This show has been so fun to watch that I kinda wish I heard about it beforehand and watched it along with the rest of the world as it premiered new episodes on Netflix? Oh well, will just have to be content watching it now!
We saw Shiba slowly falling into what may be Haruto’s trap in the previous episode, while Kotaro is realizing that Shiba’s new assistant Haruto is iinvolved in the real estate scam case he’s handling. At the start of this episode, Shiba is hesitant to respond to Haruto’s advances, but Haruto says he’s willing to wait.
As they go to sleep inside the tent, Haruto puts his arms around Shiba and tells him that his scent is relaxing. He also tells Shiba that he’s happy that the two of them are sleeping together and that deefinitely got Shiba bricked up.
The next day, Shiba consults the only other homosexual in his life — his colleague Kotaro. He’s doing the “my friend was asked out on a date” ruse and when Kotaro tells Shiba that his “friend” may already be in love Shiba chokes on his drink.
Back at home, Haruto has stuff out for Halloween — apparently it’s Halloween — and he wants the two of them to make jack-o’-lanterns. Shiba is hesitant at first, but when Haruto tells him that he’s a handsome lawyer who needs a handsome space complete with seasonal decor, he warms up to the idea.
The jack-o’-lanterns also provide a perfect opportunity for the two of them to do some Ghost-type skinship, since Shiba needs some guidance as to how to properly make one. It’s that pottery scene except with pumpkins and gay!
This time around, Shiba and Haruto are tackling a case involving a corporate whistleblower named Maiko whose allegations “could affect all of Japan’s energy policies.” I mean, if it’s for the better, why stop her from exposing misconduct? But they’re talking on the case and Haruto says he’ll have to make contact with the “beautiful” whistleblower and Shiba’s mind gets ahead of him and jumps right into Haruto flirting with Maiko and carving pumpkins with her and everything. It’s cute!
Since Maiko is known as The Cyborg, Shiba convinces himself that she won’t fall for Haruto’s tricks. But Haruto is an experienced con man and by the third day of “meeting” her he’s already set a private tennis coaching session to get some information out of her. But even before that, he’s already followed her around and gotten photos of her with what looks to be an office colleague begging her for…something.
And that’s not all that Haruto’s been doing. He’s also decorated Shiba’s garden for Halloween and Shiba actually cracks a smile. Oh he’s falling in love, even if he denies it to his cacti. He can deny it all he wants but when he feels twinges of jealousy at Haruto’s tennis date with Maiko the audience knows what’s up. And when Haruto proceeds to have dinner with Maiko and Shiba drops the phone? Oh honey. HONEY.
Shiba heads to the chicken hot pot restaurant where Haruto and Maiko have dinner because he “wanted to hear the information…as soon as possible” but instead sees Haruto get into a cab with Maiko after Maiko sidles up to Haruto and asks him to be even “kinder” to her. Shiba looks devastated and realizes that he’s fallen in love with Haruto. Damn.
