy Sunshine, Siam, Benze Diva, Gigi Ferocious and Gawdland are the tops and bottoms this week. And I got admit that from the critiques, I think the whole Siam fight was to justify her likely elimination this week? I also had to raise my eyebrows at Gigi Ferocious’ dramatic moment because you didn’t answer the question at all! Or maybe she did but the editing didn’t do her any favors.
After the critiques, Spicy wins this week and unexpectedly, it’s Benze and Gigi in the bottom. I say unexpectedly because I thought they were setting up for a Gigi versus Siam lip sync! And maybe they should have gone with that plan because I don’t think Benze really thought her lip sync strategy through. It looked like she was giving up! Gigi stays on for another week and I understand why that choice was made.
