Gonna be honest with all of you, the show started to lose me with the previous episode. Maybe because I watched it while I had a nasty cold and wasn’t feeling overall great or maybe it just wasn’t that good. Either way, let’s hope this new episode makes up for it!
With Sekhmet’s body now with Erszebet, this episode no longer has to start with a flashback. We’re now immediately in the present, with Juste and Mizrak helping Maria get back to her old self. And they succeed! Maria manages to hold back the dark within her and get back to the light.
Back in Paris, Annette, Richter, and Alucard are working with Robespierre and I guess what seemed off to me about them working with him in the previous episode is the fact that he also devolves into craziness further down the French Revolution. You’d think Alucard with his long life would realize this like he’s told Annette and Richter in previous episodes but oh well.
While the mortals are preparing to fight Erzsebet’s armies, Annette heads off into the spirit world to destroy Sekhmet’s spirit there, a realization she had at the end of the last episode. Getting lost in the spirit world might mean she never wakes up again, but Richter assures her that he and Alucard will be waiting for her in the physical world.
In the spirit world, Annette gets some resolution with her mother, who is proud of what she’s become in the physical world. She also gets directed to Ogun to learn more about Sekhmet and what they need to do to defeat her. We find out that there really is a third soul, Sekhmet’s good side. After all, she is the goddess of healing aside from being the goddess of war. I also like how Ogun explained that it’s the followers of the deities that have corrupted them, in much the same way that the Abbot did that for his own Catholic religion. It’s a thread they’re continuing or building on from the first Castlevania series.
Annette finally meets Sekhmet, who isn’t all that into intervening at first since she hasn’t had the best experience with humanity but maybe makes an exception for Annette seeing how brave she is. And when Annette reemerges in the physical world, it’s with Sekhmet in possession of her body. It’s going to be goddess against goddess in the final two episodes, I guess! Exciting!
