Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 Episode 2

I know, I know I am so late. But I had a really busy week and I’m only getting to watch this now!

The group one queens performed and got rated in the previous episode and of course, top two queens Jewels Sparkles and Suzie Toot feel great about how all of that turned out. Also completely understandable is Acacia Forgot not being happy right now and thinking of how to get her lick back now that it’s going to be her turn to rate the week two queens. I also live for Lexi Love wondering if these queens have ever even voted before since they’re so young.

The day after, the partnerships between the queens are becoming more clear. Top two queens Jewels and Suzie obviously get along, and Lana and Arrietty already have their thing going. Another alliance that we are introduced to in this episode is Kori and Lydia Butthole Collins, with Kori even hinting that it could be a relationship.

After hearing Acacia’s plan to vote strategically, Lawrence Chaney enters the Werk Room to tell the queens that they’re going to have to show their butts for this week’s runway theme. Surprising to me is Lucky being a queen who doesn’t usually show her butt.

Someone who may not have any trouble seeing Lucky’s butt is Arrietty, because Lucky thinks there’s an artsy-fartsy spark between them. Is this the most sparks to fly in a Drag Race season? Feels like it! I also loved how Jewels asked the bunk preferences of the two and how they answered because I can just imagine straight people going what?

We find out that Lexi Love will have roller skating as her talent and I don’t know who said it but the shady 80s rollerskating statement was funny and hurtful at the same time to me, an eldritch creature. And the way everyone is acting like Lexi has advanced osteoporosis or something? I’M OLDER THAN LEXI BY A LOT. WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF ME?

Meanwhile, Acacia is very clumsily trying to figure out who she is going to lip sync with at the end of the episode. Or maybe it just looks clumsy to me because I’m watching it on television and I wasn’t actually there? Either way, Hormona Lisa catches on immediately so I think it might be a little clumsy.

I also like that they tell Onya Nerve’s story as an — and this is weird to say because she’s young — older person getting into the queer community. I think this may be one of the few times a situation like hers has been featured on the main Drag Race? At least as far as I can remember. Because of what they do, a lot of these queens really are outed and become part of the community at an early age so it’s nice to hear about someone who took a little longer.

The Werk Room talk also begins to paint Hormona Lisa in a bad light. The queens, at the very least, think she’s a cunt, so we’re going to have to wait and see if she become the villain of the season. Honestly, she’s giving the type of queen that Ru usually favors so she may just get a positive edit down the line.

The runway starts and Sam Star is up first and…it’s not bad but I kinda expected more? Especially from Trinity the Tuck’s daughter? I liked Onya Nerve’s outfit but I kinda wanted boobs to fill up the top? Again, I am speaking as someone who isn’t very knowledgeable about fashion so I am going with ~vibes~.

Now Crystal Envy’s outfit doesn’t look like much but I love the reference, I love the comedy of it, and I love how she sold it. And then Kori walks in with literally Monet X Change’s Werq the World costume. AND SPEAKING OF MONET X CHANGE.

Watch the latest season of Dungeons and Drag Queens! It’s so fun!

I thought Lexi Love’s outfit was okay but I kinda wanted to see her face? And then Hormona Lisa follows her with a Marie Antoinette look which I really don’t mind but there have been so many queens who have done it so much better. Jesus, you’re following Nymphia Wind from last season!

Lana’s look? Delicious. Her skin? My god. While Acacia Forgot’s outfit isn’t as memorable, I do like that she represented for all the hairy asses out there. I support you! Arrietty and Jewels walk out in good outfits as well — Arrietty’s was better — while Joella does yet another Marie Antoinette look. See, unlike Michelle I don’t mind a Marie Antoinette look but you got to make sure you’re doing it better than the ones before and this just isn’t it.

Lucky Starzzz and Lydia Butthole Collins, thankfully, walk the runway in what I think are interesting looks and Suzie…I mean I get it but I was kinda whelmed as well. Oh well.

We finally get to the the talent show and Sam Star is up next and to be honest I liked Acacia Forgot’s number more? But I’m not from the American South or even America so what do I know if that’s real country or not. And Sam’s performance looks even worse since it’s followed by Onya Nerve’s, which was so fun. I’d stream it! And so should you!

Crystal Envy’s is okay but I gotta admit I liked Onya Nerve’s performance better! We then get Hormona Lisa’s stand-up act and I found some of it funny? But maybe it didn’t really land in the room itself because the queens are stone-faced. None of them are laughing.

Kori and Lana’s acts are great but at the same time what you would expect, if that makes sense? It wasn’t exciting for me as a viewer because it’s what you expect a drag queen to do. Which doesn’t necessarily mean that the performance was bad because it wasn’t! And this thought of mine was just validated by Lexi Love’s performance because if she did it without rollerskates I would think the same thing but since she brought a new element into it I was really entertained!

During the panel discussion I’m so happy that they liked Onya Nerve’s performance. I raised my eyebrows at them liking Sam’s performance but maybe it just looked and sounded better in the room itself than on television? They also loved Lexi Love which is also great!

After the voting, it’s Crystal Envy and Lexi Love who end up in the top and I guess I’m okay with that since Lexi is at the top but I kinda wish Onya Nerve was higher. I really liked her number! Anyways, Lexi and Crystal duke it out to Doechii’s “Alter Ego” and I really think Lexi crushed it! And so did Ru apparently because she picks her as the winner!

Meanwhile, it’s Hormona and Acacia in the bottom two. Even before Acacia pulls that makeup brush out of her literal ass I think she was already ahead of Hormona in the lip sync but that brush really did ensure her win.

Hormona loses the lip sync BUT we get the Badonka Dunk reveal and wouldn’t you know it, Hormona picks the right lever to dunk Michelle into the tank. She really will get a Ru-demption edit down the line, I’m telling you right now.
