I’ll be right on track with the rest of the people watching this after this episode!
Po saves his job by appealing to Thame’s own feelings about his group in the previous episode and now this new episode opens with…maybe a product placement? I think this is a car product placement but I’m not sure. We also find out that Po didn’t just say he wanted to get to know Thame the most for the documentary, he meant he wanted to know Thame the most out of work. Well.
Of course, Thame and Po end up running into each other at work and it is awkward. There’s miscommunication between the two of them and Po is also trying to deny that he’s got a crush on Thame. At least Thame isn’t being homophobic about it!
I gotta admit, I am not following this incompetent manager plot point at all. Is this referencing Thai entertainment drama? Why have him around? It’s conflict that isn’t very interesting but is just frustrating. What’s more interesting is the conflict between Thame and his bandmates, although I think it’s written like that because GMMTV is pushing Lykn.
Another interesting thing the show is doing is~exposing~ the fakeness of the idol world. I don’t know if it’s something praiseworthy or just feeding into notions non-idol fans have about it to make themselves feel superior, but it’s interesting to watch! Also, the manufactured closeness also allows for Po to have Thame rest his chin on his hand so there’s that!
The attempt at manufacturing closeness backfires on the management team, because it ends up being a very real moment for Thame when the rest of the band doesn’t show up at an arranged shoot where they give each other gifts to show their closeness. Especially when he brought gifts that actually mean something to the rest of the band and not the ones that management wanted them to bring. Okay I see what they’re doing now.
Po continues his interview with Thame the next day and it’s all going as planned for the first half of the interview but then Po doesn’t follow the script and tells Thame that the documentary is working because he’s following what the company is telling him to do. Po is also working out his emotions about his own break-up on his employers but let’s choose to ignore that for now.
Thanks to Po, Thame manages to tell his members how he really feels, how he’s sorry that he took on the solo project because as it turns out, Mars is a flop. And he doesn’t really want to leave the group, that it’s the company that’s undermining the group and wanting him to pursue a career in Korea. The company manages to convince him that his band members see Mars as a liability and that it would be best for everyone involved if he just pursued a career in Korea.
Po manages to shift Thame’s perspective a little during the interview, and when Thame goes back to the shared dorm he has with the other Mars members he remembers some of the good times they’ve had. It also gives him the motivation he needs to bring the band back together again and he wants Po to help him out.
I’ll be honest: This is kinda looking like some manti fanfiction from Wattpad.
