I know that I’ve been a little hard on this series as I’ve been watching it, but it’s not like I want to be! I always hope for the best when I watch something, but so far this really hasn’t been hitting the spot for me. But I hope things turns around soon!
When we left Thame and Po at the end of the last episode, the two of them just spent the whole night getting to know each other better but not all the way better. As this new episode starts, the two of them are still talking and Po is sharing how he crosses the road because apparently he’s not very good at it. Thame wants Po to be careful and even offers to cross the street with him if ever there’s a chance.
The next day, Po is still thinking about that conversation as he’s crossing the road and the show does a nice fake out making it seem like he’s crossing the road with Thame but then boom it’s actually Jun. Jun teases him at the office and tells him that Thame doesn’t like men. Po shoots back that if Thame doesn’t feel anything then why’d they stay up all night talking on the phone? Jun counters that when they were trainees, they’d talk on the phone all night multiple times so that doesn’t really mean anything. Why is Jun so opposed to this anyway?
Anyways, Thame calls Po’s phone but it’s Jun who answers and he’s a little miffed. He wants the two of them to check if Nano’s at the company and after the call he’s still a little miffed that he can’t go to the company and Pepper calls him out for it because Thame hasn’t liked going to the company for some time now. Pepper’s also curious about who Thame was sweet talking to on the phone the night before and asks him if he’s at the talking stage with someone. Okay, I gotta admit that this show is much better when it focuses on the relationship brewing between Thame and Po.
Jun’s scheming ends with the boys going on a camping trip as part of a content partnership with a brand and Jun also uses it as an opportunity to needle Po about whether or not Thame likes him back. Po reasons that it’s because Thame is getting jealous of all the time Po and Jun are spending together and I agree with him but Jun continues to be a cockblocker. Stop being a cockblocker, Jun!
They arrive at the camping site and it turns out that the product they’re partnering with is a chicken essence brand and the brand wants them to show how brainy they are by having them set up camp by themselves. It’s been so long since I’ve heard about chicken essence; it was all the rage when I was growing up.
Anyways, Nano golden maknae’s and sets up the whole campsite himself and they get to shoot the essence of chicken thing. I never really had those growing up so I don’t know what they taste like. But Nano’s golden maknae-ing doesn’t just end with the setting up camp. He also ends up cooking the food that they’re going to eat as well.
Despite being good at all of that, it seems like Nano doesn’t want to be an idol anymore. I’m not really clear how looking at his Instagram account led Dylan to this conclusion but whatever. Po says he needs time alone with Nano to talk to him but their plan to do this fails miserably because Nano is just too golden maknae-ish. But it does make Thame increasingly more jealous because the way things turn out, it’s Jun spending alone time with Po.
When Po finally gets to interview Nano, we find out that he felt the same way when he was heartbroken and unemployed as Nano does now. It’s not enough to convince Nano though, and I have to give props to the script here because Nano’s fears as a young person who’s dedicated himself to just this one thing and seeing it crumble right before his eyes is completely understandable. Po at least convinces him to hear the group out. And you know what, I unironically like that their main argument is that we’re all losers but at least we’re going to be losers together.
Back at the dorm, Jun continues his misguided attempt to show Po that Thame isn’t interested in him. While Thame sulks outside, Pepper is the one to make him confront his feelings for Po. I’m not quite getting Pepper’s logic, but I am blaming this one the subtitles. If a Thai person is reading this, does Pepper’s logic make sense in the original language?
Anyways, Pepper tells Thame what he needs to do to find out if he likes Po or not and I gotta say I screamed out loud when he helped Po cross the street. And then the hug? I think we’re starting to cook with gas now!
