The finale is practically around the corner, so let’s just jump right into it as we get closer to the end!
Actavia bid the queens goodbye in the previous episode but what the queens are talking about is Lill’s newly-minted status as lip sync assassin. This is her third lip sync win, although technically one of those wins was a lip sync for the…win.
La Voix and Kyran are celebrating their three badges while Charra and Marmalade are commiserating with each other as contestants with no badges and I’m kinda worried that his means Charra is going home this episode. Maybe Marmalade is going to be a bottom queen but they’re not going to send her home, come on.
This week it’s the makeover challenge and the queens’ family members and partners walk in to be dragged up. And maybe it’s just my old age speaking but I kinda teared up as the queen’s teared up? Never done that before!
At the same time, I think they wanna hobble La Voix because why’d you send her dad in! Her almost 80-year-old dad! It’s going to be a lot of trouble for her! I don’t think La Voix’s dad is going to be against doing drag, it’s just that will he have the stamina for it?
As the queens drag up their partners, it’s a pretty relaxed atmosphere! I don’t know why but I kinda expected friction. Maybe not actual fighting but some playful shade thrown at each other. But so far the queens have just been having fun trying to come up with a look for their partners.
Another difference from other makeover challenges I’ve watched is the walkthrough. Is this already going to be the “podcast” equivalent for this season? I kinda like it! And the queens all seem to have such lovely people with them? I liked how Charra and Lill and really all of them have such supportive parents and family members. So heartwarming!
Heartwarming scenes aside though, the queens who look like they’re in trouble this week are Rileasa and Charra. Rileasa because she now has to make two outfits, and Charra because her mom looks to be having a harder time adjusting to the whole drag of it all. Surprisingly, it looks like La Voix’s father who has the stamina for drag after all!
The whole episode has been so positive and uplifiting that I kinda feel bad talking about the runways I didn’t quite like so I’ll just focus on the ones that I thought were great. I really liked Marmalade and her mom’s dress. It was giving me a mix of Clueless and Absolutely Fabulous, two things that I love. Meanwhile, it’s not so much the outfit itself that I liked about Kyran’s runway but how it fit her aesthetic so much. It’s so her that I ended up liking it.
Marmalade wins her first badge this episode! Unfortunately, Charra and Rileasa are the bottom two this episode and it says a lot that the judges really did have to nitpick to chose the two of them. And then the lip sync song is “Never Gonna Give You Up”? This might be the first time I’ve heard the song in a non-meme context in a long, long time? Unfortunately, it’s Charra’s time to go.
