It’s all about the Philippines today in this edition of Your Week in Books
Philippine National Stand co-exhibitors
The National Book Development Board (NBDB) is calling on all the publishers registered with them to apply as one of the co-exhibitor in the upcoming Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, where the Philippines is the guest of honor.
Publishers who get accepted can nominate two creative representatives to “ttend the fair and meet industry professionals, learn the latest publishing trends, tap new markets, and represent the best of Philippine content on the global stage.” Check out the link in the Facebook post to learn more details.
Severino Reyes Medal 2025
The International Board on Books for Young People Philippines is now accepting applications for Best Picture Book, Best Story Book, and Best Young Adult Book. Judging this year’s entries are Filipino librarians and representatives from the National Library of the Philippines, Philippine Librarians Association, Inc., Philippine Association of School Librarians, Association of Librarians in the Public Sector, Inc., and the National Book Development Board.

2024 National Book Development Board Trust Fund Grantees
Twenty-eight applicant have been selected as the recipients of the National Book Development Board Trust Fund, which provides “funding assistance” so that the selected authors’ manuscripts can be completed. Some of the familiar names in the list include Peace Warriors: On the Trail with Filipino Soldiers author Criselda Yabes and Janus Silang author Edgar Samar.
YA Writing Workshop
The National Book Development Board is also publicizing this workshop for young adult writing set to happen on February 8 next year at the Molave Building in Makati. Registration starts on January 8 and ends on the 31st. I do wish they named who’s conducting the workshop and what their credentials are.
