Halfway through the first season and the show’s already given us a big roadblock that Wilhelm and Simon are going to have to deal with. Let’s get down to watching this episode!
The previous episode gave us a hell of a cliffhanger — Wilhelm is not the crown prince after the death of his brother Erik in an accident. He’s no longer The Spare and now people are going to be looking at who he’s with and who he’s going to be dating.
The episode opens with Wilhelm laying his head on his brother’s casket and it is grim. Simon is understandably worried for him and has been messaging him constantly. And the whole country — including his classmates — are watching his grief. That has got to be a mindfuck. Wilhelm can’t even process his grief on his own, he has to process it in front of everyone.
The Queen is already moving ahead though, saying that Wilhelm should sit in the meetings to know how the monarchy works, while the King is saying Wilhelm should return to Hillerska since it’s a familiar environment to him. The Queen also reminds Wilhelm that he’ll need to have heirs to continue the line of succession, which obviously isn’t going to happen because he likes boys. Wilhelm’s also reminded that there needs to be no more mistakes now and that people will always be comparing him to Erik.
Totally not to minimize Wilhelm’s loss, but it’s not just him that’s having a bad day. Simon’s mother has found out about the private tutoring lessons after she sees the bill from the school, which leads to an argument between her and Simon. Of course, this is going to lead to conflict between Simon and August. Pay up, August!
And speaking of August, we get a sequence of him working out and checking how much fat he’s got on his body. They’re never going to make me like you August, no matter how many shirtless scenes you get. He gets a call from the Queen herself and I’m guessing he’ll be asked to keep an eye on Wilhelm, as if he hasn’t been doing that already. August says it’s time to gather all “Society” members to welcome their new brother. Does this mean they’ll give him that spit concoction again? That was disgusting.
Wilhelm goes back to school and they have this whole thing for him to honor his brother and I fully understand if Wilhelm walks out because I can’t imagine having to look okay about everything when your brother just died. A brother that you liked! After the song from the choir Wilhelm delivers an extemporaneous speech — he doesn’t read the one prepared for him — and promises that he will be a crown prince his family can be proud of.
Simon and Wilhelm have a talk after the ceremony and it’s brutal. Wilhelm tells Simon that he should delete all of their messages and that he can’t do what they do anymore and I get it but also you need to be better at diplomacy or something if you’re going to be the heir to the throne.
Aside from getting dumped unceremoniously, Simon’s dad is asking to meet up as well. Probably to ask for the money back and ask about his missing prescriptions as well. PAY SIMON BACK AUGUST.
Wilhelm gets a bigger room in the dormitory and once he’s alone in it deletes Simon’s number from his phone. Wilhelm, baby, I know you’re going through a lot right now but this isn’t the way to process this. He also proceeds to give Felice the false hope that there’s something there. Baby.
And then we get surprise sex scene? I’m sorry I guess I’ve become a prude in my old age because I was shocked? And between August and Felice too! I sure hope August had protection on because you do not want his babies, Felice! Especially when he’s so insecure! Who gets offended by someone closing their eyes during sex! Felice still sticks with him though and you need a better man in your life! He can’t even pay Simon back! Simon has to force him to sell pills!
Felice definitely needs a better man in her life because she’s a great girl! Despite being embarrassed by Sara in the previous episode, she still wants to remain friends with her and she’s also let go of her crush on Wilhelm. But August is still a dick! Not the good kind of dick! And then he kisses Sara without her consent while he’s looking for Felice! I can’t! How is Sara going to interpret that?
Simon isn’t having a great day either. He gets into an argument with his dad after he tries to pay him for the pills he stole. His dad doesn’t want him using — understandably! — but Simon just throws his dad’s addiction in his face. It’s just poor reactions from both of them.
Later that night Wilhelm is taken to The Society meeting and it literally looks like a Hitler youth gathering. Most of the people are blondes with only Wilhelm, August, and Alexander being the token non-blondes. And they’re working to prevent the extinction of The Society’s noble families? H.I.T.L.E.R. Y.O.U.T.H.
While they’re pissing outside, August tries to ingratiate himself further into Wilhelm’s life. He even admits wanting to be in Wilhelm’s place instead but Wilhelm is too drunk to hear it.
We then see a sequence of Wilhelm being high as a kite on the football field in Simon’s neighborhood and I know it’s meant to showcase all of the turmoil inside him being let out by the drugs and alcohol but I can’t help laughing at it. Sorry, I just find non-violent drunk/high people funny!
Wilhelm also experiences an epiphany on the football field, saying that everything is fake but him liking Simon? That’s the only real thing. I’m wet. Simon comes for him and Wilhelm can’t stop saying that Simon is so beautiful and I don’t blame him!
Simon stays with Wilhelm all night and even gives him a hug when he wakes up in the morning. He even sticks around when Wilhelm asks him to and then they cuddle in bed. Now usually I’d advocate for Simon and say that you shouldn’t let Wilhelm use you like this but being cuddled by a cute boy is nice so who am I to speak on Simon’s decisions, really.
Simon asks if Wilhelm remembers what he told him last night and tells him that he likes him too and again, I can’t blame Wilhelm for being overcome with horniness. They start making out, the clothes come off, and the way Wilhelm just spreads Simon’s legs after taking of his pants? When is this going to happen for me?
But then August comes along and takes a video of it bye I knew this was too good to last.
