It’s the finale so let’s get into it right now!
Lill sashayed away in the previous episode, leaving us with La Voix, Kyran Thrax, Marmalade, and Rileasa as the top four. There’s the requisite paying respect to Lill like they’ve done to every other one that has sashayed away, but of course the bigger concern is the fact that they’re in the final four. It’s obviously going to be a battle between La Voix and Kyran Thrax, but Marmalade is really betting on herself winning.
The next day, Ru tells them that the final challenge before they win the crown is recording a finale song, with the verses written by the queens themselves. Again, this really is a challenge for La Voix and Kyran Thrax. Yes, I know this is always the final challenge, but La Voix and Kyran are at least not going to be exceptionally hobbled by this one.
What’s interesting though is that Marmalade wants to take on the rap part of the song. Seeing as how she sometimes has difficulty finding the line not to cross as shown in the roast, I wonder if this decision might end up losing her the crown. Although from the way the competition has been going I don’t think the producers are going to let her win anyway?
It’s also apparent that Marmalade isn’t going to win during the sitdown with Ru and Michelle because she doesn’t cry. It’s a good interview, but you know that Ru likes it when you show you want the crown and how it’s going to be life-changing for you. Being normal about it isn’t going to work for you, Marmalade!
Now Kyran coming in and making Ru laugh and then crying at the thought of winning the crown? That’s a top two move. And I like how they managed to explain her confidence without retreading the grooming story they shared with La Voix in episode five.
La Voix’s interview, on the other hand, might just have cost her the crown? She did the appropriate amount of giving tribute to Ru and the show but where are those big fat juicy tears, La Voix? The monster must be fed! I did like how Michelle pointed out that La Voix’s drag can be dated but it’s precisely that that gives her that charm and edge.
Finally, Rileasa has her talk with Ru and Michelle and I think even she knew she wasn’t going to win the crown? Her interview felt both revelatory and also chill. Like she knows she’s already increased her booking fee and maybe she can win a Versus the World crown instead.
We get to the choreography and I’m so touched that there’s a part of it that’s actually going to be in sign language. And you know what other song has a part that’s in sign language in the choreography?
Stream it on Spotify too!
Ginger Johnson walks into the Werk Room as the queens are preparing for their final performance and just gives that pep talk to push them through this final episode. I didn’t watch season five so I’m taking Ginger at her word here that she’s had a busy year since she won the crown.
The queens finally perform their song and it really is as cheesy as they described it! Very Eurovision, very BBC special episode. The rest of the cast even makes an appearance at the end!
The eliminated queens also get their time on the runway and I feel like Dita made the most splash out of all of them! Some of the other queens came back in outfits that were very them but sometimes being them isn’t the most digestible fashion.
As for the final four, I’m kinda a little disappointed with Kyran’s final outfit? Or maybe the fabric just doesn’t register well on the cameras? It all looked very…bland. Black and bland, other than her hair.
La Voix does fulfill the eleganza brief but is immediately overshadowed by Marmalade. Marmalade really made sure to cement her title as the fashion queen of season six. Rileasa also does a better job of wearing black on the runway but it’s really hard to get out of the long shadow that Marmalde cast with her eleganza outfit.
Ru does the requisite “What would you say to your younger self?” bit and like I’ve said in previous posts, I don’t really like this segment in any iteration. Never did and never will! I liked the conversation in the Werk Room more.
Charra gets crowned Miss Congenialty which feels correct. Marmalade and Rileasa are asked to sashay away, as expected, because the show really has been building up to a Kyran and La Voix confrontation. And when it’s announced that “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen is going to be the lip sync song, I kinda got the feeling that the crown is going to Kyran. It just seems like a Kyran song!
To be fair, I thought it was a pretty even fight until Kyran brought out the illustration board keyboard with guitar written on it. I think that was the moment, if they end up winning the crown in the end.
And they do win! Congratulations Kyran Thrax!
